Bringing builds forward. Can I start moving builds into the meta phase. We have about 10 builds that are in no need for discussion they are just meta. as far as the others we leave them there till the site receives more views and people can start voting on them.

Something about the PvE build structure feel un-unified. I think maybe what's throwing me off is that it starts with skills, then some variants, then traits, then variants, then weapons, then variants, then armor, then variants, etc. Would I be ruffling feathers if I move stuff around on the Elementalist - S/D LH 0/4/5/5/0 page to come up with a structure that feels more fluid for PvE builds? --DEKeyz2Chaos (talk) 20:57, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Food[edit]

Hey do you think we should add the foods. Like we have for skills. Also is this the proper way of linking sigils outside of the weapons section.

Just wondering if this was intended to be this way. I kinda just tried it when I made my first build and it worked and I just went with it. If this isn't the right way what is?

You can use Gw2skill for sigil/food/runes/skills although I went ahead and created separate templates such as Gw2sigil/Gw2food/Gw2rune that can be used just like Gw2skill. Btw, I will be replying to your email over the coming day, I am traveling today and will most likely be unavailable during that time.

Requesting deletion[edit]

I've created the template Template:Delete. Simply add {{delete|reason for deletion}} to the top of any page you wish to request be deleted, and the template will add a little box to the top of the page and add the page to Category:Candidates for deletion which will list all of the pages that are candidates for deletion.--TV Thief Icon.jpgTahiriVeila(talk) 02:50, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

New Main Page look[edit]

Why are you trying to avoid the purple for the Pvp section? :P It fits and looks a lot better than the current light-red. Btw I think you should use the same colors (yours are too light, stronger colors look better) and format as Chase posted (I liked the bigger icons next to the section names as well as them not being part of the table, pesonally). Best would be to take your sections of the tables you've posted and the entire look of Chase's. Also, sPvP is still a pointless section. Nobody makes builds for sPvP. Conquest should be there only, or if you need a second category to make it look better, I'm still saying we should add "Unreleased gamemode" with a lock icon next to it :p --Hanz (talk) 13:01, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

I agree conquest is the best choice for PvP. I'm not sure the term is recognized though. Perhaps just have "All PvP Builds" as the only category there. Obviously I agree the purple makes most sense ;) -- What would "unreleased gamemode" be? Like Deathmatch? For that new map I guess Chase (talk) 13:41, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Unreleased gamemode simply stands for a gamemode yet to be released - they've promised like a year ago that they are working on those so it would be a placeholder, and an image of a lock would symbolize that this section is still locked. being the only gamemode, conquest is a pretty recognized term, and with no other categories you can browse nobody could get lost. The new map is a joke.. the entire community wanted an arena style PvP mode, but it was too complicated for the dev team to understand - so they've implemented an FPS-like zergy chaos with respawns that nobody wanted, that's why the number of players on those maps is 0 on EU, can't speak for NA. --Hanz (talk) 14:05, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
When I create changes on the website I try to make them as userfriendly as possible. The only problem that I'm having with the idea of removing sPvP and introducing "Conquest" is that it might raise questions such as "Is this website up to date?", "Where is the sPvP/tPvP secion?" etc. Feel free to give me your point of view here besides that there is no need of a sPvP section due to the fact that sPvP/tPvP uses pretty much the same builds. Btw, I am trying to avoid the purple color since the "Meta" tag is using it but it looks like we will be using purple color together with the suggested layout.--Galaxian (talk) 16:46, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Your're the best! ^^ Yeah I guess "sPvP" won't hurt anyone anyways. Bit off-topic but I've consulted (or attempted to) 3 WvW guild leaders, 1 was not online in the last week so couldn't respond yet, 1 posted the site and it's "recruitment" on their global-WvW forum but seems like nobody wants to edit currently, and 1 is interested but may have time issues. I will ask the later one to at least name the builds if he can't upload them and then I may do it myself. Also, as the PvP section already has 30 builds, I think that part might be announced within 2 weeks on reddit and the official forum if you agree - bringing in crowds for active use should spark interest in some WvW and PvE players making them more willing to support the site. --Hanz (talk) 17:00, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
That's great! I really hope that we get some help from WvW based guilds. And I agree on the Reddit part, it's amazing for website traffic and hopefully some of them will decide to stay and help out. Well we could organize the current PvP builds tomorrow because they are basically ready. For announcement we'd wait until the site's kinda finalized format-wise: main page and maybe some features. Tho I've got 2 questions: me and Dantes know where the current builds belong because we've played them a lot the past 2 years I think (personally I've played every listed build but ranger ones), so we could already put the current 30 builds into meta/great/good without a Testing phase, because most of these builds aren't new (but are up-to-date ofc). Could we skip the Testing period for them? Then any build that gets added after these ones would go through the rate phase, but this should be done now to get the site going. If an arguement begins on its talk page about it's position, we move it to Testing immediately, but i don't think this will happen. 2nd question, if we want to put a build in 2 categories, both Meta and Great, is that possible? --Hanz (talk) 18:13, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Alright. Feel free to place the build in Great/Good even though they haven't been rated. I will try to create a template now that explains why it's in that category without any rating, you can use the following tag:

