==Overview==

==Overview==
A glass cannon PvP Willbender power build that's all about massive burst damage with 100% crit chance when fully buffed.
+
Power Quickness chronomancer provides '''EITHER''' 100% {{tooltip|Quickness}} uptime or 100% {{Tooltip|Alacrity}} uptime to its subgroup while dealing okayish DPS. The quickness variant is good and flexible, the alacrity variant is not and should only be played by people that truly enjoy chronomancer, as other alacrity providers are simply better. Generally speaking, [[Build: Mirage - Alacrity Support Condi DPS]] will perform better at giving alacrity, or at least provide more boons.
 +

 +
This build can also easily tank. If the aggro is toughness based, simply equip some toughness. The amount needed will depend on the encounter and you and your squad's performance and skill. Nevertheless, it is better for a healer to tank.
 +

 +
As with all mesmer builds, it has access to plentiful utility should it be required, such as {{Skill|Feedback}}, {{Skill|Blink}}, or {{Skill|Portal Entre}}.
 +

 +
Quickness chronomancer was in the past rarely used as an offhealer, but nowadays that is a very bad option that simply cannot compete with the boons provided by reliable quickness healers.
 +

 +
Note that chronomancer used to be able to provide both quickness and alacrity at the same time, this is no longer possible.

===Weapon Variants===
 +
'''Greatsword''' is mandatory but offhand '''Shield''' can be replaced by a '''Focus''' if you need {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull adds into the boss. These variants use different gear, so check the gear section.
 +
 +
 +
===Skill Variants===
 +
 +
====Utility====
 +
;Quickness variant: Can replace Mantra of Pain if needed, and Well of Calamity if absolutely needed.
 +
;Alacrity variant: Should not replace skills. Only replace Phantasmal Disenchanter if it is asbolutely mandatory.
 +
* {{Skill|Feedback}} provides a long-duration reflect.
 +
* {{Skill|Well of Precognition}} provides aegis to your subgroup, useful for fights like Deimos CM.
 +
* {{Skill|Mantra of Concentration}} provides Stability to your group.
 +
* {{Skill|Mantra of Distraction}} for encounters that require heavy CC.
 +
* {{Skill|Signet of Domination}} offers more CC than {{Skill|Mantra of Distraction}} but on a longer cooldown, which may be more suitable for some encounters.
 +
* {{Skill|Portal Entre}} if you need a portal.
 +
* {{Skill|Mimic}} allows you to get a second use out of a key skill if you'll need it more often than the cooldown. Often used together with {{Skill|Portal Entre}}.
 +
 +
 +
====Elite====
 +
:The Quickness variant can use a different elite skill. The alacrity should always use Gravity Well.
 +
{{Skill|Time Warp}} is not required to maintain quickness, but it provides an easy way to start fights with quickness and can be used to cover up any mistakes in the rotation.
 +
* {{Skill|Gravity Well}} should be used if an encounter requires heavy CC.
 +
* {{Skill|Signet of Humility}} bigger and faster CC than {{Skill|Gravity Well}} but on a longer cooldown, which may be more suitable for some encounters.

===Slot Changes===

Utility:

* {{Skill|Smite Condition}} over {{Skill|Whirling Light}} - more cleansing.

 +
* {{Trait|Time Catches Up}} - very minor dps gain if you don't need the extra CC from Delayed Reactions.
 +

 +

 +
===Specialization Variants===
 +
Sometimes, utility is more important than damage. The '''Inspiration''' traitline massively lowers your damage but is very rarely taken for the {{Tooltip|Aegis}} of {{Trait|Inspiring Distortion}} if {{Skill|Well of Precognition}} would not be enough, or if the cooldown of {{Skill|Distortion}} is too long to deal with some mechanic so you complement it with {{Trait|Blurred Inscriptions}}, for example if tanking Vale Guardian. Replaces '''Dueling'''.
 +

 +
{{Specialization|Inspiration|top|mid|bot|variant = y}}
 +

 +
* If the feedback from {{Trait|Medic's Feedback}} might cause problems (such as in Cairn), then you can swap it out for {{Trait|Restorative Mantras}} or {{Trait|Sympathetic Visage}} depending on whether healing or condition cleansing is more useful.
 +
* If using a focus, then {{Trait|Warden's Feedback}} is very nice, assuming the reflects won't be an issue.
 +
* For {{Trait|Blurred Inscriptions}} you can consider {{Skill|Signet of Inspiration}} to help your subgroup with boon uptime, or {{Skill|Signet of Midnight}} for its instant cast.

The usage section focuses on the '''quickness variant'''. If you are playing the '''alacrity variant''', follow the same rotation but prioritise above everything else using all your wells off cooldown.
* {{Tooltip|Resolution}} increases your critical strike chance by 40% via {{Trait|Righteous Instincts}}, pushing it to 100% while you have this boon. Always try to maintain Resolution or at least apply it before bursts.
+

** Every Virtue and shadowstep (teleport) grants {{Tooltip|Resolution}} from the traits {{Trait|Vanguard Tactics}} and {{Trait|Virtue of Resolution}}. Most of the time these skills are part of your burst combos so you don't have to worry too much about maintaining this boon.

