Overview

This is a high damage, melee oriented Soulbeast build, featuring good sustain, high mobility, and excellent team support. allows for incredibly high burst damage through and Smoke Assault Smoke Assault. Sword and Greatsword offer great evasion and burst capabilities that are enhanced in beast mode, but requires smart play and positioning. Stances offer team condition cleansing, stability, and boonshare. Juvenile Jaraconda is your sustain pet, offering two healing skills and AoE resistance, as well as great downed control through two Call Lightning's. Juvenile Smokescale is your DPS/Utility pet, offering additional evasion, cc, and damage as well as stealth.

Playstyle

  • This build plays similar to the Holosmith, with some key differences. You have greater sustain, more evasion, better single target burst, and far better team support at the cost of vulnerability to ganks, less AoE damage and more infrequent single target bursting due to One Wolf Pack's recharge time. Nonetheless, even when the skill is on cooldown, you have a number of options at your disposal to deal significant damage. Your role is variable, but focuses on +1ing and assisting in team fights. Your ability to 1v1 on point depends on the target. Scourges, if not bursted down immediately, are a difficult opponent to stay on point with, but yet not impossible due to your sources of evasion and frequent cleansing. Spellbreakers are potent enemies, and require you to play very carefully against them as to not trigger Full Counter with either your attacks or those of your pets. If on point fighting proves difficult at any point, you have a number of tools to disengage and heal up with.
  • Enter fights with shared with your pet Smokescale. The Smokescale will use his skill Smoke Assault when within ~600 range of an enemy, adding to your burst. Use Hunter's Call, followed by Beastmode Smoke Assault and to quickly finish enemies. Certain enemies, such as Holosmiths and Spellbreakers, usually carry traits which trigger invulnerability. One Wolf Pack has a long duration (12 seconds), and as such, certain skills which may assist in your burst can be delayed until their invulnerability has expired.
  • if used in Beastmode will make your attacks unblockable for four seconds. Consider this when bursting targets with aegis or blocks, such as Guardians.
  • This build has a lot of utility and the mobility needed to quickly travel around the map. Assist your teammates wherever you are needed. You have the tools to burst targets, as well as support allies. Outside of One Wolf Pack, always try to share your stances with teammates.
  • When facing pressure, use / , as well as , to disengage. Both these skills, as well as Call of the Wild, can be used to give you stealth through Smoke Cloud.
  • is the third auto-attack on the greatsword. It can be used up to three times in a row with the following combo. Land the first two skills of your auto-attack chain on an enemy. Use power stab, but before the skill can finish, either dodge, or if you cannot dodge, stow your weapon to ensure the skill does not hit a target. Use power stab a second time, allowing it to finish, but ensure that it does not hit a target, and then use it a third time, preferably hitting a target. This combo offers over three seconds of evasion with each auto-attack sequence.
  • Swapping pets grants you Superspeed Superspeed and Quickness Quickness. Use this to enhance bursts or disengage more easily.
  • If an enemy is downed and a stomp would be dangerous, enter Beastmode and use Call Lightning on the target, then exit Beastmode and have your Jaraconda use Call Lightning. This will add great downed pressure to a target.
  • Try saving for when is off cooldown. Doing so significantly lengthens the duration of stability. In addition, entering beastmode when your pet has stability will grant you five seconds of it thanks to .
  • Entering Beastmode with the Jacaranda will increase your outgoing healing by 25%, increasing the healing granted from .
  • Maul followed by is also a prominent, though difficult to land, burst combo. Consider using skills such as or Takedown to help it land.
  • offers great rezz capability. Also consider using Call of the Wild to blast finish your Smokescale's Smoke Field to prevent stomps on downed allies.
  • Entering Beastmode and using Smoke Assault can help you stick to slippery targets, such as Thieves and Mesmers. Try doing this in anticipation of a teleport.
  • Sic 'Em is sometimes better saved on targets who would otherwise stealth when bursted. Use it wisely.

Lol soulbeast is like this says a burst spec that can almost x2 the dmg of core power ranger and also fixes the problem of core(the whole reason core was unviable) that you can still have access to you pet. So what im saying is yes... soulbeast is meant to be great burst, but really. Melee only!! Why would you ever play 'RANGER' as a melee only spec no wonder y these ppl dont like soulbeast this build has to be a meme 1.) sw/wh has some burst but not nearly as high as LB 2.) look at the traits selected ex.) you take the pet rez instead of the damage per boon, soulbeast isnt sustain lol its supposed to be damage, in conclusion this build isnt even spec'd intelligently or for its actual purpose, it looks glued together And if this is all meta-battle can do of course soulbeast will seem dead and all the more ignorant ppl will never play it, when most of the top teir ranger players i know will tell you that its not bad at all.

Soulbeast is a pointless, useless spec. Weak traits, weak skills, and doesn't bring anything that Druid or even core ranger wouldn't do better. There is no reason to play it other than fun.

I have played a build just like this in PvP and it is really fun, maybe not as good as a holosmith but it's good in it's own way. Really One Wolf Pack is kind of a broken skill because it let's you burst for so much damage but hey since it's on ranger I guess no one really cares.

it's fun for a change people are not used to it and get surprised by it quite often, especially with the shared wolf stance you can nearly one shot people if your team focus on the same target. only change i made is to take protect me for 1 more break stun on cc heavy comp

Quite a capable build in the right hands. Sustain is good, with plenty of evades, respectable cleanse, and a high uptime of protection. Only issue is the lack of invulns, but stealthing up with the smokescale can help alleviate this. Brings valuable boons to teamfights too, and some healing.

However, this is a hard build to pick up and play if you aren't already used to playing as a ranger, especially if you don't play melee classes either. You will feel weak until you've practiced a lot and nailed down proper offensive and defensive rotations. But once you do so, you will feel immensely rewarded when you see success as an underdog spec.

yeah not seeing it. this build has almost no sustain normally, the lack of wilderniss surival affects the protection releated heals u could get from dodging, your endurance regenration, the only condi clear u have is on your heal skill and jacaranda beast mode ability which is a death sentence given scourges and mirages are running around u are a melee build. the lack of stunbreakrs+stabs will make u an even easier pick off for thiefs. the lack of damage does not justify your survivability. you are a build with low survivability, low condi, cleanse, lack of stunbreaks and yet u take pallading amulet. if this build was natturally tanky i could see a possibility for palladins amulet bieng a thing. honestly the might stacking u could potentially make from soul beast mode will be null and void since u will mainly be swinging around a gs which most classes can easily defend against.

soulbeast so far seems to only work for a pure damage spec, be it condi or dps, but any support related ability is really served for large groups or pve. in pvp the stances lack an identity to be ample support.

this is not it sadly.

Made an account just to say how much I love this build especially in team fights, my only change I made was using beastly warden in T3 of BM, keeping them auto attack locked in on me while I evade and continue to burst! Great closing ability between GS 3 and beast mode f2. Plenty of sustain for you and your team, I like the paladins too because you want to be right up in the action to share your stances for optimal team fights. Mobile around the map, second imo in +1ing a fight to thief. Now if only we could get pet swaps while in beastmode , would make it op with the Jacaranda sustain.