I just tried to add additional categories to a page and it worked just fine, are you sure that you entered the category name correctly? I have also edited the Meta-Build template and added rating to it.--Galaxian (talk) 10:06, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
It works now, but displays the template twice. Once displays the the Great table and under that another table with the meta text. Any way to just include it in both categories with having 1 table? PvP categories[edit]

Dantess and I were talking about the crossover of builds between SPvP and TPvP and we both agree that it's quite superfluous in it's implementation. In the old gwpvx there were categories like "Dungeon" which had sort of a "sub-category" you could call it where they'd not only separate build names by "Class - Build Name" but also as "Team - Number of Players - Team Build Name". I think we can do something similar for solo q in our PvP section and reduce it to one category "Conquest" or "Structured PvP". Inside we can add niche builds like "Solo Q - Engineer - Decap Bunker". Those builds will be signified to only be discussed in their "meta"-ness according to Solo Q. There are very few builds that will be like this, but it will be better to have their own "Solo Q" section under the Structured PvP/Conquest category. Yes yes, discussed many times already, but now that the builds are out of trial it seems even more pointless. Both s/tPvP sections are exactly the same, merging them would happen anyways and as seen on reddit this just creates confusion. It should happen. --Hanz (talk) 18:23, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Can I just say I have achieved wiki Badassery?[edit]

Hey all, decided to work allllllllll day (like 8-10 hours) on the new trait system. My goals were:

  • Make it really easy to use (Like really @*#$% easy for the end user.)
  • Make it unique to the class using it
  • Allow for minor traits!

Rooms for improvement:

  • Using the Str extension we can even get rid of all the pipelines and even get rid of all the different lines. It would be written as: {{Traits2014|Mesmer|44006|-I-IV/-I-V///III-VI-XI}}. Like the entire template could just be this one-liner single template. This would be the ultimate level of perfection for ease of writing/editing.
  • Using the math extension so I can list the "stats" like +150 power and +15% condition duration in between the name / trait points allocated and the actual hexagon traits shown.

Roadmap:

  • Lots of extra templates have to be made on the first run through. I can do this on my own throughout the week. Might take a day or two. The template following is just an example, other versions won't work for now xP
  • We need our own "background" images, and trait size images. There are unique one's based on profession for the minor traits on intothemists at least. I know in PvP (in game) they're all just fire symbols.
  • Eventually............. HOVER TOOLTIPS?! I think it's very do-able with this method. Downside being that we have to create so many pages and update them ourselves when tooltips change. Up to us as a community to decide if that's something we're willing to do.

