Guardian - Bunker

Overview

This guide was made to improve your Bunker Guard gameplay. It contains detailed information and tips for all your weapon skills, utilities, traits, and their recommended usage as well as tips to help you support your allies and survive in team fights. The last section of this guide gives you a quick overview over the professions and their current builds, how to fight them as well as the animations of the skills you should avoid.

Role

The main Role of a Bunker Guardian is to support his allies by cleansing condition, giving out Boons and Heals, securing stomps and reviving allies. Given to the tanky nature of this build it is used to hold points and stall multiple enemies till reinforcement comes. This Build is meant to be a team support, thats why you should always rotate to be in the teamfight

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Currently the best boon support
  • Great support via cleansing conditions
  • One of the few builds that can give out AoE stability
  • Shines in 3v3 and above, this build is made to win Teamfights
  • One of the best builds to secure stomps and rezzes
  • Great point holding and damage mitigating capabilities
  • Strong in 2v3 or 2v4 together with another tanky ally (ele/shoutbow)

Cons

  • Weak in 1v1 scenarios. While you are able to hold most 1v1s for a long time, you will mostly not win it
  • 2v2 situations are often just a “glorified” 1v2 because you deal nearly no dmg at all
  • Slow, easily outrotated
  • Heavily relies on long cooldowns. Once they are out you will be an easy target

Staff is the more support orientated weapon. You can give out good heals to allies but it also synergizes really good with altruistic healing to heal yourself

Really good heal for allies but it takes some practice to aim it properly as the orb goes where you look with your camera (if you have no target). This means you need to change your camera angle to be on ground level in order to not shoot the orb into the ground. The orb heals 511 hp if it passes through allies, the detonation heals 1508 hp. You can either use it in a selfish way and instantly explode to heal yourself, or aim it at allies, let it pass through them and then detonate for a total of 2019 healing. Detonating the orb makes the skill go on 12s cd, not detonating gives it a 3s cd. This is why you want to hit multiple allies with the detonation to make it worth the cd.

for 15 stacks. As support, it gives out 2.7k heal at the end of the cast so make sure you use it in range of your allies. If you are low yourself its best to go out of line of sight to prevent you from getting damaged or interrupted because this skill roots you in place. The heal you get scales with the allies around you because of Altruistic Healing. Its 2,7k base health + 12 (might) x 81(altruistic healing) x allies (you count as an ally yourself), so you can heal yourself up to 7560 hp. As you want to save Shelter for the enemies burst, if you get low on hp it’s best to leave the point and empower near your allies (600 range) and/or behind an objective.

Line of Warding is another great skill that you can be used in many scenarios. You can use it to peel for allies by placing the line of warding near them - they can run through it and the wall prevents enemies (without Stability Stability) to follow them. Place this wall on choke points to prevent enemies from passing. You can secure decaps/caps or save allies/yourself. It's overall a great control utility if used right. The direction of the wall depends on the direction your character is facing at the end of the cast. This wall can also be used to interrupt skills (as it is also unblockable). To interrupt standing/stomping/rezzing enemies you need to place it on the back of their feet. You will find some really good spots to place to wall below in the kiting section of this guide. The wall is also a light combo field.

Bounces between allies and foes giving out Regeneration Regeneration and Blind Blind. This skills is your go-to Condition cleansing for yourself, can be used to clear Poison Poison before healing. Try to use it in meele range to make sure it hits and bounces back to you, this way you can clear 2 conditions without wasting a shout. The regeneration also helps you sustain. This skill is also good to blind important skills of the enemy and therefore avoiding a lot of dmg. A less selfish use for this skill is to blinding enemies chasing allies and removing conditions from them.

AoE knockback and heal. You can eigther use it to get decaps/fullcaps or to control enemies. This can give you or allies breathing room and therefore it's a great utility to peel with. The Shield also blocks projectiles. Use the Knockback shortly before an enemy goes into downstate to put the enemy guard out of postion. Also great to interrupt key skills like guard empower or the heal abilities of your enemy. Detonating the Shield gives out a 1540 AoE heal.

The 2 seconds of blocking can prevent a lot more dmg than other heals could out heal. Quick Tips

  • Guardian is all about cooldown management. Guard compared to other classes has fairly high cds, so you need to save skill and dont waste them. A Guardian relies on preventing dmg with blocks and protection. If you have no cooldowns left, you can die quickly due to the low base health pool of a guardian.
  • Dont backpeddle. You can use free camera or strafe. This way you move faster while still going into the direction you want to go.

Rezz/Stomp

  • Not every Rezz attempt is worth going for. Your team can get a lot of pressure and dmg from trying to rezz and ally. It may even lead to your whole team dying. Also you waste a lot of defesive cooldowns. Only go for a rezz if you think you will get it, and consider if it is worth the effort!
  • Watch the healthbars of your allies and call out that they could go down before they actually drop so your team can position themselves for the rezz. Also Say if you have Stability Stability available.
  • Same goes for Stomps. Your team can be ready to cleave and in case you have no "safe/stability" stomp available call it before the enemy goes down so another member of your team can secure the stomp
  • Remove Poison Poison before you revive. Poison reduces heal by 33% and therefor makes it harder for your team to rezz. The longer you need the more dmg will your entire team get in the progress

Bunkering

  • No build can stand on point forever. Make sure you leave the point from time to time while an ally is on it. You can regenerate a bit and let your cooldowns come up again.
  • Positioning is really important. Try do be on the edge of points to avoid AoE damage. Do not stand directly near your allies to prevent eating AoE dmg that wasnt meant to hit you.
  • If you go low, leave the point and go behind an objective/LoS. You dont need to use your heal to heal up. Use empower at a save spot(LoS) so you wont eat dmg or get interrrupted. This way you can save your heal/block for when you need to prevent huge amounts of dmg/burst
  • If you are out of dodges you can use weaponswap.
