Usage

General

  • Blocking attacks removes conditions via Hunter's Fortification.png Hunter's Fortification, making Shield of Courage.png Shield of Courage one of the build's strognest condition cleanses. Blocking also applies Burning Burning.
  • The entire build relies on a single condition (Burning) for applying pressure. Make sure to cover larger stacks with Bleeding and Poision from your sigils which you can trigger by swapping weapons in melee range.
  • Traps Daze Daze Slow targets and your healing skill inflicts AoE burning around you upon activation via

    (1): +25 Condition Damage (2): +10% Burning Duration (3): +50 Condition Damage (4): +20% Burning Duration (5): +100 Condition Damage (6): +20% Burning Duration; +10% maximum health.
. For these reasons always attempt to heal close to the target.
  • In a 1v1 scenario vs Necromancers consider using Renewed Focus.png Renewed Focus offensively - many of their builds only have access to condition transfers but not cleanses, which means if you're Invulnerable they have no means of getting rid of the Burning.
  • While in general it's better not to use Spear of Justice.png Spear of Justice as much of the build's damage comes from its passive effect, there are a few exceptions:
    • Securing a kill. Once you kill a player, the skill will be refreshed. In this case try to pull enemies through Purging Flames.png Purging Flames with 24px Hunter's Verdict for extra stacks if it's not on CD.
    • Right before activating Renewed Focus.png Renewed Focus, as it'll reset the CD on all Virtues.
    • Interrupting a stomp or a revive (only if there's no other way).

Applying Pressure

  • For that the entire build relies on stacking a single condition (Burning), covered by Vulnerability and Cripple.
  • Purging Flames.png Purging Flames adds 3 stacks of burning on activation and then again every single time an enemy walks through it. These burn stacks are incredibly long and therefore should be used after the enemy wasted cleanses. It's also a great defensive skill and provides great party utility in the form of AoE condition cleansing.
  • Wait for enemies to waste their cleanses before bursting them in teamfights, as you don't really have many options to cover Burn stacks with.
  • Litany of Wrath.png Litany of Wrath is a near-instant cast healing skill which procs AoE burning from

, try to hit as many targets as possible upon activation. This also means that your healing skills can be part of your burst combo.

Poor and outdated build. This may serve well in low ranked games, but doesn't do well in Plat+. Burn DH is easily countered, as many players will have utilities / cleansing sigils to deal with single target condition builds. This build also struggles with mobility.

This build would be better using the DH trait line for a bump in defense/condi clear. In addition I would run Smite Condition for a little more Condi cleanse, as well as "Receive the Light" for the same reason.

I guess it has something to do with the element of surprise, people forgot how to play against a condi guard (or in this case, DH) which is why not many people pay attention to Purging Flames, quickly ending up killing themselves. Scrapper, Chronomancer or Tempest can easily counter it, but only if they know what they're up against.

That being said it's a fairly solid build for ranked that can punish mistakes really hard by building up 3k+ burn ticks almost instantly.

Nailed it. This is almost the exact build I've been running for a DH burn build as well (though I would swap out one of the sigils on the Scepter/Torch weaponset for Smoldering since you'll have lots of Zealot's Flames going off). At the moment, I'd definitely consider Smite Condition to be better than contemplation of purity. Dragonhunter gives a lot of additional defensive and offensive tools to the burn guardian toolkit. The sustain is very good and the direct damage pressure is decent as well. Above all though, Burn Guardian's namesake, their burns, gives intense offensive pressure that absolutely must be responded to with condition clears or they'll down anyone in seconds.

That being said, I've never feel comfortable giving any burn guardian build a rating better than good, even I feel this is the best iteration of it yet. Rapid single condition clears are something almost every meta build has in spades at the moment, which completely negate the huge burst Burn Guardian is capable of. In this regard, the best way to play Burn Guardian becomes a bruiser where you space out your burns to do DPS instead of burst since the burst is so frequently countered. When played like this, Burn Guardian is still a good class but is slightly outshone in a bruiser roll by any of the other meta power DH builds.

But on the rare occasion, Burn Guardian can down an entire enemy team faster than any other build in the game.

I used this build all PvP season 1 and really enjoyed it for how quickly I could melt my opponents. I thought it was fun to play and different from other condition builds I've run because it packs a heavy punch. However, I found a couple of issues: 1. lots of condi cleanse. People have come to expect lots of condition damage from their opponents and come prepared to cleanse. This build does not have a lot more than burst/burn going for it, which is great against unprepared people. 2. no mobility. At some point, I switched my elite skill to 'feel my wrath' and really benefited from the swiftness in getting to points more quickly and escaping persistent opponents. My last issue with this is that I think the virtues line should have 'supreme justice' traited instead of 'absolute resolution' for added burning pressure and 'permeating wrath' instead of 'indomitable courage'. All in all, a good build but I'm not wholly convinced by it.

A gimmicky build that destroys those that aren't paying attention or just mashing condition cleanse whenever one pops up. You'll have a harder time against those that do understand the build and will have the need to space out burn stacks or bait out condition cleanses.

Its okay, I guess. There is too many condi removal to hard counter this build which stops it from being effective.