And here it is to look at :) I'm pretty proud of myself. Learned all sorts of weird wiki programming jazz. And the documentation isn't that great tbh haha. If we cannot use it, I have photoshop and can try to work on it too. The Math extension as well as StringFunctions are both something I want to experiment with. Other's I was looking at but didn't have a direct use for now (but may in the future) were Loops and VariablesExtension. Lastly, is there a way to control who uses these extensions? Could you check if the math extension is working as it should be, I have installed it but I am not sure if the paths are correct. So turns out I had the wrong extension for math <(。_。)> that is my bad. But I got it to work with the expr template in the parser functions so good thing you had that installed :) This should be pretty good now. I might start working on the tooltips with tahiri or perhaps the background images etc. I also worked on a condensed version of the template, not sure if that's important or not to us. PvE Meta[edit]

There are a few builds that are quite obviously the "meta" build for classes in PvE Dungeons. Will we be following the same method as we did on PvP to organize them, or will there be a voting procedure this time around? Chase (talk) 13:51, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

Gear Template[edit]

Hey, after traits, I will be looking at gear templates. This isn't something I will work on until next week I believe, so there's no rush. I just want to start the discussion early. The way I see it, in high-level PvE dungeons and in PvP there are really only one type of stats, rune, and (if PvE) infusion type used. It is currently more work for our editors and readers to look at 6 different slots of the same armor type for head, shoulder, chest, arms, legs, and boots. It would be better (imo) to list it once as we do in PvP. To do so, I think we should have "icons" or "colors" associated with different stats so that readers can tell at a glance what is being used.

Even if we decide to have 6 different slots (because the armor was mix-and-matched) it will still be easier for the reader to see 4 red boxes as berserkers and, say, 2 pink boxes as valkyrie. So getting colors/icons either way is going to benefit us in either model. Here are the different stats possible for builds currently, colors based on PvP amulets first:

  • Berserker's (Red)
  • Zealot's (Gray)
  • Soldier's
  • Valkyrie
  • Rampager's
  • Assassin's (Yellow)
  • Knight's
  • Cavalier's
  • Nomad's
  • Settler's
  • Giver's

A better format for gear for PvE would be amazing! But sometimes there are two viable gear combinations for meta - mainly just berserker's/assasin's distributions. For non-meta and especially for WvW, people come up with all sorts of things, so I don't know if trying to unify a whole gearset under one name is a wise idea. I'd recommend with staying 14 (2 weapon/6 armor/6 trinket) slots for those different builds as well as uniformity across other PvE build platforms that always present all 14 slots. Maybe make a table format with |weapon|armor|trinkets| columns? DEKeyz2Chaos (talk) 06:03, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, people definitely like to mix-and-match. I was planning to make two templates, one for that purpose and one that quickly tells people, all your weapons/armor/trinkets are berserker's. Voting guidelines[edit]

I would recommend setting up some hard and fast rules about voting + when a build goes from testing into a rated category. On PvX we had a whole policy page called Real Vetting. Also, I'd think about changing the rating ranges on categories. Something like 3.5->4.5 for Good and 4.5+ for Great. Trash anything 3.5 or less. Those were the rating scales we used for most of PvX's history, we only changed the rating scales very late in the game (around 2010 I think) when the meta was pretty much set in stone, there weren't new skills, and balance changes weren't happening regularly. We wanted to reduce the number of random theorycrafts maiing it through the vetting system. a 3.5->4.5 & 4.5+ rating scale would much more accurately reflect which builds are Good and which are Great.--TV Thief Icon.jpgTahiriVeila(talk) 05:10, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Honestly, I'd be even more lenient. There are already some builds below 3.5 that should be in the Good range still. I would probably say 3.0 - 4.0 = good, 4.0 - 5.0 = great. Or we should require more votes before we start showing a tag. Like 5 votes minimum or something so the numbers can be better gauged. I'm also gonna look into why the templates don't just auto-update based on the votes. But I do like the idea of requiring a minimum of 5 votes or something. Chase (talk) 13:36, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Can we get half point for voting? like 1;1.5;2;2.5;... and, the builds really need more votes, right now there are 4-5 votes for each build wich isn't really accurate since those are used for tons of people. Why don't you make a post on reddit/official forum asking people to vote. While this could get some random to vote without really checking the build, someone who read the forum/reddit and bother to come here and vote shouldn't be a new player. New Traits Template :)[edit]

