==Overview==

==Overview==
Due to the incredible range of utility and active defense that Chrono can bring, it remains a good choice of tank and boon support in raids.
+
This is a very basic guardian build which is F2P/Core accessible and can handle most open world content.

However, many players will lean so hard into the defensive/utility aspects that they end up dealing no damage. If you find yourself DPS-racing a healmech, you might as well be a healer yourself!

Due to the difficulty providing key defensive boons such as {{tooltip|Regeneration}} and {{tooltip|Protection}}, this build may struggle to be a solo healer on some encounters but is a great choice for secondary healer.

Chronomancer provides '''EITHER''' 100% {{tooltip|Quickness}} uptime or 100% {{Tooltip|Alacrity}} uptime as well as {{tooltip|Fury}} and 25 {{tooltip|Might}}. Both variants can dedicate multiple slots for utility skills, though the {{tooltip|Quickness}} is slightly more flexible as its boons come from shatters rather than wells. On the other hand, {{Tooltip|Alacrity}} Chronomancer is one of the few builds that can provide its key boons at long-range, making it an excellent choice on encounters that require it to be a long way from the stack.

Due to the sheer range of options available, there is no "default" build for heal chrono, but rather a framework into which you can slot what you want for each encounter.

===Weapon Variants===

===Weapon Variants===
'''Sceptre/Shield''' Should be considered mandatory, but the other set can be what you like:
+
* Scepter - ranged option
* '''Greatsword''' (coupled with the '''Domination''' traitline) provides some burst healing and boon rip.
+
* Staff - good for event farming with a group
* '''Staff''' can provide similar burst healing to '''Greatsword''' without the need to trait into '''Domination'''. It can also be used to improve personal {{tooltip|Regeneration}} uptime and provide some random extra boons via {{skill|Chaos Storm}}. Be aware that you should often NOT use {{skill|Phase Retreat}} if tanking as you want the boss to remain still rather than chase you.

* Offhand '''Focus''' can be taken if you need {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull adds into the boss.

===Skill Variants===

===Skill Variants===
 +
====Healing Skills====
 +
* {{Skill|Shelter}} - defensive option. You can cancel the animation but keep the block by stowing your weapon during the cast. However, you won't receive any healing if you do this.

'''Healing'''

* {{skill|Well of Eternity}} is a massive group heal that can be boosted even further if using {{trait|All's Well That Ends Well}}.

* {{skill|Mantra of Recovery}} provides more consistent healing, as well as being able to trigger {{trait|Mender's Purity}} frequently. Crucially, as the charges are instant cast it can be used to provide an AoE condi cleanse to counter {{tooltip|Fear}} or {{tooltip|Taunt}}.

* {{skill|Mirror}} doesn't provide any group healing, but does offer a short projectile reflect, and if running '''Chaos''' with {{trait|Master of Manipulation}} it can also be used to provide AoE {{tooltip|Aegis}}.

* {{skill|Healing Seed}} (Sylvari only) is the only way you have to reliable provide {{tooltip|Regeneration}} to allies, which will be very helpful if you're the only healer.

'''Utility'''

{{skill|Well of Action}} provides ~12 average {{tooltip|Might}} to your subgroup. Combined with {{skill|Tides of Time}}, this is sufficient to provide over 20 average {{tooltip|Might}}. {{skill|Mantra of Pain}} is taken as standard to fill in any gaps, but can be swapped out if you have other sources of {{tooltip|Might}} in the group.

'''Quickness variant''': Only shatters are needed for {{tooltip|Quickness}} so you can bring any utility skills you need.

'''Alacrity variant''': You need 2 wells (other than {{skill|Gravity Well}}) to maintain {{tooltip|Alacrity}}, otherwise you can bring whatever you need.