 +
Start on Sword/Shield
 +
# {{Skill|Echo of Memory}} (while engaging the boss. If the fight starts inmediately, use Time Warp first, then Echo of Memory, and cast one greatsword auto inbetween Mirror Blade and Phantasmal Berserker to ensure the Echo of Memory phantasm has enough time to become a clone)
 +
# {{Skill|Time Warp}}
 +
# {{Skill|Illusionary Leap}} {{to}} {{Tooltip|Weapon swap}} to cancel the aftercast animation.
 +
# {{Skill|Mirror Blade}}
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}} {{to}} {{Skill|Continuum Split}} with 3 clones at the end of the casting time. Cast both charges of Mantra of Pain.
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Disenchanter}}
 +
# {{Skill|Signet of the Ether}}
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}}
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Disenchanter}}
 +
# {{Skill|Well of Calamity}} {{to}} {{Skill|Split Second}} {{to}} {{Skill|Mind Stab}} so Mind Stab cancels the long aftercast of Well of Calamity.
 +
# Continuum Split ends during Mind Stab.
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}} and start spamming Mantra of Pain anytime it gets a charge.
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Disenchanter}}
 +
# {{Skill|Well of Calamity}} {{to}} {{Skill|Signet of the Ether}} so Signet of Ether cancels the long aftercast of Well of Calamity.

# {{Skill|Phantasmal Disenchanter}}
 +

 +

 +
<big>'''Loop'''</big>
 +
* The loop is very simple. In the greatsword set, you will use {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}} 3 times thanks to {{Skill|Signet of the Ether}}. You use {{Skill|Phantasmal Disenchanter}} once per weapon set.
 +
* If you need a full breakdown, this is the full loop:
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}}
 +
# {{Skill|Mirror Blade}}
 +
# {{Skill|Mind Stab}}
 +
# {{Skill|Well of Calamity}}
 +
# {{Skill|Mirror Blade}}
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Disenchanter}}

# {{Skill|Mind Stab}}
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}}
 +
# {{Skill|Mirror Blade}}
 +
# {{Skill|Signet of the Ether}}
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}}
 +
# {{Tooltip|Weapon Swap}}
 +
# {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}}
 +
# {{Skill|Tides of Time}}
 +
# {{Skill|Phantasmal Disenchanter}}
 +
# {{Skill|Well of Calamity}}
 +
# {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}}
 +
* Fill the gaps with auto attacks. Use {{Skill|Mantra of Pain}} off cooldown.
 +

 +

 +
<big>'''Continuum Split'''</big>
 +
* When {{Skill|Continuum Split}} is almost off cooldown, prepare 3 clones to use it on greatsword. You want to use {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}} and {{Skill|Phantasmal Disenchanter}} twice thanks to {{Skill|Signet of the Ether}}, plus {{Skill|Well of Calamity}}, and {{skill|Mind Stab}}.

===Notes===
 +
* Shield is the default weapon because it allows you to run lower boon duration, in turn doing more damage. But focus is still very good with {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} {{to}} {{Skill|Into the Void}} to pull adds onto the boss. Just remember that the quickness variants needs higher boon duration if you are going to use focus —check the gear section— while the alacrity variant will have to run 4 wells.
 +
* {{Skill|Time Warp}} is not necessary to maintain quickness. Once it comes off cooldown after the first use, just use it when your allies might not have quickness, for example when coming back from doing cannons on Sabetha, or when coming back from the demon realm on Deimos.
 +
* {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} and {{Skill|Illusionary Riposte}} can be used to avoid incoming damage with less of a DPS loss than dodging.
 +

* Every '''Virtue''' skill is a '''mobility''' skill on Willbender. Besides their base functionality they are great for sticking to targets or escaping damage.
+
===Clone Sources===
 +
The following skills summons clones
 +
* {{Skill|Illusionary Leap}} summons a clone on your target.
 +
* {{Skill|Illusionary Riposte}} summons a clone on your target if you succesfully block.
 +
* {{Skill|Mirror Blade}} summons a clone on your target when the projectile hits.
 +
The following skills summon phantasms than later become clones
 +
* {{Skill|Phantasmal Berserker}} summons 2 phantasms that latter become 2 clones.
 +
* {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} summons a phantasm that latter becomes a clone.
 +
* {{Skill|Echo of Memory}} sumons a phantasm that latter becomes a clone.
 +
** If you block an attack with Echo of Memory, you can use {{Skill|Deja Vu}}, which sumons a phantasm that latter becomes a clone.

*{{Skill|Rushing Justice}} is refreshed after each kill so make sure you always have it on cooldown right before a kill. Using it also applies AoE {{Tooltip|Blind}} which can be useful for stomping or making high priority skills miss. It's also one of the hardest hitting skills in the build.