Docs
1. Traits = Template Name
2. Class = Profession (E.g. Thief, Mesmer, Guardian)
3. 66002 = Trait allocation. Examples: 40406, 04550
4. Traits = Each trait line is separated with a pipe (|) symbol. 
            Inside each trait line, the minor and major traits are separated with (/) symbols
            Minor traits can be indicated with "-", as "minor", or any word/symbol as long as it's not "|" or "/"
              (I think " " is also excluded from possibilities)
            Major traits are indicated with their respective trait number in capitalized Roman Numerals
            Thus, -/III/-/X/-/XIII is allocating III, X, XIII into the first line
                  -/VI/-/IX/-/XII  is allocating VI, IX, XII  into the second line
                  |||-/V           skips two trait lines (they are empty between the pipes) and
                                   is allocating V into the fifth trait line.

What we still have left to do is getting verification on the trait backgrounds or coming up with some of our own. We could work on getting better icons too for the stats. Lastly, we should go through the thirty builds we have and replace them with the new system when we're ready.

If there is a problem with any of these and you know where to find it you can use this page as a list of bookmarks to find and fix it.

This was a very serious amount of work. DEKeyz and Galaxian really helped out here, thank you again ^_^ Here are the PvP meta builds in the new format (well, you know Ranger...)

Note the addition of a "title" parameter and "link" parameter. In multi-trait builds you can signify a title for each one. New categories[edit]

Hey, what do you all think about some categories like "Thief" or "Thief Meta Builds" so that we can see a list of all thief builds or all thief builds that are in the meta category without having to worry about PvE, WvW, or PvP. I thought of this idea when I was looking at the community guidelines/formatting article. Yeah this was an issue in the beginning with an engi build. But we've realized that we should just split the build into 2, 1 for wvw and 1 for pvp, because of many reasons, like the gear differencies for example: WvW is using the PvE stats and in PvE you can get higher stats than those of the PvP amulets plus you can mix gear - another problem is that PvE has some stat combos, runes, and sigils that Pvp doesn't, for example Dire stat, Perplexity Rune, Sigil of Torment. WvW also allows the usage of food and the playstyle is really different there mainly because they don't have to worry about contesting capture points (we'd have to write separate guides for the same page), even the meta is entirely different. So we've decided that it's just a lot less confusing to split the build into 2 separate ones - there aren't that many crossovers afterall, no need to worry about it.--Hanz (talk) 17:43, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Can you discuss to your team about deleting all the General PvE builds? They are not really General PvE builds but dungeon builds. After all, They were designed for dungeons in mind.

What I want to look for in a General PvE build is a balance of speed, tagging, and dps. It uses more selfish skills rather than group skills because not every PvEr sticks together. Dungeon builds are designed with other players playing with them.

I personally agree with this. Currently there is almost no point to the PvE section, and I really don't think dungeon builds are actually good for PvE. PvE is just so easy that anything can really fly. I usually run a more mobile version if I have to do map completion (Which I don't. Thank god.) or if I'm doing guild missions, and want to find a bounty, again more mobile. There are also builds for world bosses that focus on using soldier's gear as they can't be critically hit. These are all (imo) better examples of PvE builds than the dungeon builds we've lumped into there. What do you all think about separating the two a bit more? Chase (talk) 20:54, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Agreed that most of the current PvE builds are not very PvE friendly, so the PvE section needs some culling. Possibly rename it to "Open World" or something that is clearly NOT dungeons but still PvE? DPS Guardian, 6/5/0/0/3 Warrior, and Staff ele (modulo some skill tweaks) are open world meta, though. Also, there are some World Boss builds (I think still in testing) that should be there. All builds would fit the "Open World" section. I agree that there aren't really PvE meta since PvE is a huge set of differents thing.

