Maybe it never coalesced into something brilliant. Maybe it never made it off the ground floor. Maybe we based our better ideas off of it. Basic builds are anywhere from downright bad to just shy of being good enough to showcase. These builds share the widest ratings and can lead to wildly differing levels of success.

Overview

The thief is an extremely FUN class to play, but can be very "squishy" in both PvE and PvP. I have devised a spec that helps keep you free from damage, while you deliver it in droves. This page will focus on the PvP side, and explain the MINOR changes for PvE at the end of the Usage section.

Sigil Variants

If you like one better - go with it. But cleansing is a weakness in the class (aside from Infiltrator's Return and Shadowstep and Hide in the Shadows), so Sigil of Purity helps. And since Stealing and Head Shot daze, the increased stun duration is useful.

  • Everything you do, essentially - blinds. You steal, you stealth, so you blind. You take a hit greater that 10% of your health, you stealth so - you blind. If you fall below 25% health, you stealth - you blind. You heal yourself, you stealth - you blind. You use

    comes into play - it allows you to trick your enemy into thinking the summoned thief is you - with any luck they will blow all their high damage cool downs. Need another bonus? Every time you stealth you get 2 stacks of Might. Want More? While you are stealthed you take 50% less damage.
  • To play this build effectively watch your enemy, watch the Blind - and don't just run in blindly yourself. Time your stealths and their attacks. Attack with full force while they are blind or dazed - vanish when they are not. Remember that your first hit on auto attack with your sword while stealthed also blinds - as does your #5 with your pistol (without being stealthed). Use

  • The changes for PvE are minimal. I like to switch from the dual Pistols to the Shortbow for ranged AoE. I still like S/D for the cleanses and blind/stealth. I'll also switch out #9 for

    or whatever utility is situationally useful. I also swap out Bountiful Theft for Thrill of the Crime, since boon stealing does little in PvE. I prefer the Assassin's gear over Berserker's for the extra crit chance - but it's not a big difference either way. I like Rune of the Eagle for it's damage increase and crit increase. I have also dabbled with using Rampager's since the Shortbow and many of the stolen abilities use conditions - but I did not feel it was enough of an increase to warrant the loss of critical damage (ferocity).