*Try to burn through all of your virtues before resorting to {{Skill|Renewed Focus}}. RF is a great skill to use if you're being focues by the enemy team and you don't have any CDs left. Just keep in mind that this skill makes you lose capture point contribution for its duration.
+
===Shatter Usage===
 +
* {{Skill|Split Second}} is your primary shatter and does by far the most damage. As you practice this build, you will always have 3 clones ready for it, so you're going to be using if off cooldown.
 +
* {{Skill|Rewinder}} should only be cast in the greatsword set shortly after {{Skill|Split Second}}, because the greatsword loop rotation generates enough clones to have 3 ready for the next Split Second.
 +
* {{Skill|Time Sink}} should be saved for emergencies to provide CC or cover quickness gaps.
 +
* Neither of your shatters line up perfectly in your loop, so they will drift, but you should be using {{Skill|Split Second}} at ''least'' once on each weapon set.

* {{Skill|Whirling Light}} is as much of a defensive skill as it is offensive, offering AoE {{Tooltip|Weakness}} application on top of great damage.
+
=== Crowd Control ===
 +
* {{Skill|Time Sink}} - daze.
 +
* {{Skill|Tides of Time}} - stun (shield only)
 +
* {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} {{to}} {{Skill|Into the Void}} - pull
 +
* {{Skill|Illusionary Wave}} - Knockback.
 +
If you need more CC remember you can take {{Skill|Gravity Well}}, or {{Skill|Signet of Humility}}, or {{Skill|Mantra of Distraction}}, or {{Skill|Signet of Domination}}.

* One of Willbender's greatest strengths is its '''mobility''':

**Every virtue skill is a mobility skill.

** Both weapon sets have either teleports or leaps. Most of the teleports require a target, but you can get creative with that by doing things like selecting a far away enemy target and spamming teleports to get across the map faster, or selecting objects such as a Trebuchet on Battle of Kyhlo to leave enemies behind.

** {{Skill|Advancing Strike}} is a good mobility skill even without a target as it makes you dash forward.

'''Sword/Sword'''
+
==Encounter Specific Tips==

*The main source of burst damage here comes from the the offhand skills:
+
===Spirit Vale===
** {{Skill|Advancing Strike}} deals good damage and sets up your next attack perfectly with {{Tooltip|Immobilize}} and {{Tooltip|Resolution}} (it's a shadowstep).
+
{{Collapse start|Vale Guardian}}
** {{Skill|Executioner's Calling}} is the hardest hitting skill on this set and combos well with Advancing Strike.
+
* If tanking, consider taking extra toughness as the boss's autoattacks hit fairly hard.
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for the breakbars.
 +
* Maintain a sword clone in the split phase to help with boon removal.
 +
* Use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to help with seeker control.
 +
* Save {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} to evade through blue AOEs while keeping up DPS.
 +
* Save {{Skill|Distortion}} to negate the damage of a Green in high preasure situations. If it's really needed, take Inspiration with {{Trait|Blurred Inscriptions}} and {{Skill|Signet of Inspiration}} to negate the damage of all Greens.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

* {{Skill|Zealot's Defense}} is both defensive and offensive, deals solid damage while destroying enemy projectiles. Note that the damage of this skill can be very unreliable in anything but melee range.
+
{{Collapse start|Ghost events}}
 +
* Feel free to bring {{Skill|Feedback}} for some reflects. {{Skill|Blink}} and {{Skill|Portal Entre}} can be used for more mobility.
 +
* Abuse the adrenal mushrooms to reset your {{Skill|Blink}} and {{Skill|Portal Entre}}.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

*{{Skill|Symbol of Blades}} has many uses: vertical mobility via teleportation, symbol for cleaving, {{Tooltip|Blind}} to make an important skill miss, or a combo field which can be used for AoE cleansing by executing a blast finisher in it.
+
{{Collapse start|Gorseval the Multifarious}}
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for the breakbars.
 +
* You can use your signets (if you're using {{Trait|Blurred Inscriptions}}) to {{tooltip|Aegis}} Gorseval's knockback or the black zones during the CC phase.
 +
* You can use {{Skill|Illusionary Leap}} and {{Skill|Swap}} to immobilize Charged Souls.
 +
* Use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull the adds. The pull works best if you place the curtain just behind his hitbox.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

 +
{{Collapse start|Sabetha the Saboteur}}
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Time Warp}} as there is only one breakbar which your teammates can easily cover.
 +
* Use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull the bandit adds for easier cleaving. You can do this when Sabetha starts her flamewall.
 +
* Be careful of teleporting into flamewalls with {{Skill|Continuum Shift}}. You might have to abort CS early or delay it to avoid this.
 +
* You might need to abort Continuum Split if you have to throw a bomb.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

'''Greatsword'''

*{{Skill|Whirling Wrath}} is the main burst skill in the build, make sure it lands - do an unexpected ranged burst with {{Skill|Judge's Intervention}}, or use it after pulling targets in with {{Skill|Binding Blade}}.
+
===Salvation Pass===
 +
{{Collapse start|Slothasor}}
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for the breakbars.
 +
* Use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull some slublings but always make sure you don't pull your friendly slubling.
 +
* You can use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} without the pull (or delay the pull) to provide more projectile defense.
 +
* If you are using {{Skill|Feedback}} keep in mind where your group will stand in the next few seconds. When you're about to move don't place it on your current position.
 +
* {{Skill|Distortion}} can be used to destroy the projectiles from the unblockable shake attack by jumping inside the boss when it shakes like a wet dog.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