Well sure, you can run around naked and with no traits in open world PvE and still do fine (though everything will take a while) - but there could be use in disseminating good builds to the community. People still ask me "what's good for leveling/open world map completion?" from time to time, so there is a market for open world exploration builds. And of course, we all want the rare drops from Teq/Wurm, so that's a build family where you can't crit and want to do lots of damage. Finally, there are zerg event builds where you can crit and damage doesn't necessarily matter (but you still want to be efficient) but you want some capabilities to tag lots of stuff. I guess that's three primary categories - or two if you go with "Open World Exploration" and "Group Events." -DEKeyz2Chaos (talk) 13:39, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
I like the idea of PvE Meta being the best way to do casual things ;) There are still efficient ways to be casual. Less clicking, less worrying. These things can be "meta" in a way. Open World Bosses should have their own section, if even in just the build name. I think we should have a list of "running" builds to cross maps efficiently for capturing waypoints/vistas/running around hearts. And lastly, I think the tagging in a zerg build is pretty good idea too. not saying these all have to be separate if some can be combined that'd be good too. I tried to do one for mesmer running/tagging. Idk if that was a good idea or not, but it seemed to be unique enough. WvW Zerg Builds[edit]

The builds in this section are going to be a challenge. Every guild runs their own variations of the Guardian, Warrior, Ele, Necro for their core compositions. Along with a 1-2 Mesmers for utility and a few Thieves for pressuring backlines in GvGs. So when it comes to a consensus on what the builds should exactly be we are going to have disagreements and people are going to vote builds poorly for not being the same to what their guild runs. And their are actual differences between T1 and lower tiers like T6/T7. I used to be on Crystal Desert and I could easily get away with a Full Berserker's Staff Ele with offensive traits. Now that I'm on Tarnished Coast this is very difficult unless I dedicate myself completely to backline and I run defensive traits. --DantesS_P (talk) 16:38, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

I've been in multiple wvw guilds and they're all running basically the same "secret" builds for the four big classes. The variations are usually covered even in intothemists builds. I agree with what you're saying about the T1 -> T7 difference. Not sure how to tackle that. Something tells me that it's more gear dependent than traits. Also hoping that those lower tier voters are not "bashing" on good builds but simply don't care which one is the best cuz anything can really work. In the end our meta section should be for T1-3 servers and the rest of our voting can be based on what happens next. We don't really know which way it'll go until it happens. Mobile version[edit]

I know it's not number one priority but it would be awesome to get a mpre friendly monile version of the wiki. I'll be using it only with cellphone for the mext weeks and there's one big issue. The menu on the left (with the MetaBattle logo, Navigation section etc) follows you while browsing amd gives zoom problems. The big deal is that sometimes it gets ober your screen and when you want to click something "under" it you just end up somewhere else on the wiki. Tried to use some other browser. Currently using an iPhone 5S: Safari gives problem; Mercury gives problem; Puffin gives no problem. Note that Puffin is a mobile browser running Adobe Flash Player. I have no idea if this might be a reason but I'm on a vacation in the USA while I usually connect from Europe.

I don't know if it's possible to add such thing in a Wiki but a notification system would make it much easier to track your changes. Something like "user xxx wrote something on a discussion your following" "user xxx rated your build". Voting improvements[edit]

