Overview

Support Chrono is a boon support that provides enough Quickness Quickness and Alacrity Alacrity uptime for its party to clear encounters. This massively increases the group's damage and healing output due to faster cast times and lower cooldowns. In addition, it can increase group wide boon uptime through , and skip mechanics in fractals using , , , and .
Following various nerfs to its boon sharing capabilities Chronomancer is no longer mandatory in fractals, however it is still able to maintain Quickness and Alacrity uptime while doing more DPS than ever.
For a variant of this build specialized for no-healer comps see Chronomancer - Boon Support Healer.
This guide is focused on fractals. For the raid version see Chronomancer - Utility Boon Support.

  • In extremely short fights, it's possible to replace your offhand weapon with a Greatsword to push out more burst damage. This is not recommended unless you're in a highly experienced static.

Slot Changes

Healing Skills

  • can be taken in low pressure fights for higher personal DPS. If you run this make sure your group can maintain uptime as dropping below 90% will be a much larger DPS loss.

Utility Skills

As fractal fights are often very short, you have some leeway to replace your boon-sharing skills with various utility skills. If needed, you can swap out and fill quickness with .
  • if reflects are needed, particularly useful on the elemental in the Snowblind fractal.
  • to provides aegis and stability to your group.
  • if boon removal is needed.
  • if you need to deal with both boons and conditions.
  • , , and for teleport skips.

Elite Skills

  • provides faster CC than , useful if timing is extremely important (e.g. interrupting CM Ensolyss's slam).
  • if the CC from or is not required. If you swapped out this skill is mandatory.
  • for stealth skips (combined with ).

Specializations

Dueling/Domination is the standard trait setup for fractals. It grants strong DPS, as well as good CC which is enhanced by .

Variants

  • if boonstrip is required.
  • if you don't require the additional CC from .
  • if your group needs some extra minor healing.

  • You can replace Domination with Inspiration if your group needs aegis from to prevent incoming damage, however you lose a significant amount of personal DPS and CC with this swap.

Variants (Inspiration)

  • if you're using a focus offhand
  • if the reflects from are an issue.

Equipment

There are many variations of gear for Chronomancer and some of them can be difficult to acquire, however they all share a common goal in their stat choices which is to reach enough boon duration to maintain sufficient boons for their group. The required boon duration will depend on the skill of you and your group, which is particularly relevant in fractals as skilled groups can often kill or phase bosses extremely quickly, allowing their Chronomancers to maintain Quickness and Alacrity with very low amounts of boon duration.
Remember to get a sword, focus, and shield offhand.

Standard Variant

The suggested gear here provides you with enough boon duration (65%) to comfortable sustain boons on your group, without trading off too much damage. Theoretically you can drop to as low as 25% boon duration wearing full berserker gear to gain extra personal DPS while still maintaining boons, however that is not recommended unless you are very confident that mistakes won't occur. With this 65% boon duration setup you may need to use to keep up quickness if encounters are extending past ~55 seconds in length.
The following gear assumes you're not able to use any Infusions to gain extra concentration. If you can use infusions, you can use dT's gear optimizer to decide what combination of gear will be best for you to use. Note that it assumes you will be using the buffs from your Fractal Potions with 150 Agony Resistance, so if you don't regularly use fractal potions you will need to gain extra concentration from your gear.

Max Boon Duration Variant

If you're running with a group from LFG where you can't be sure of player skill, or with a generally inexperienced group you may want to run 100% boon duration to ensure boons stay up even with things being less than ideal. In those suggestions, the following gear setup is suggested. Once again, note that it assumes you will be using the buffs from your Fractal Potions with 150 Agony Resistance, so if you don't regularly use fractal potions you will need to gain extra concentration from your gear.

  • can be used if your group doesn't need the fury from Pack Runes. Note that if you're running scholar runes you'll likely want to pick up extra boon duration from your gear as you lose 15% swapping from Pack to Scholar.

Usage

See Chronomancer - Utility Boon Support for general usage information.

Fractals-Specific Tips

  • Fractal fights don't last as long as raids, so making sure you have a good opening burst is very important. You want to get Quickness and Alacrity onto your party as soon as possible, then fire off your high damage skills like and !
  • Remember that also makes you teleport to your original location when it ends. Be wary of your positioning when using it. Abort it if it's going to kill you on the return teleport (e.g. teleporting you off the platform on Arkk).
  • On fights where CC is important, like MAMA, you should always save to cast rather than boon-sharing.

UPDATE Post July 18th patch - Chrono has already been struggling in FOTM, but the latest nerfs obliterated support chrono's viability in FOTM. Power chrono is still good, but for boon/support Firebrigade is now the way to go.

OLD RATING:Still viable, but not meta anymore. Goof for statics etc, but in a pug scenario taking a FB even without an alacrigade, will make for a smoother run.

Absolutely loving this build. Easy to obtain the full optimal set in just a few short days, and extremely effective both in and out of Fractals. Highly recommended for any Mesmer user, and makes good use out of the new ''Serpentine Jewels''. Rotation takes practice but that is to be expected with any build. 5 stars from me. Literally cannot imagine a 5 man group without this in any PvE content.

Chrono is the only class that can provide "permanent" uptime on both quickness and alacrity, ensuring it will always have a place in the meta. It also deals pretty good dps and brings a lot of useful cheese and skips.

Troupe gave this build 5 stars January 2019

Still able to keep up Quickness and Alacrity, and thanks to Diviners gear and the new Signet of Inspiration is able to keep up more personal DPS than ever before while doing so. While not absolutely compulsory any more, boon chrono isn't going away completely anytime soon and is a valuable member in almost all groups.

Screaming gave this build 4 stars January 2019

Still more than viable contrary to ratings below (just look at what pugs ask for, or half the logs on the leaderboards for frac CMs on raidar for example), it just can't share any boons that aren't Alacrity/Quickness/Aegis anymore. The new Signet of Inspiration is much more powerful than you think, extending boons for 5 secs WITHOUT any boon duration at all, allowing a support Chrono to do actual DPS again, which is huge.

Chrono no longer being mandatory does not mean it is dead. It is still more than viable, and still a very good pick for a support class that meshes well with a lot of other builds. You just can't faceroll and expect to have boons any more. Make sure people stay in your wells, make sure not to waste Signet of Inspiration before wells expire, and make sure that your DPS understands you can't carry them on CC any more.