*When in combat, always try to combo {{Skill|Leap of Faith}} in a Light field such as {{Skill|Symbol of Wrath}} for {{Tooltip|Light Aura}}. Few things to note when using this for mobility:
+
{{Collapse start|Bandit Trio}}
** If you're '''OOC''' (out of combat), swap weapons just before the leap finishes in order to cancel the final part of the skill which would otherwise bring you to a halt.
+
* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for add control.
** '''In combat''' this can be used for jumping away from the fight to avoid damage. To do that simply just detarget (click anywhere on your screen that's not an enemy player) before using the skill, and make sure that auto-targetting is disabled.
+
* Use focus to pull mobs together.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

*{{Skill|Binding Blade}} is useful even when the target has {{Tooltip|Stability}} and thus cannot be pulled. The damage over time part of this skill is decent, and you could time it in a way that the target's stability runs out before Binding Blade does, allowing you to pull them in later. '''Note:''' the skill itself ''can'' be dodged, but once the blades are attached, you can pull targets out of any kind of evade frame! Last but not least, the blades seek out enemies even if they are {{Tooltip|Stealth}}ed.
+
{{Collapse start|Matthias Gabrel}}
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} as failing to CC will result in a squad member's death.
 +
* Be careful with your reflects! You should only use {{Skill|Feedback}} to break Bloodstone Shield. If you reflect his slam attack Matthias will get a damage buff for each projectile you reflected.
 +
** Also be careful with {{Skill|Tides of Time}} as this skill will eat the shards needed to break Bloodstone Shield.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

===Stronghold of the Faithful===
# If possible, have an active {{Tooltip|Aegis}} to gain the damage bonus from{{Trait|Unscathed Contender}}.
+
{{Collapse start|Siege the Stronghold (Escort)}}
# Weapon Swap to GS if you're not already on it (in combat this also procs your sigils).
+
* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for add control.
#{{Skill|Whirling Wrath}} - start casting it from range.
+
* The most popular strat for this encounter is "all up" or "insta cap", where one chronomancer solos the cave, tanks the tower mobs, and uses {{Skill|Portal Entre}} to taxi the group up to every tower. This lets you effectively have 9 people on both the main path and the towers. If you are filling this role consider running extra toughness to make it easier to survive the tower mobs on your own.
#{{Skill|Judge's Intervention}} to teleport to the target right before WW starts doing damage.
+
** If your group is fast you might need to {{Skill|Mimic}} your {{Skill|Portal Entre}}, or ask another mesmer to bring {{Skill|Portal Entre}} and help you port the 4th tower.
 +
** If your team is okay with you not giving quickness in order to make sure you can reliably solo the skip part, you can bring {{Skill|Blink}} and {{Skill|Mass Invisibility}}.
 +
* Use focus to pull mobs together.

* If tanking, consider running extra toughness as there is a lot of random damage on this fight and your healer will have their hands full.
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} for the breakbars.
 +
* {{Skill|Well of Eternity}} can be useful for condition cleanse and {{Rune|Superior Rune of the Scholar}} uptime.
 +
* Use your {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull adds into the boss.
 +
* You can use {{Skill|Temporal Curtain}} to pull orbs. Make sure to pull the last orb to make sure you're not pulling more than one orb.
 +
* If you're tanking, make sure to keep Xera facing away from your group as her Blurred Frenzy will deal massive damage to your DPS. You can use {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} or {{Skill|Echo of Memory}} to protect yourself from the attack while staying in place.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

* {{Skill|Reversal of Fortune}} (your healing skill) is best used when an attack is already coming your way or you're absolutely certain that you're going to be hit in order to get maximum healing (and block value) out of it. If you're not being focused but want to heal consider moving briefly into an enemy AoE skill.

* {{Skill|Contemplation of Purity}} is a purely defensive stun break and your best answer against an overwhelming amount of conditions. Usually a last resort for when you're heavily pressured and other options don't cut it anymore.
+
===Bastion of the Penitent===
 +
{{Collapse start|Cairn the Indomitable}}
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Time Warp}} as there are no breakbars here.
 +
* You can use {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} to evade through red AOEs while keeping up DPS.
 +
* If doing greens, you should delay your {{tooltip|Quickness}} until everyone is back in the center.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

* {{Skill|Crashing Courage}} is an excellent and versatile defensive skill. Short CD, breaks stuns, grants boons, it's also a ground targeted ranged teleport which adds a lot of vertical mobility to the build. Leaving attackers behind while teleporting to the highground can save your life. As with most Willbender skills, it's not purely defensive - the AoE it leaves behind upon landing is a good source of cleave damage too, so you could sacrifice this skill to chase or pressure targets if you're fine with giving up a defensive CD.
+
{{Collapse start|Mursaat Overseer}}
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Time Warp}} as there are no breakbars here.
 +
* You should take either Claim or Dispel to get {{Trait|Improved Alacrity}} on the special action key.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

* {{Skill|Judge's Intervention}} is also a stun break but most of the time it'll be used to execute burst combos from range. Worth holding onto for defensive purposes when every other stun break is on CD though.
+
{{Collapse start|Samarog}}
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Gravity Well}} as Samarog has a huge breakbar and failing to CC will result in a squad member's death.
 +
* Coordinate your CC with your teammates; try not to burn too many big CCs on the same breakbar.
 +
* Use {{Skill|Into the Void}} to pull Rigom under Samarog during the split phases.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