Can we have the voting not directly shown\ after we move a build after testing. It will keep people from messing with the ratings when they dislike a single thing about a build, Engineer - Tool/optional kit one example. And after we move a build out of testing it doesn't need to be voted on anymore. Also a way for Admins to reset votes if we want to relook at builds that didn't receive the rating it deserved due to the original submitter poor choices, Elementalist - WvW Staff. Actually thieves have a lot of variance in their builds. They're not really utilized well, but for people that are hardcore thief mains, it will benefit them. There are some common pieces in the builds. I'll try working on it tomorrow after I can get the basis of the hover tooltip template down. I'm not a fan :( There's no logo, and therefore our favicon would probably be some boring letters. Also too blocky for my liking. Doesn't really fit as well as the text we have now I think. I prefer to use the styles and fonts of GW2 like the art brush and text what not, but prefer the color separation. Reminds me that I'm not on the official wiki and that I'm on a different website that is analagous to it. But yeah, logo is defs too hard to read right now. I'm a big fan of what we have already. It's neutral colors, turquoise tranquility and grey-tone implies facts/data (instead of the "in-your-face"/aggressive red of the wiki), and the icon is like crossed arrows/swords/weapons, very battle like. Is there a reason we're trying to change it? I like teal too but it's not really GW2-ish. I look at it and I don't see the essence of #e-sport. A logo with a better resolution that also grasps the feeling of watching a sunset in Ascalon, with a slight chilling breeze passing through the woods easing the pain of soldiers returning from battle, drinking a glass of wine after the victory, taking a last glance at the now calm battlefield. Searching Engine[edit]

After discussing on a build with an user it came to my attention that while searching you can't define if the build is WvW, PvP or PvE. It would be nice to get a light color on the background of the name while searching or a little written in italic.--Billaboong (talk) 09:25, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

I doubt newbies would get what those colors mean in the first place. Levelling Builds[edit]

Here I am with another of my ideas: adding levelling builds. They eould probably need a different layout because the more levels you gain the more you're build will grow, so something like 0-20 use this traits, 20-40 unlock this ik this order, 0-60 unlock this and buy this set of armor/runes and once you are level 80 find a proper build. There would also need space explaining wich combos you can make at each stage. There are many videos around so it would just be about implementing those works on the Wiki. I think that we should add leveling builds/guides ASAP, that's another large audience that we should be target. My thoughts: Let's take GS guardian leveling guide as an example, we should create 4 different pages for that build, one called "Build:Guardian Greatsword (Level 0-20), another called "Build:Guardian Greatsword (Level 20-40) and so on. I started a levelling build for Guardian tought I stopped editing it because of other priorities. Feel free to continue, I agre it would get a big audience to Metabattle but wait for the incoming parch because it will change a lot the way of levelling up. Problems

  • If the name of the thing goes on two lines it breaks a bit
  • If the height of the screen is so small it can't fit upwards or downwards it kinda breaks
  • Left right is good; Right side has a little buffer that's messed up though
  • I can't seem to figure out how to link to the gw2 wiki for the words part (label) -- If you have any ideas please let me know.

That's what it currently is, if I'm not mistaken. By default steal will show a 35 second cd, but we can change it since it is a modifiable variable in template call. Did you mean that or somethign else? Sidenote: These templates are meant to be used inside other templates or in paragraphs/bullet points. So they currently act a bit wonkey unless used inline with text for now. Well, if you didn't put the cd in there, it would default to 35 seconds. I'm not sure how we can possibly control the cd without having to type it in there or creating multiple templates. In the first example here it's just the normal {{Skills/Thief/Steal}}, then I add the parameter to say, yes bountiful theft is on, so you can see we can add custom lines to the thing based on that. Then the third example is normal with a cd modified. Fourth one is both cd, size of icon, bountiful theft'ed, and with a label. Fifth one shows that no matter what parameters you end up using, if you say "textonly" it will only show text. If I put them like this without whitespace in between they come on a single line. That allows us to place these in other templates such as a skillbar properly (hopefully!), and also allows us to further improve on other aspects that we may endup using like skill rotations/combos. « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 14:52, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Mmmh, not sure if making guides skills based is good, the same spots for Phase Retreat can work for other teleport skills. I like that idea more, people can click a map and be like ohhhhhhh this is all the shit I should figure out for my class or in general for a player. Things like when buffs come up and what they do or what the treb is how to repair it, good portalling for it etc. We can split it up into general tactics and then profession-specific, or we can break up the teleports a different way since they don't all work the same. Another part of it are the "Map Guides" - basically this is what you guys are talking about. My idea is to either borrow the gw2 wiki's associated page (because they cover the basics pretty well) and then expand it with basic tactics and general tricks or just make our own (but I'd prefer the 1st). When it's done, we can add the links of the Phase Retreat / Teleport spot guides to each map's page. What do you think? Seems a good point to make PR separated from the other teleport skills. For the map guides I agree on taking informations from the wiki but it would be nice to add those informations that only metabattle can offer such as "don't do Svanir at start" or "if they have one thief it will alwats tru to steal your Svanir" and suggestion on how to prevent enemy tactis by their team composition. Let's say you wanna make a nec build. You can just press edit on the top right of an already existing necromancer build (look for a build with similar weapons so you save time with that too), copy paste it into the empty build page you are about to create and then just adjust the stuff you need. This might be more feasible once Anet introduces a template system for traits + utilities. In GW1, templates were translated into a chain of letters that corresponded to the player's skills and attributes: the game then saved all of your templates in the form of these codes in .ini files. The old [PvX had a decoder http://gwpvx.gamepedia.com/Special:PvXDecode] that would translate the template codes into the wiki code for a template box (I think it was actually expanded to create a basic page for you as well at one point). If GW2 implements a similar system for storing trait + skills templates as copy/pastable codes, then it may be feasible to create a simple tool like PvXDecode. Hey I was wondering if I could rename my build or do I have to create a new page and have the old one deleted. If it were to be renamable but only by you can you rename it "Warrior - DPS All Variants." From "Warrior - GS Axe/Mace." As I have added every possible variant for that build.

