The community gave this build a rating, making it top-tier: Great.

Focused on: Direct damageSupport.

Designed for:

Not being a direct replacement for Mantra Bunker, it's usually played as the second Firebrand in double FB comps. Mixing damage with heavy healing/boon sharing, this PvP build's rather flexible when it comes to roles and can do anything from 1v1s to supporting the team in larger fights.

Slot Changes

For the optional slot you should take either of these stun breakers:

  • - a great panic button especially against heavy condition pressure.
  • - panic button and on demand stability for safe stomps and resurrects.
  • - mobility boost which makes it easier to rotate between capture points (or chase down targets).

  • more defensive pick to retain tomes passives and have reduced recharge.

  • Sustained healing (when not flipping through tomes) for the most part will come from dodge rolling and Aegis Aegis spamming (specifically through the traits and ).
  • recharges all your Tomes, try to exhaust them for your sustain before having to resort to this elite.
    • NOTE: the cooldown of a tome which is actively being used during a CD reset WILL NOT be reset! For instance if you still have 3 pages on but a target is just about to die, exit the tome so it can recharge.
    • CD resets are limited to the tomes themselves, skills within the tomes are excluded.

Symbols and damage

  • Most of the damage comes from symbols and auto attacks, with the occasional mantra or tome skill thrown into the mix.
  • Because of your symbols can cover an entire capture point on certain maps. They'll also heal allies, damage foes, and apply boons among other things. Stand in them for as long as possible!
  • There are 4 symbols in the build:
    • (Sword) is one of the few sources of Fury Fury in the build and also serves as a gap closer.
    • (Axe) which probably does more things than any other symbol. There are 2 important things to note about this skill - one, it's always placed in front of your character, not below you or the target and two, turn this skill into a CC which Daze Dazes upon being placed on the ground.
    • A lesser version of procs from your mantra heal via . This is a short duration one but fairly important because there's not a lot of Protection Protection in the build, not to mention that it can be activated instantly by blowing mantra charges even while CC'd. Being instant, it's also a good source of extra damage if you need some additional cleave.
    • A lesser version of procs when you go under 75% HP via Can't find such trait "Zealot's Speed"! Please refer to our trait index. Its good for area denial and an extra source of damage.
  • If you want to do burst damage, overlap a bunch of symbols and keep targets inside them with CCs such as or whilst auto attacking.

  • Given enough time Mantras will recover their charges as long as at least one charge is left, so think twice before using the final charge - that's the most powerful one, but will put the Mantra on full CD.
  • is your healing skill.
    • should be shared with as many allies as possible. They do not receive the initial healing, but they do gain Aegis Aegis with all its related trait benefits. Note that this skill can be used while CC'd.
    • The Aegis Aegis can be shared with downed players when you're reviving them in case you're being cleaved down.
  • is a mix of both damage and sustain.
    • Each charge inflicts damage and various conditions, most notably Weakness Weakness (mitigates incoming direct damage significantly) and Blind Blind (the skill's instant, and being able to make attack miss no matter what you're doing can be really strong when used right).
    • is the final charge which applies Immobilize Immobilize. While the immob doesn't last too long, it's still good for pinning targets down in a team fight or just rooting them into multiple overlapping symbols.

  • Swapping out of a tome sends it on CD even if you didn't consume all the pages. Skills #4 and #5 are usually the strongest but with the longest recharge.
  • It's possible to switch directly from tome to tome.
  • Since the build doesn't trait for extra pages, your use of tomes is going to be a bit more limited, often prioritizing the use of only 2-3 skills.

is the only CC on this tome, and a rather good one at that. As usual, CCs are mostly situational.

won't really be used, maybe aside from boosting the damage of allies if the enemy target is out of your reach (and the skill's value goes up with the number of nearby allies).