* As long as you have {{Skill|Renewed Focus}} you're somewhat safe. It's an incredibly powerful defensive skill which grants you immunity to incoming damage and CC (other than fall damage) when under heavy pressure, and refreshes all of your Virtues which could either help you stay alive longer or run away.
+
{{Collapse start|Deimos}}
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Time Warp}} as the breakbars are small and easily broken by your teammates.
 +
* You can block the pizza attacks and Mind Crush with {{Trait|Inspiring Distortion}}.
 +
** Note that a player standing in two pizza slices at the same time will still get hit.
 +
* If tanking, save {{Skill|Blurred Frenzy}} to dodge the pizza attack while staying in place.
 +
* You can use any of your blocks or {{Skill|Well of Precognition}} to block Mind Crush.
 +
{{Collapse end}}

+
{{Collapse start|Soulless Horror}}
 +
* If tanking, consider taking extra toughness as the boss's autoattacks hit fairly hard.
 +
* Bring {{Skill|Signet of Humility}} as failing to CC will wipe the group and {{skill|Gravity Well}} is risky with the Tormented Dead around.
 +
* Take care when using {{Skill|Tides of Time}} as it will freeze Tormented Dead in place and interrupt knockbacks.
 +
* Try to block the AoE attacks for your team with {{Trait|Inspiring Distortion}}.
 +
* If you're tanking, coordinate the aggro swap with the other tank. Aim to swap aggro as soon as your current stacks expire.
 +
* If you're tanking, move the boss near the wurms at the start so your DPS can cleave them down (with {{Skill|Epidemic}} or otherwise).
 +
* Make sure to stand behind Soulless Horror if possible. If you're the tank, keep her facing in the same direction as her attacks deal massive damage to anyone who isn't the tank.

Revision as of 17:21, 20 January 2023

The community gave this build a rating, making it top-tier: Great

Focused on: Direct damageSupport and Utility

Designed for: Raids

Expansions required: Heart of Thorns builds

Difficulty:
TBD
This build was last updated on January 20, 2023 and is up to date for the March 19, 2024 patch.

Overview

Power Quickness chronomancer provides EITHER 100% Quickness Quickness uptime or 100% Alacrity Alacrity uptime to its subgroup while dealing okayish DPS. The quickness variant is good and flexible, the alacrity variant is not and should only be played by people that truly enjoy chronomancer, as other alacrity providers are simply better. Generally speaking, Build: Mirage - Alacrity Support Condi DPS will perform better at giving alacrity, or at least provide more boons.

This build can also easily tank. If the aggro is toughness based, simply equip some toughness. The amount needed will depend on the encounter and you and your squad's performance and skill. Nevertheless, it is better for a healer to tank.

As with all mesmer builds, it has access to plentiful utility should it be required, such as Feedback, Blink, or Portal Entre.

Quickness chronomancer was in the past rarely used as an offhealer, but nowadays that is a very bad option that simply cannot compete with the boons provided by reliable quickness healers.

Note that chronomancer used to be able to provide both quickness and alacrity at the same time, this is no longer possible.

Skill Bar

Sword/Shield
Greatsword
Utility
Quickness variant
Use Mantra of Pain in the empty slot.
Alacrity variant
Use Well of Recall in the empty slot.

Weapon Variants

Greatsword is mandatory but offhand Shield can be replaced by a Focus if you need Temporal Curtain to pull adds into the boss. These variants use different gear, so check the gear section.

Skill Variants

Utility

Quickness variant
Can replace Mantra of Pain if needed, and Well of Calamity if absolutely needed.
Alacrity variant
Should not replace skills. Only replace Phantasmal Disenchanter if it is asbolutely mandatory.
  • Feedback provides a long-duration reflect.
  • Well of Precognition provides aegis to your subgroup, useful for fights like Deimos CM.
  • Mantra of Concentration provides Stability to your group.
  • Mantra of Distraction for encounters that require heavy CC.
  • Signet of Domination offers more CC than Mantra of Distraction but on a longer cooldown, which may be more suitable for some encounters.
  • Portal Entre if you need a portal.
  • Mimic allows you to get a second use out of a key skill if you'll need it more often than the cooldown. Often used together with Portal Entre.

Elite

The Quickness variant can use a different elite skill. The alacrity should always use Gravity Well.

Time Warp is not required to maintain quickness, but it provides an easy way to start fights with quickness and can be used to cover up any mistakes in the rotation.

  • Gravity Well should be used if an encounter requires heavy CC.
  • Signet of Humility bigger and faster CC than Gravity Well but on a longer cooldown, which may be more suitable for some encounters.

Specializations

Quickness variant
Use Seize the Moment.
Alacrity variant
Use Stretched Time.

Trait Variants

  • Time Catches Up - very minor dps gain if you don't need the extra CC from Delayed Reactions.