* CC options:

** {{skill|Well of Senility}} does decent CC and also removes boons.

** {{Skill|Mantra of Distraction}} is not as strong as {{skill|Well of Senility}} but recharges on a much shorter cooldown, which may make it better on encounters that require very frequent CC. When charging the mantra, it also reduces the cooldown on {{skill|Time Sink}}.

** {{Skill|Signet of Domination}} has a long cooldown, but is instant cast and could be taken along with the above if you really want to go overboard on CC.

* {{tooltip|Aegis}}:

** {{skill|Blink}} if running '''Chaos''' with {{trait|Master of Manipulation}} - short cooldown and instant cast, but be aware that the {{tooltip|Aegis}} triggers at the location you activate the skill, not where you end up.

** {{Skill|Well of Precognition}} can be used less frequently, but the duration of the {{tooltip|Aegis}} is longer, which may be useful if you have concerns about your timing.

** If running {{trait|Blurred Inscriptions}}, any signet will also provide {{tooltip|Aegis}}.

* {{Skill|Feedback}} provides a long-duration reflect.

* {{Skill|Mantra of Concentration}} provides Stability to your group.

* {{Skill|Portal Entre}} if you need a portal.

* {{Skill|Mimic}} allows you to get a second use out of a key skill if you'll need it more often than the cooldown. Often used together with {{Skill|Portal Entre}}.

'''Elite'''

* {{Skill|Time Warp}} is not required to maintain quickness, but it provides an easy way to start fights with quickness and can be used to cover up any mistakes in the rotation.

* {{Skill|Gravity Well}} should be used if an encounter requires heavy CC, and it can also be used to pad {{tooltip|Alacrity}} if running that variant.

* {{Skill|Signet of Humility}} bigger and faster CC than {{Skill|Gravity Well}} but on a longer cooldown, which may be more suitable for some encounters.

 +
====Utility Skills====
 +
* {{Skill|Hallowed Ground}} - grants more Resolution for boss fights where you can't proc {{Trait|Renewed Justice}} much.
 +
* {{Skill|Hammer of Wisdom}} - more crowd control.
 +
* {{Skill|Smite Condition}} - if you need condition cleanse.
 +
* {{Skill|Wall of Reflection}} - if you need to reflect projectiles.
 +
* {{Skill|Shield of the Avenger}} - alternative projectile defense option.
 +
* {{Skill|"Advance!"}} - long-lasting swiftness while running.

===Trait Variants===
+
===Standard Equipment===
* {{trait|Warden's Feedback}} can be taken if running '''Focus''' and the reflect will be valuable.
+
This set uses similar gear to [[Build:Dragonhunter_-_Power_DPS]], making it a highly versatile setup for general PVE that performs very well in both open world and endgame PVE.
* {{trait|Blurred Inscriptions}} gives you greater access to Distortion and {{tooltip|Aegis}}, but you lose your main source of healing.

** If taking this, you can constantly spam {{skill|Mantra of Pain}} to trigger {{trait|Restorative Mantras}} as your sustained healing instead.

* {{Trait|Delayed Reactions}} - if not bringing any wells, you can slightly increase your CC with this.

===Specialization Variants===

<big>'''Chaos'''</big><br>

Chaos offers more personal survivability, higher boon duration, and perhaps most usefully {{trait|Master of Manipulation}}.

{{Specialization|Chaos|bot|mid|top|variant = y}}

* You could bring {{trait|Bountiful Disillusionment}} to give yourself more {{tooltip|Stability}}.

<big>'''Domination'''</big><br>

With {{trait|Bountiful Blades}} '''Greatsword''' has the highest illusion generation of any weapon and so can be used to rapidly trigger {{trait|Illusionary Inspiration}} for burst healing on demand. You should be able to trigger this trait 11 times in a single weapon swap.

==Usage==

==Usage==
As a healer, you don't really have a fixed rotation beyond using certain skills off cooldown, but consider the following guidelines.
+
===Damage===

+
* Thanks to the Virtues traitline, you should be spamming {{Skill|Virtue of Justice}} as often as possible. Since it resets on kill, you can use it often for a significant damage boost.

