Superb build for a casual playthrough. Very easy to play the build as it is only a matter of autoattacking or pressing 2 and 5. This build also offers a good damage mitigation feature by using your pet to tank for hard mobs all the time. Although this build has worse DPS than soulbeast, it's survivability is more paramount with less effort needed. If you are a casual willing to play ranger, this is your go-to build.

An excellent all-around build capable of casual open world play and event farming. A good starter for those interested in open world or ranger.

The most popular open world build for Ranger, but I wont recommend to use it in fractals/dungeons/raids. For meta events it can pull decent damage if you keep constantly switching between LB and GS rather than AFK with LB at the back. I would recommend to have Gazelle as 2nd pet so you can use it as CC tool specially that most of the time you won't switch from Jacaranda cause this build don't run any pet switching bounces.

Greatsword becomes the main powerhouse of this build but the Longbow is still the main weapon I stick with to maintain distance and ensuring survivability since rushing in with GS, while great, might cause problems during certain scenarios where sustaining survivability becomes an issue. Longbow's damage is subpar to GS but where it lacks in damage, it makes up for you staying alive. During Meta Events, best option would be LB on early start of Meta then go GS when Elites/Champs start jumping it since you want to get as much damage out as possible.

I have all professions and elite specs unlocked and still, I find myself back on GS/LB Power Ranger frequently. It’s competitive in PVP in the right hands and downright fun to level with if you don’t have any of the expansions. It’s a great build if you’re new or still learning the game.

One of the most popular new player builds, and for good reason. This build is easy to pick up, doesn't require any expansions, and can easily whittle down difficult champion enemies from range. Its main weaknesses are its lack of damage and reliance on pet tanking, which make it less ideal when DPS is important or there's lots of indiscriminate damage to avoid.

Basic pew pew ranger build, and a great build for leveling. Super easy to just send your pet in to tank for you while you ranged attack. Can also be improved with Soulbeast once at max level if you have PoF.

Excellent build, I used this one while leveling my Ranger. Could pretty much solo anything. Send the Bear in, pew pew from range, get in when the Bear has firm aggro. Rinse and repeat.

A brilliant build which allows me to change up my gameplay at a moments notice, running in rapid firing, change to greatsword and hack em to bits! or rain arrows down, swap, drop a pommel stike, auto slash, then a big finish bear chop, whilst Bronski bear (I'm new) mauls up the party. The fun just keeps coming.

For Ranger players without expansions, this is a good build with good burst and a lot of survivability thanks to Ranger having a pet to draw aggro. It's very forgiving, and it does a decent amount of damage.

I've been using Longbow/Greatsword (oh who am I kidding, it was mostly LB honestly) since level 1 on my own Ranger, and it is entirely as awesome as they say it is. The fact that so many of the LB skills have such a MASSIVE range on them (1500 distance on the AUTO, jesus) makes it a thousand times easier to avoid ever having to be in range of any nasty AoE bs, plus your auto attack actually gets STRONGER the farther away you are from your target. And it's not even a trait, it's just baseline built into the auto attack! Which works wonders with traits like "Lead The Wind", (shortened cooldowns on LB and Harpoon Gun skills as well as making your arrows PIERCE ought to sound promising) and "Far Sighted" (even MORE damage increase on LB arrows, and rising even higher while further than 600 distance from the target, which you almost always are, and there's always "Point Blank Shot" to keep the mobs at a good range from you just in case ;) ) In short, I love LB Ranger.

I use this basic build all the time and it is very versatile. The comment about point blank shot is very valid if you're in a group. This build kills stuff fast and if your careful you can take on quite a crowd and live to tell the tale. I do use a cat most of the time though, along with the brown bear. Very fast and fun build.

Excellent build for leveling, and really easy to play. I still use this when I'm boss training. But PLEASE take note of the caution about LB4, Point Blank Shot. If you're not solo, ONLY use it for its Crowd Control (CC) when you're fighting champs or better that have stability. It actually does LESS damage than auto-attack at long range (and the same at mid). Nothing frustrates a melee class more than burning their huge damage skill on a target right as a ranger pushes them out of range. Don't be that guy (or gal).