Specialization Variants

Sometimes, utility is more important than damage. The Inspiration traitline massively lowers your damage but is very rarely taken for the Aegis Aegis of Inspiring Distortion if Well of Precognition would not be enough, or if the cooldown of Distortion is too long to deal with some mechanic so you complement it with Blurred Inscriptions, for example if tanking Vale Guardian. Replaces Dueling.

  • If the feedback from Medic's Feedback might cause problems (such as in Cairn), then you can swap it out for Restorative Mantras or Sympathetic Visage depending on whether healing or condition cleansing is more useful.
  • If using a focus, then Warden's Feedback is very nice, assuming the reflects won't be an issue.
  • For Blurred Inscriptions you can consider Signet of Inspiration to help your subgroup with boon uptime, or Signet of Midnight for its instant cast.

Equipment

Quickness variant
Can use either shield or focus, but focus requires more boon duration leading to lower damage, so it should only be played when you need the utility of Temporal Curtain.
Aalacrity variant
Uses shield. If you absolutely need the utility of Temporal Curtain, you will need to replace Phantasmal Disenchanter with yet another well and do even lower damage.

  • If you want to maximise your damage, swap the Sigil of Superior Sigil of Concentration for a Sigil of Superior Sigil of Air for 5.4% boon duration, but your quickness will drop if you can't maintain a perfect rotation.

Quickness focus

If you absolutely require the utility of Temporal Curtain, replace shield with focus and use this gear set because you will need a lot more boon duration.

Utility

Usage

The usage section focuses on the quickness variant. If you are playing the alacrity variant, follow the same rotation but prioritise above everything else using all your wells off cooldown.

Rotation

Opener

Start on Sword/Shield

  1. Echo of Memory (while engaging the boss. If the fight starts inmediately, use Time Warp first, then Echo of Memory, and cast one greatsword auto inbetween Mirror Blade and Phantasmal Berserker to ensure the Echo of Memory phantasm has enough time to become a clone)
  2. Time Warp
  3. Illusionary Leap Weapon swap Weapon swap to cancel the aftercast animation.
  4. Mirror Blade
  5. Phantasmal Berserker Continuum Split with 3 clones at the end of the casting time. Cast both charges of Mantra of Pain.
  6. Phantasmal Disenchanter
  7. Signet of the Ether
  8. Phantasmal Berserker
  9. Phantasmal Disenchanter
  10. Well of Calamity Split Second Mind Stab so Mind Stab cancels the long aftercast of Well of Calamity.
  11. Continuum Split ends during Mind Stab.
  12. Phantasmal Berserker and start spamming Mantra of Pain anytime it gets a charge.
  13. Phantasmal Disenchanter
  14. Well of Calamity Signet of the Ether so Signet of Ether cancels the long aftercast of Well of Calamity.
  15. Phantasmal Berserker
  16. Mirror Blade
  17. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap
  18. Blurred Frenzy
  19. Tides of Time
  20. Phantasmal Disenchanter

Loop

  • The loop is very simple. In the greatsword set, you will use Phantasmal Berserker 3 times thanks to Signet of the Ether. You use Phantasmal Disenchanter once per weapon set.
  • If you need a full breakdown, this is the full loop:
  1. Phantasmal Berserker
  2. Mirror Blade
  3. Mind Stab
  4. Well of Calamity
  5. Mirror Blade
  6. Phantasmal Disenchanter
  7. Mind Stab
  8. Phantasmal Berserker
  9. Mirror Blade
  10. Signet of the Ether
  11. Phantasmal Berserker
  12. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap
  13. Blurred Frenzy
  14. Tides of Time
  15. Phantasmal Disenchanter
  16. Well of Calamity
  17. Blurred Frenzy
  • Fill the gaps with auto attacks. Use Mantra of Pain off cooldown.

Continuum Split

  • When Continuum Split is almost off cooldown, prepare 3 clones to use it on greatsword. You want to use Phantasmal Berserker and Phantasmal Disenchanter twice thanks to Signet of the Ether, plus Well of Calamity, and Mind Stab.

Video example of quickness rotation

Video example of alacrity rotation

Notes

  • Shield is the default weapon because it allows you to run lower boon duration, in turn doing more damage. But focus is still very good with Temporal Curtain Into the Void to pull adds onto the boss. Just remember that the quickness variants needs higher boon duration if you are going to use focus —check the gear section— while the alacrity variant will have to run 4 wells.
  • Time Warp is not necessary to maintain quickness. Once it comes off cooldown after the first use, just use it when your allies might not have quickness, for example when coming back from doing cannons on Sabetha, or when coming back from the demon realm on Deimos.
  • Blurred Frenzy and Illusionary Riposte can be used to avoid incoming damage with less of a DPS loss than dodging.

Clone Sources

The following skills summons clones

  • Illusionary Leap summons a clone on your target.
  • Illusionary Riposte summons a clone on your target if you succesfully block.
  • Mirror Blade summons a clone on your target when the projectile hits.

The following skills summon phantasms than later become clones

  • Phantasmal Berserker summons 2 phantasms that latter become 2 clones.
  • Blurred Frenzy summons a phantasm that latter becomes a clone.
  • Echo of Memory sumons a phantasm that latter becomes a clone.
    • If you block an attack with Echo of Memory, you can use Deja Vu, which sumons a phantasm that latter becomes a clone.

