Usage

Meditation Guard is a true double-edged sword, a prime example of risk/reward gameplay because most of your (otherwise defensive) abilities can be powerful additions to your burst damage - thus leaving you significantly vulnerable later.

Setting up your burst/devastating opening attack:

  • gives you 7% increased damage against Burning targets, people tend to activate
Virtue of Justice Virtue of Justice
    25Recharge.png
    Virtue of Justice
Virtue: Burn foes every few attack.
Activate: You and your allies inflict burning on the next attack.
    Burn.pngBurning (passive effect) (2s): 264 Damage
    Burn.pngBurning (active effect) (4s): 524 Damage
    Book.pngNumber of Targets: 5
Book.pngNumber of Attacks to Trigger: 5
    Radius.pngRadius: 600
before the burst so it will apply a longer Burning to your enemy on the first hit - but you will lose damage-over-time by the lack of it's passive effect.
  • Before switching to Greatsword you can use
Shield of Wrath Shield of Wrath
    36Recharge.png
    Shield of Wrath
Create a shield to block next three attacks. If the shield is not destroyed, it explodes and damages nearby foes.
    Damage.pngDamage: 609
Shield of Wrath.png3Shield of Wrath (4s): Block attacks. Explodes when it ends.
    Book.pngNumber of Targets: 5
    Radius.pngRadius: 240
    Combo.pngCombo Finisher: Blast
, if the blocks don't expire before its duration runs out, it will explode in an AoE that can deal ~5k dmg - but this means you gave up a skill on a 36 sec cd that can be used to block while you are stunned.
  • Optional: If you are within range and still on Scepter/Focus, you can immobilize your target with
Chains of Light Chains of Light
    ½Activation.png
    20Recharge.png
    Chains of Light
Immobilize and make your foe vulnerable with ethereal chains.
    Damage.pngDamage: 61
    Immobilize.pngImmobilize (2s): Unable to move.
    Vulnerability.png3Vulnerability (6s): 3% Incoming Damage
    Range.pngRange: 900
so they can't dodge your incoming burst (but they will notice you and the power of surprise is gone plus they might quickly get rid of your Aegis by just 1 hit before you teleport which results in a 20% damage drop)
  • After done with the previous steps, you can begin dealing damage: use GS's

    Book.pngNumber of Targets: 5
    Radius.pngRadius: 240
    Stun-Break.pngBreaks stun
    Range.pngRange: 1,200
-> this way you can make a devastating opening from 1,200 range, gain ~5 seconds of Fury (you get it after using a meditation), to increase your damage even further, wait until any condition is applied to you and immediately use

    Damage.pngDamage with Conditions: 463
    Book.pngNumber of Targets: 5
    Radius.pngRadius: 360
which deals increased damage if you have a condition - this attack chain, especially if Shield of Wrath explodes, can be a dps bomb, forcing many enemies to disengage if used in a teamfight especially when they are trying to stomp or res and are balled up - but with this, you've already used up 2 of your Meditations - if you had max hp before/during the attack chain, you wasted 4k healing and a condition removal, not to mention your teleport which was a stunbreaker.
  • After a chain like this, you blew most of your defensive CDs and will likely need to disengage a bit,
Leap of Faith Leap of Faith

Blind.pngBlindness (3s): Next outgoing attack misses.
    Book.pngNumber of Targets: 5
    Combo.pngCombo Finisher: Leap
    Range.pngRange: 600
can help you with this, but chances are, you did a pretty big damage to your enemies, and if they are the ones who must disengage, keep pushing with your GS attacks or stop them with Scepter's
Chains of Light Chains of Light
    ½Activation.png
    20Recharge.png
    Chains of Light
Immobilize and make your foe vulnerable with ethereal chains.
    Damage.pngDamage: 61
    Immobilize.pngImmobilize (2s): Unable to move.
    Vulnerability.png3Vulnerability (6s): 3% Incoming Damage
    Range.pngRange: 900
    from running away.

Always ask for a target in the teamfight you are heading to - you can press T to take the target and then use

Meditation. Teleport to your target and burn nearby foes.

Burn.png3Burning (3s): 1,179 Damage

Radius.pngRadius: 240

- this lets you make shortcuts, for example teleporting up to midpoint on Battle of Khylo from outside of the building - not to mention the entirely unexpected burst.

Reached legendary on my non-HoT alt only using this and condi nec. One of the better vanilla specs and meditations recieved a couple of buffs recently. Does really well against reapers which is quite important when it comes to climbing.

Probably won't be seen at any tournaments but it's still a really decent build for ranked especially for f2p players.

Definitly great against heavy condition oriented matchup such as necros and condi mesmer. Awesome substain with good burst damage, as a lot of kiting possibilities

Good but not great. If you own HoT, you would better served playing the Dragon Hunter Specialization.

High damage with good sustain. Just got to be careful of bursts and focus fire on you since you have less than 20k health. Dagger Ele's will be a problem and any well timed counters to your bursts.

I use Litany of Wrath to use bursts to heal and Runes of the Traveler for speed. Seems easier to chase down fleeing foes than other professions thanks to teleport, immobilize, and condi cleanse.

Shield of Wrath and Virtue of Courage make it nearly impossible to stop you from stomping or rezzing people. Better than stealth if AoE is involved.

Bursts can be combined with retaliation, shattered aegis, and burning to put pressure on people that are fighting back. Just takes timing to be effective.

I run this build with Hammer and have been since I first started playing Guild Wars 2. I also change the traits so that I get Glacial Hammer. This is all preference and I do not consider it better, but it does suit my playstyle. That being said, this build is near perfect and is my go-to for being a competitive Guardian. Bunker Guardian is too reliant on teammates while Burning Burst Guardian is too frail. This meets them in the middle. With plenty of sustain, all you really have to do is sit in the teamfight and cleanse condis in order to do your job. Great for public matchmaking.
