Welcome to MetaBattle[edit]

Hey Tyroxin!

First Steps:

  • Be sure to check out the tutorial. Submitting the first edit/create with any external links results in an automatic ban. Instructions are in the tutorial under "creating an article").
  • Sign your comments on Discussion pages with 4 tildes ("~~~~") or use the "signature" button found on the toolbar. It will automatically convert this into a timestamp with your name. (You can indent paragraphs/replies with the ":" colon character).
  • If you have any questions feel free to respond here or add a new topic on the community portal.
  • All users are encouraged to submit valid ratings for builds in testing, good, great, and meta.

Common Mistakes:

  • Try to make a build that has purpose. Explain it's specific purpose and why it's better than other builds. If it's not, re-consider whether it should be written.
  • Make sure the build you want to write is significantly different than other builds already posted. Otherwise leave a comment with the proposed changes on the already existing build's page!

Thanks for joining and welcome to the MetaBattle team!

About templates[edit]

I see you wanted to use {{Item tooltip}}, but it didn't quite work. That's Item tooltip is a semantic template that pulls data from the upgrade item page (rune, sigil, gemstone, jewel pages). For instance, if you call {{Item tooltip|Superior Rune of Strength}} it displays

Superior Rune of Strength Superior Rune of Strength
Superior Rune of Strength.pngSuperior Rune of Strength
(1): +25 Power(2): +10% Might Duration(3): +50 Power(4): +15% Might Duration; 25% chance when struck to gain might for 5 seconds. (Cooldown: 5 seconds)(5): +100 Power(6): +20% Might Duration; +5% damage while under the effects of might.

. The same tooltip will fail if you call for Superior Rune of Nightmare. This is because the page that holds the data for Superior Rune of Nightmare hasn't been created yet. You can create it by starting the page preffixed with "Item:". Like this: Superior Rune of Nightmare. There is a specific semantic template that stores data about the rune, it's called {{Item info}}. You can check it, or copy the contents from Superior Rune of Strength and paste in the Superior Rune of Nightmare page, adjusting as needed. Once you save it, hit the Actions dropdown and click "Refresh". Once that's done the semantic tooltip for Superior Rune of Nightmare will be available throughout the whole wiki, and any time you call {{Item tooltip|Superior Rune of Nightmare}} it will display the tooltip correctly. The same holds true for sigils, gemstones, and jewels. :) --LordShuckle (talk) 13:48, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Since Runes and Sigils are already present in Template:Rune/Rune of the Whatever, those would be duplicates. Are there plans to switch to one of both systems? --Tyroxin (talk) 22:47, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
Yes. Ideally we'll start using semantic templates from now on. There has been an exhausting works on skills and traits department already, items follow next. I've also created tiny templates that are faster to load but don't provide tooltips, they're intended to replace duplicated tooltips throughout a build guide as a way to lessen the processing required and improve readability. --LordShuckle (talk) 01:18, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Tooltips[edit]

Hi stop. You're editing the old tooltip templates, those are no longer being used. :P --Revenant tango icon 200px.pngHanz (talk) 08:33, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Well, which are the outdated ones? I'd guess Fire Grab because they are indeed used nowhere. Shouldn't we/someone remove them? --Tyroxin (talk) 14:58, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
They one you linked is the curent one we're using. Check the URL, "Skill:<something>" is the right one, and "Template:Skill/<something>" is the one that shouldn't be touched. --Revenant tango icon 200px.pngHanz (talk) 16:40, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Category templates[edit]

o/ Ty for updating some of the older templates, but don't change basic to archived. Basic = build was rated bad after being posted or got moved because it was abandoned by the author, while Archived = used to be decent but no longer is (or lost opularity). Let's not mix the 2. --Revenant tango icon 200px.pngHanz (talk) 15:28, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Wouldn't it be better to keep the old rating altogether and move the archived status to another parameter "archived=y"? That way we could move outdated builds from the basic section without having to fear a mixup in the archive. The other radical solution would be to delete "archived" basic builds.--Tyroxin (talk) 15:32, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
A good old fashioned purge of basic builds is indeed on the table :P --Revenant tango icon 200px.pngHanz (talk) 15:39, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