Shatter Usage

  • Split Second is your primary shatter and does by far the most damage. As you practice this build, you will always have 3 clones ready for it, so you're going to be using if off cooldown.
  • Rewinder should only be cast in the greatsword set shortly after Split Second, because the greatsword loop rotation generates enough clones to have 3 ready for the next Split Second.
  • Time Sink should be saved for emergencies to provide CC or cover quickness gaps.
  • Neither of your shatters line up perfectly in your loop, so they will drift, but you should be using Split Second at least once on each weapon set.

Crowd Control

  • Time Sink - daze.
  • Tides of Time - stun (shield only)
  • Temporal Curtain Into the Void - pull
  • Illusionary Wave - Knockback.

If you need more CC remember you can take Gravity Well, or Signet of Humility, or Mantra of Distraction, or Signet of Domination.

Encounter Specific Tips

Spirit Vale

Vale Guardian Toggle
  • If tanking, consider taking extra toughness as the boss's autoattacks hit fairly hard.
  • Bring Gravity Well for the breakbars.
  • Maintain a sword clone in the split phase to help with boon removal.
  • Use Temporal Curtain to help with seeker control.
  • Save Blurred Frenzy to evade through blue AOEs while keeping up DPS.
  • Save Distortion to negate the damage of a Green in high preasure situations. If it's really needed, take Inspiration with Blurred Inscriptions and Signet of Inspiration to negate the damage of all Greens.
Ghost events Toggle
  • Feel free to bring Feedback for some reflects. Blink and Portal Entre can be used for more mobility.
  • Abuse the adrenal mushrooms to reset your Blink and Portal Entre.
Gorseval the Multifarious Toggle
  • Bring Gravity Well for the breakbars.
  • You can use your signets (if you're using Blurred Inscriptions) to Aegis Aegis Gorseval's knockback or the black zones during the CC phase.
  • You can use Illusionary Leap and Swap to immobilize Charged Souls.
  • Use Temporal Curtain to pull the adds. The pull works best if you place the curtain just behind his hitbox.
Sabetha the Saboteur Toggle
  • Bring Time Warp as there is only one breakbar which your teammates can easily cover.
  • Use Temporal Curtain to pull the bandit adds for easier cleaving. You can do this when Sabetha starts her flamewall.
  • Be careful of teleporting into flamewalls with Continuum Shift. You might have to abort CS early or delay it to avoid this.
  • You might need to abort Continuum Split if you have to throw a bomb.

Salvation Pass

Slothasor Toggle
  • Bring Gravity Well for the breakbars.
  • Use Temporal Curtain to pull some slublings but always make sure you don't pull your friendly slubling.
  • You can use Temporal Curtain without the pull (or delay the pull) to provide more projectile defense.
  • If you are using Feedback keep in mind where your group will stand in the next few seconds. When you're about to move don't place it on your current position.
  • Distortion can be used to destroy the projectiles from the unblockable shake attack by jumping inside the boss when it shakes like a wet dog.
Bandit Trio Toggle
  • Bring Gravity Well for add control.
  • Use focus to pull mobs together.
Matthias Gabrel Toggle
  • Bring Gravity Well as failing to CC will result in a squad member's death.
  • Be careful with your reflects! You should only use Feedback to break Bloodstone Shield. If you reflect his slam attack Matthias will get a damage buff for each projectile you reflected.
    • Also be careful with Tides of Time as this skill will eat the shards needed to break Bloodstone Shield.

Stronghold of the Faithful

Siege the Stronghold (Escort) Toggle
  • Bring Gravity Well for add control.
  • The most popular strat for this encounter is "all up" or "insta cap", where one chronomancer solos the cave, tanks the tower mobs, and uses Portal Entre to taxi the group up to every tower. This lets you effectively have 9 people on both the main path and the towers. If you are filling this role consider running extra toughness to make it easier to survive the tower mobs on your own.
    • If your group is fast you might need to Mimic your Portal Entre, or ask another mesmer to bring Portal Entre and help you port the 4th tower.
    • If your team is okay with you not giving quickness in order to make sure you can reliably solo the skip part, you can bring Blink and Mass Invisibility.
  • Use focus to pull mobs together.
Keep Construct Toggle
  • Bring Gravity Well for the breakbars.
  • Make sure to have Quickness Quickness ready for the burn phase.
  • Use Temporal Curtain to help pull the core through the rifts. Coordinate with other players on who is going to pull and when.
Xera Toggle
  • If tanking, consider running extra toughness as there is a lot of random damage on this fight and your healer will have their hands full.
  • Bring Gravity Well for the breakbars.
  • Well of Eternity can be useful for condition cleanse and Rune of Superior Rune of the Scholar uptime.
  • Use your Temporal Curtain to pull adds into the boss.
  • You can use Temporal Curtain to pull orbs. Make sure to pull the last orb to make sure you're not pulling more than one orb.
  • If you're tanking, make sure to keep Xera facing away from your group as her Blurred Frenzy will deal massive damage to your DPS. You can use Blurred Frenzy or Echo of Memory to protect yourself from the attack while staying in place.