+
* Your main damage skills are {{Skill|Symbol of Wrath}}, {{Skill|Whirling Wrath}}, {{Skill|Zealot's Defense}}, {{Skill|Ray of Judgment}}, {{Skill|Symbol of Blades}}, and {{Skill|Sword of Justice}}. Swap between your weapons using these skills whenever possible, and fill with autoattacks.
===Quickness===
+
** Never interrupt your autoattack chain as all the damage is loaded in the last hit.
Quickness provision comes from {{skill|Tides of Time}} and {{trait|Seize the Moment}} so frequent clone generation and shattering is key. Open with your offset phantasm, then {{skill|Echo of Memory}} for some opening clones for {{skill|Continuum Split}}. Within CS spam shatters and use {{skill|Well of Action}}, {{skill|Tides of Time}} and/or {{skill|Time Warp}} to give yourself a large buffer of {{tooltip|Quickness}}.
+
* {{Tooltip|Resolution}} is a massive damage boost so you should try to have it up as much as possible. Your main Resolution sources are {{Skill|Virtue of Justice}}, {{Skill|Symbol of Wrath}}, {{Trait|Healer's Resolution}}, and {{Skill|"Stand Your Ground!"}}

+
** {{Skill|Virtue of Justice}} resets off every kill thanks to {{Trait|Renewed Justice}}.

+
** In long fights where you can't reset {{Skill|Virtue of Justice}} you can consider bringing {{Skill|Hallowed Ground}} and traiting {{Trait|Master of Consecrations}}.
Outside of CS, autoattack on sceptre to generate clones and use {{skill|Split Second}} and {{skill|Rewinder}} as soon as you have three clones.
+
* If you want more stacks of might; Consider using {{Trait|Zealous Scepter}} instead of {{Trait|Fiery Wrath}}. Choosing Either of them will not cost you any loss of damage.

+
* Try to fight enemies in your symbols to get the stacking damage buff from {{Trait|Symbolic Avenger}}.
Use {{skill|Well of Action}} and {{skill|Tides of Time}} off cooldown for {{tooltip|Might}} and {{tooltip|Quickness}}.
+
* If using {{Trait|Unscathed Contender}}, try not to get hit

If you have {{skill|Time Warp}}, you can use it should you notice {{tooltip|Quickness}} dropping.

===Alacrity===

Thanks to {{trait|Stretched Time}}, {{skill|Tides of Time}} and all your wells generate {{tooltip|Alacrity}}. Open in much the same way as the quickness variant.

Outside of CS, autoattack on sceptre for healing and use your chosen wells off cooldown.

===Greatsword Burst===

If using a '''Greatsword''' and '''Domination''', you can spam illusions to trigger {{trait|Illusionary Inspiration}} using a rotation very similar to the DPS one:

# {{Tooltip|Weapon Swap}}

# {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}}

# {{Skill|Mirror Blade}}

# Autoattack and use {{Skill|Mirror Blade}} when it comes off cooldown

# {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}}

# {{Skill|Mirror Blade}}

# {{Tooltip|Weapon Swap}}

===Healing===

You have two options for sustained healing:

* {{trait|Illusionary Inspiration}} heals in an AoE every time an illusion is generated. Phantasms will trigger this trait twice (once when they appear, and again then they become clones).

* {{trait|Restorative Mantras}} provides a moderate AoE heal every time you charge a mantra. {{skill|Mantra of Pain}} has practically no cooldown after its charges are expended so you can spam it constantly for healing.

Both of these options provide roughly equivalent healing per second, and due to the downtime on {{skill|Mantra of Pain}} from having to expend charges, you can get in a full auto chain on sceptre. However, having to constantly activate {{skill|Mantra of Pain}} will be quite awkward and the {{tooltip|Quickness}} build needs consistent clone generation, so relying on sceptre autos is better in practise, leaving {{skill|Mantra of Pain}} uncharged in case extra healing or {{tooltip|Might}} is required.

