Weapons

  • Focus over Shield with

  • Some Guardians prefer using Sword instead of Mace especially on the Battle of Kyhlo in case they get knocked off the capture point at the Clocktower as this way they won't have to walk around and can potentially prevent a decap.

Usage

General Keep in mind that your role as a bunker isn't just to keep yourself alive - in fact you should keep most of your supportive skills for your allies in case they need to be healed, cleansed of conditions or protected by boons. You should be the first in line to res them as well.

  • Your primary job is Team Support and thus you should focus on being in the center of team fights. Rotate to where the fight is.

Shouts

  • All of your shouts remove two conditions with the combination of
    and

    Book.pngNumber of Targets: 5
    Range.pngRange: 600
isn't just a decent buff to movement speed, with the AoE Aegis Aegis it can be used to disrupt enemy burst and many of your traits synergize well with Aegis.
  • "Hold the Line!" "Hold the Line!"
    35Recharge.png
    "Hold the Line!"
Shout. Grant protection and regeneration to allies.

because of the AoE Stability Stability is the most important of the utility slot shouts. Primarily use it to secure stomp/res attempts, but it's also a great tool against mass CC such as

Counters

  • Team comps that rely heavily on rotations counters this build; the Bunker guard is great for teamfights but has slow movement and is not that effective in 1v1 or 2v2 situation, it really starts to shine at 3v3 and above.

This still has its moments post-HoT (AoE quickness, cleansing, blocks, and most importantly Stability), but it just not in the same tier as chrono/tempest/druid bunker specs.

There's no denying that this build is the single best support build in the game right now for PvP. However, best here is only relative. I believe it sacrifices way too much offense and mobility for that support, while other builds attain comparable sustain and support while still having fantastic mobility and respectable damage, namely D/D elementalist. Simply put, a well played D/D elementalist has comparable survivability while outputing much more damage and is much more mobile, and by combining a bruiser role with the sustain element, makes traditional dedicated bunkers obsolete in my opinion.

Power creep has also made it harder for this build to bunker as well as it used to. Mesmers shut it down pretty fast and with adequate lockdown, allows the bunker to be focused down even in team fights due to its low HP and susceptibility to conditions because of the low HP. Additionally, while this build is in no way countered by necromancers, the rise in the incident use of them and their boon stripping abilities has made it harder to run boon heavy builds, especially in 1v1 situations.

Of course, this build isn't bad. It is probably the best build a guardian can run at this moment. The only reason this vote is mostly negative is to justify a shift down from "Great" to "Good". The thing is, the bunker role has become obsolete with such emphasis on rotation and mobility, and simply gives up too much for a gain of too little.

best support build with great rezz potential (stability+ quickness + kb bubble) + condi clear. This build is made for teamfights and gives your team a great advantage at 3v3+