Bastion of the Penitent

Cairn the Indomitable Toggle
  • Bring Time Warp as there are no breakbars here.
  • You can use Blurred Frenzy to evade through red AOEs while keeping up DPS.
  • If doing greens, you should delay your Quickness Quickness until everyone is back in the center.
Mursaat Overseer Toggle
  • Bring Time Warp as there are no breakbars here.
  • You should take either Claim or Dispel to get Improved Alacrity on the special action key.
Samarog Toggle
  • Bring Gravity Well as Samarog has a huge breakbar and failing to CC will result in a squad member's death.
  • Coordinate your CC with your teammates; try not to burn too many big CCs on the same breakbar.
  • Use Into the Void to pull Rigom under Samarog during the split phases.
Deimos Toggle
  • Bring Time Warp as the breakbars are small and easily broken by your teammates.
  • You can block the pizza attacks and Mind Crush with Inspiring Distortion.
    • Note that a player standing in two pizza slices at the same time will still get hit.
  • If tanking, save Blurred Frenzy to dodge the pizza attack while staying in place.
  • You can use any of your blocks or Well of Precognition to block Mind Crush.

Hall of Chains

Soulless Horror Toggle
  • If tanking, consider taking extra toughness as the boss's autoattacks hit fairly hard.
  • Bring Signet of Humility as failing to CC will wipe the group and Gravity Well is risky with the Tormented Dead around.
  • Take care when using Tides of Time as it will freeze Tormented Dead in place and interrupt knockbacks.
  • Try to block the AoE attacks for your team with Inspiring Distortion.
  • If you're tanking, coordinate the aggro swap with the other tank. Aim to swap aggro as soon as your current stacks expire.
  • If you're tanking, move the boss near the wurms at the start so your DPS can cleave them down (with Epidemic or otherwise).
  • Make sure to stand behind Soulless Horror if possible. If you're the tank, keep her facing in the same direction as her attacks deal massive damage to anyone who isn't the tank.

From-Space mobility & does everything. Great cleave and boons. Beware of things with multi-hit unblockable spam. But you should be able to take apart / kite just about anything in the game rn. Brawler relic makes this kinda nuts.

Now that virtues stack, this is again top tier build for anyone with fast hands. Signet of Resolve is also viable more offensive teamfighting option. Beats thief in 2vs2 and 1vs1 situations so can give you lot of control off points.

Vex gave this build 5 stars • March 2023
The best dps option guardian has. Currently maining it, won't lie sometimes I'm having a hard time but I always have enough damage and map presence to be relevant. Atm Plat 1 but plat 2 seems possible with it too at least for me who's somewhat average. Wish we had some resistance boon from somewhere maybe the heal, that's all I'd like to see improved, something to counter the weakness and blind spam.

Falls short compared to valor mediwb, both in sustain and overall damage, even with the loss of critcap, though still works as a non-worthless thief alternative

Still great, but the nerfs can be felt. The S+ tier damage and mobility used to compensate for its low sustain, so getting the sustain/mobiity nerfed (F2 losing a charge) AND then hitting the damage too made it lose some of its popularity. Still has great damage, but it's harder to play now and people are gravitating more and more towards other options like Herald.

I couldn't tell this got nerfed if it wasn't for me reading the patchnotes. Slap on the wrist at best, still 5/5, still top damage every game. Melts people as always.

This is a meta-defining build. No spec should have access to this much mobility, burst, and teamfight support - especially while having a low skill floor. Expect it to be nerfed in the next balance pass.

You all make me laugh rating this crap 4.8 hahaha This is the most broken spec of all EoD, brainless to play, insane low risk high reward. Voted bad by little guardian mains who don't wanna get nerf this hardcore carrying build. 10/10 damage 10/10 mobility Can take any spvp role on demand, 1vs1, roamer dps, team fighter, +1. Ape tier build which shouldn't be in the great section or even meta, should be Meta+++ Overpowered.

Weeaboo ow gave this build 4 stars • May 2022
Great build for beginner pvp players. It doesn't require that much skill, so you can make more mistakes and get away with it. Sadly you have more mobility than a specter, more sustain than spellbreaker and let's not talk about it's ridiculous dmg. It's straight up overpowered and hopefully gets nerfed to the ground, because having 4 willbender in every ranked game (low plat elo) isn't fun.

Ridiculously strong teamfighter/roamer/+1er/sometimes even duelist. Imagine herald but a lot better. Massive damage, decent sustain, provides group condi cleanse and stab, incredible offensive and decent defensive mobility. This will be a meta DPS until balance changes happen.

Just tried this build for the first time tonight, i've been playing willbender in pve exclusively so i'm pretty familiar with its new skills. This build has high mobility, evasion survivability and damage output. Great build, it can and will be one of the best when mastered.

I believe this build will work its way into the current meta purely because of how customisable the weapons are and how well it gels with the meta shout guard + necros. It has high survivability and you can swap out the GS for mace/scep+focus depending on the enemy team comp. You can also keep whirling or change it for smite/SY. There's just so many different options on this I think you can build around your team and the enemy so that you're more effective. Other builds are too rigid to do this.

Has way more sustain than DH! Big damage big mobility and the stability access is great, even big stab for your teammates!