If playing with {{trait|All's Well That Ends Well}}, you will have regular healing from your wells. If you don't need it for {{tooltip|Alacrity}}, you can save {{Skill|Well of Eternity}} for an emergency as it has an inherent heal on the final pulse as well as triggering the trait.

 +
===Defense===
 +
* {{Skill|Shield of Wrath}} is a powerful defensive skill.
 +
* {{Skill|Virtue of Justice}}, {{Skill|Leap of Faith}}, and {{Skill|Symbol of Blades}} blind enemies.
 +
* {{Skill|Zealot's Defense}}, {{Skill|Wall of Reflection}} and {{Skill|Shield of the Avenger}} can be used against projectiles.
 +
* Activating {{Skill|Virtue of Courage}} gives aegis, protection, Resolution, stability, and a stun break.
 +
* You can run {{Skill|Shelter}} for more active defense.
 +
* {{Skill|Renewed Focus}} is a 3-second invulnerability skill that also refreshes {{Skill|Virtue of Resolve}} and {{Skill|Virtue of Courage}}.
 +
* Remember to always dodge and sidestep attacks if possible. Don't get hit by anything you can move out of.

===Tanking===
+
===Sustain===
You have many options to deal with incoming damage. Aside from your inherent healing you have the following:
+
* This build doesn't have much sustained healing, so avoiding damage is extremely important in long fights.
* {{skill|Illusionary Counter}} - a two second channeled that blocks an attack and causes you to evade afterwards. Also generates two clones so you are immediately healed via {{trait|Illusionary Inspiration}}. The cooldown is very short so you can use it liberally even if you're not tanking.
+
* Use {{Skill|Leap of Faith}} to heal yourself for each enemy you hit.
* {{skill|Echo of Memory}} - A lengthy channeled block that will provide AoE {{tooltip|Protection}} after use, as well as triggering {{skill|Illusionary Counter}} twice from the phantasm. If you block an attack, it flips to {{skill|Deja Vu}} for 10 seconds, allowing you to repeat the skill.
+
* When at extremely low health, activate {{Skill|Litany of Wrath}}, then use {{Skill|Whirling Wrath}} for an immense amount of self-healing.
* {{skill|Distortion}} - Up to four seconds of invulnerability with three clones, allowing you to completely ignore the majority of attacks. Activating it also provides {{tooltip|Aegis}} in an AoE.
+
* You can activate {{Skill|Virtue of Resolve}} for an emergency heal and condition cleanse.
* {{skill|Well of Precognition}} - three pulses of {{tooltip|Aegis}} in an AoE and personal {{tooltip|Stability}}, which is enough to prevent a lot of incoming damage.
+
* For a big condition cleanse, use {{Skill|Shield of Wrath}} while in a light field.

===Continuum Split===

Aside from providing an opening buffer of boons, you can use {{skill|Continuum Split}} to get extra uses out of skills, either for the utility or for healing.

===Shatter Usage===

* {{Skill|Split Second}} is your primary shatter and does by far the most damage. As you practice this build, you will always have 3 clones ready for it, so you're going to be using if off cooldown.

* {{Skill|Rewinder}} should only be cast in the greatsword set shortly after {{Skill|Split Second}}, because the greatsword loop rotation generates enough clones to have 3 ready for the next Split Second.

* {{Skill|Time Sink}} should be saved for emergencies to provide CC or cover quickness gaps.

* Neither of your shatters line up perfectly in your loop, so they will drift, but you should be using {{Skill|Split Second}} at ''least'' once on each weapon set.