Healing, cleansing, boon stacking

The tome of emergencies

  • Chapter 2: Daring Challenge Chapter 2: Daring Challenge
    Chapter 2: Daring Challenge
As the tales recount of Turai, taunt your enemies by issuing an insightfully inciting challenge.
    Damage.pngDamage: 4 (0.01)
    Taunt.pngTaunt (1s): Involuntarily attack foes.
Resolution.pngResolution (3s): Block the next incoming attack.
    Radius.pngRadius: 240
should be used as often as possible on this tome, both as an offensive and defensive skill.
  • Chapter 3: Valiant Bulwark Chapter 3: Valiant Bulwark
    Chapter 3: Valiant Bulwark
Manifest the shimmering purity of the desert sun, reflecting enemy missiles.
    Duration.png5 seconds.
    Radius.pngRadius: 240
    Book.pngReflects Missiles
    Range.pngRange: 900
is a reflect which makes it very situational. A life saver in some matchups, borderline useless in others. The CD almost matches its duration which allows for nearly permanent upkeep.
  • Chapter 4: Stalwart Stand Chapter 4: Stalwart Stand
    Chapter 4: Stalwart Stand
Recount the stand of Elonian loyalists against Palawa Joko, granting resistance to your allies.
Resistance.pngResistance (1s): Conditions currently on you are ineffective; stacks duration.
    Book.pngNumber of Pulses: 3
    Interval.pngInterval: 1 second
    Radius.pngRadius: 360
    Combo.pngCombo Field: Light
    Stun-Break.pngBreaks stun
should usually be the first skill you use after entering this tome, and this is your single best tool against conditions. Under heavy condition pressure you may not have enough time to cleanse with , in which case the low cast time and the Resistance Resistance provided by this skill are going to be quite useful. This is also the only tome skill which breaks stun. Try to use it twice before leaving the tome, if possible.
  • Epilogue: Unbroken Lines Epilogue: Unbroken Lines
    Epilogue: Unbroken Lines
Recalling the memory of heroes past, enchant nearby allies with formidable defenses.
Aegis.pngAegis (4s): Block the next incoming attack.
    Protection.pngProtection (5s): -33% Incoming Damage.
Stability.pngStability (5s): Cannot be knocked down, pushed back, pulled, launched, stunned, dazed, floated, sunk, feared or taunted.
    Unbroken Lines.pngUnbroken Lines (5s): 200 Toughness
    Radius.pngRadius: 600
is the best tool you have against direct damage. Don't leave the tome without using it at least once.

Update: Oct 13 2020 patch. This build has been performing not so well for a while, but with the ridiculous nerf to symbols, there is no more reason to play Sagebrand / Mender brand . any other Guardian brand that used to rely on symbols. 90% of guardian builds are F tier now. No longer viable.

Update Oct 1 patch - Sagebrand simply performs better in the current meta so downgrading power symbolbrand 1to 4 stars. Also, absolutely don't agree with the new choice of Stoic Demeanour over Loremaster. I understand the synergy you are going for here with a slow proc from disable and Binding Jeopardy. But taking Binding Jeopardy is also questionable since the Zeal trait line gives you tons of vulnerability already.

Update: This build got even better after the July 16 patch. Zeal is now a much better and reliable trait-line for sustained pressure.

Old Comment: This is the best FB build for Solo queue. For duo and tournament bunker is the best. Some utility slots can be changed according to personal preference or the enemy comp. However, you should absolutely take Archivist of Whispers. If you decide to not take Legendary Lore, then Weighty Terms is a much better choice than Stalwart Speed. Contrary to some comments, this build dishes out quite decent damage AND healing. You will end up with top healing stats 90% of match ups.

A very strong teamfighter, being one of the few sources of group stability in todays meta. Very good teamfight attrition. In my opinion this gets overshadowed by its condi variant for solo queue rankeds but it is far stronger in coordinated gameplay. Provides the ability to deal good damage with symbols while kiting to stay alive, which is a big advantage in comparison to sagebrand, which usually requires to go more aggressive to maximize burn stacks. Being frequently one of the main target, this builds ability to deal damage while playing defensive is one of the things that makes it shine in tournaments. Mantra of Truth and Save Yourselves is no longer optimal though and running Mantra of Lore to survive conditions and Stand Your Ground for group stability creates a setup that is, in my opinion, stronger in most scenarios. Also, Scepter adds a lot more damage to the build and should be main pick, though sword is viable.

Incredible strong build. It has everything u need. Not so hard to learn like can seems so. In teamfight do rly heavy dmg amd suport team in same time. During duels it has every skills u need to kill/survive/hold node. SW 2 perfect skill to pursuit/teleport instantly, many cc skills (it has pushing pulling taunting) , many control field skills, enough healing and condi cleanse skills... This is what i call Guardian.

First of all u need to learn how to deal with being a target and how to kite ppl (u have +25% to movement speed so its also fun).

Naru has been rocking this build recently. It looks very strong and it's very fun to watch. Based on what I've seen, I'm super surprised it isn't in the meta section.

This build is a blast! It has sustain, it has a decent amount of damage, it can be really helpful in teamfights or be sort of a roamer... just incredibly fun! Feels great playing it.

A fun build with a few tweaks of my own but other than that it's a really good build

I dont see the point.. Jack of all trades master of none. Lacks the damage to beat damage oriented builds and lacks the healing or utility to be truly supportive. I'd take core or bunker over this all day long.

Solid build, though I still prefer to run it with 5 mantras and a couple different traits :)

A ranked carry machine because of the combination of damage/sustain/support, even some CC. Very flexible build.