===Crowd Control===

===Crowd Control===
Always have:
+
* {{Skill|Binding Blade}}
* {{Skill|Time Sink}} - {{tooltip|Daze}}. Even on the {{tooltip|Quickness}} build you shouldn't need to use this for boons, and so can save it for CC.
+
* {{Skill|Hammer of Wisdom}}
* {{Skill|Tides of Time}} - {{tooltip|Stun}}
+
* {{Skill|Bane Signet}} (as a last resort)

On off-set:

* {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} {{to}} {{Skill|Into the Void}} - {{tooltip|Pull}} (focus only)

* {{Skill|Illusionary Wave}} - {{tooltip|Knockback}} (greatsword only)

* {{skill|Chaos Storm}} - {{tooltip|Daze}} (staff only)

Optional utility:

* {{skill|Well of Senility}}

* {{Skill|Mantra of Distraction}}

* {{Skill|Signet of Domination}}

* {{Skill|Gravity Well}}

* {{Skill|Signet of Humility}}

==Encounter Specific Tips==

===Spirit Vale===

{{Collapse start|Vale Guardian}}

* If tanking, consider taking extra toughness as the boss's autoattacks hit fairly hard.

* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for the breakbars.

* Maintain a sword clone in the split phase to help with boon removal.

* Use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to help with seeker control.

* Save {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} to evade through blue AOEs while keeping up DPS.

* Save {{Skill|Distortion}} to negate the damage of a Green in high preasure situations. If it's really needed, take Inspiration with {{Trait|Blurred Inscriptions}} and {{Skill|Signet of Inspiration}} to negate the damage of all Greens.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Ghost events}}

* Feel free to bring {{Skill|Feedback}} for some reflects. {{Skill|Blink}} and {{Skill|Portal Entre}} can be used for more mobility.

* Abuse the adrenal mushrooms to reset your {{Skill|Blink}} and {{Skill|Portal Entre}}.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Gorseval the Multifarious}}

* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for the breakbars.

* You can use your signets (if you're using {{Trait|Blurred Inscriptions}}) to {{tooltip|Aegis}} Gorseval's knockback or the black zones during the CC phase.

* You can use {{Skill|Illusionary Leap}} and {{Skill|Swap}} to immobilize Charged Souls.

* Use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull the adds. The pull works best if you place the curtain just behind his hitbox.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Sabetha the Saboteur}}

* Bring {{Skill|Time Warp}} as there is only one breakbar which your teammates can easily cover.

* Use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull the bandit adds for easier cleaving. You can do this when Sabetha starts her flamewall.

* Be careful of teleporting into flamewalls with {{Skill|Continuum Shift}}. You might have to abort CS early or delay it to avoid this.

* You might need to abort Continuum Split if you have to throw a bomb.

{{Collapse end}}

===Salvation Pass===

{{Collapse start|Slothasor}}

* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for the breakbars.

* Use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull some slublings but always make sure you don't pull your friendly slubling.

* You can use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} without the pull (or delay the pull) to provide more projectile defense.

* If you are using {{Skill|Feedback}} keep in mind where your group will stand in the next few seconds. When you're about to move don't place it on your current position.

* {{Skill|Distortion}} can be used to destroy the projectiles from the unblockable shake attack by jumping inside the boss when it shakes like a wet dog.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Bandit Trio}}

* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for add control.

* Use focus to pull mobs together.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Matthias Gabrel}}

* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} as failing to CC will result in a squad member's death.

* Be careful with your reflects! You should only use {{Skill|Feedback}} to break Bloodstone Shield. If you reflect his slam attack Matthias will get a damage buff for each projectile you reflected.

** Also be careful with {{Skill|Tides of Time}} as this skill will eat the shards needed to break Bloodstone Shield.

{{Collapse end}}

===Stronghold of the Faithful===

{{Collapse start|Siege the Stronghold (Escort)}}

* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for add control.

* The most popular strat for this encounter is "all up" or "insta cap", where one chronomancer solos the cave, tanks the tower mobs, and uses {{Skill|Portal Entre}} to taxi the group up to every tower. This lets you effectively have 9 people on both the main path and the towers. If you are filling this role consider running extra toughness to make it easier to survive the tower mobs on your own.

** If your group is fast you might need to {{Skill|Mimic}} your {{Skill|Portal Entre}}, or ask another mesmer to bring {{Skill|Portal Entre}} and help you port the 4th tower.

** If your team is okay with you not giving quickness in order to make sure you can reliably solo the skip part, you can bring {{Skill|Blink}} and {{Skill|Mass Invisibility}}.

* Use focus to pull mobs together.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Keep Construct}}

* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for the breakbars.

* Make sure to have {{tooltip|Quickness}} ready for the burn phase.

* Use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to help pull the core through the rifts. Coordinate with other players on who is going to pull and when.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Xera}}

* If tanking, consider running extra toughness as there is a lot of random damage on this fight and your healer will have their hands full.

* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for the breakbars.

* {{Skill|Well of Eternity}} can be useful for condition cleanse and {{Rune|Superior Rune of the Scholar}} uptime.

* Use your {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull adds into the boss.

* You can use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull orbs. Make sure to pull the last orb to make sure you're not pulling more than one orb.

* If you're tanking, make sure to keep Xera facing away from your group as her Blurred Frenzy will deal massive damage to your DPS. You can use {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} or {{Skill|Echo of Memory}} to protect yourself from the attack while staying in place.

===Bastion of the Penitent===

{{Collapse start|Cairn the Indomitable}}

* Bring {{Skill|Time Warp}} as there are no breakbars here.

* You can use {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} to evade through red AOEs while keeping up DPS.

* If doing greens, you should delay your {{tooltip|Quickness}} until everyone is back in the center.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Mursaat Overseer}}

* Bring {{Skill|Time Warp}} as there are no breakbars here.

* You should take either Claim or Dispel to get {{Trait|Improved Alacrity}} on the special action key.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Samarog}}

* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} as Samarog has a huge breakbar and failing to CC will result in a squad member's death.

* Coordinate your CC with your teammates; try not to burn too many big CCs on the same breakbar.

* Use {{Skill|Into the Void}} to pull Rigom under Samarog during the split phases.

{{Collapse end}}

{{Collapse start|Deimos}}

* Bring {{Skill|Time Warp}} as the breakbars are small and easily broken by your teammates.

* You can block the pizza attacks and Mind Crush with {{Trait|Inspiring Distortion}}.

** Note that a player standing in two pizza slices at the same time will still get hit.

* If tanking, save {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} to dodge the pizza attack while staying in place.

* You can use any of your blocks or {{Skill|Well of Precognition}} to block Mind Crush.

{{Collapse end}}

===Hall of Chains===

{{Collapse start|Soulless Horror}}

* If tanking, consider taking extra toughness as the boss's autoattacks hit fairly hard.

* Bring {{Skill|Signet of Humility}} as failing to CC will wipe the group and {{skill|Gravity Well}} is risky with the Tormented Dead around.

* Take care when using {{Skill|Tides of Time}} as it will freeze Tormented Dead in place and interrupt knockbacks.

* Try to block the AoE attacks for your team with {{Trait|Inspiring Distortion}}.

* If you're tanking, coordinate the aggro swap with the other tank. Aim to swap aggro as soon as your current stacks expire.

* If you're tanking, move the boss near the wurms at the start so your DPS can cleave them down (with {{Skill|Epidemic}} or otherwise).

* Make sure to stand behind Soulless Horror if possible. If you're the tank, keep her facing in the same direction as her attacks deal massive damage to anyone who isn't the tank.

A safe way to introduce a player to the utility of chrono, without needing to worry about damage. It's a poor choice for a solo healer, but sometimes having any kind of chrono is so strong that this still has a lot of merit.

i think the build is really strong. i play it a lot in strikes and fracs. i like the chaos traitline but sometimes i play it with illusions and scepter trait.