--DPS All Variants is awfully general. If the difference between the variants is weapons and traits, that generally is enough to do a new build for it. -PalwaJoko

I would say check the build out there really isnt a point in having a million different warriors build that only have one sigil different or 1 weapon different. I dont want to flood the wiki with 20 build that are all able to fit in 1 page with just variants, Some of my variants are as simple as using a sigil of undead while others are as hard as swapping some traits around. I just don't feel it deserves its own page as it would just flood the wiki. -JosePepowner

Maybe the "News & Updates" table's align should be set to left, "Learn about the website" table could be moved up next to it to the right, and a new "Guides" table could take the place of the now empty spot of "Learn about the website". Also, the "Builds by professions" table seems a bit too long compared to others, maybe we should split the list into 2 columns similar to GW1 PvX wiki's. The next is just a matter of preference, could we have a background color for the tables of "Learn about the website | Builds By Profession | Obsolete Builds| Guides"? I just finished Ranger and Elementalist traits. I wrote an quick and dirty application for that purpose that parses information from GW2 wiki and fills the data into my pre-configured templates. It will break with every wiki design change, but it helped me a lot to finish this now. My goal was to unify the look&feel to match the one in-game. We agreed with Chase that our aim is simple - the tooltips should look like the ones in game (except we will add space before durations, e.g. "Burning (5s)" instead of "Burning(5s)" that's in-game). Let me go through all other professions and I will use my scripts to unify the look&fell of all tooltips. If you guys prepare template for skill tooltips, I can write scripts to parse skills information from GW2 wiki and fill the templates - it will take some time, but I can do that. All trait tooltips are done and their look&feel is now unified for all professions (lower/upper characters, base damage numbers everywhere (used PvP/WvW numbers for Confusion, in PvE it's just 2x that), spaces, "sec vs s", "seconds vs sec", unified the bonus icons (mainly Range vs Radius vs Book) - in game it's sometimes not unified and obviously bugged, I changed it so it just makes sense, I also fixed the classes for the div to be always correct (Traits-%PROFESSION%-Adept|Master|Grandmaster*), ... and many more unifications is now done) ... ufff, I think I don't wanna see trait tooltips for couple of days now :)

I have added a "Last modified time" to the meta/great/good templates which simply displays the last modified time for a build. I think that this is needed so that people can decide whether the build is up to date for them. Sadly this won't "update" the build. Anyone can edit and make it seem up-to-date. However it is a very good start, I like the change very much. I would also like it if we re-opened voting on meta builds after a feature patch like this, maybe like 2 weeks after the patch has been around or maybe longer (Dantess should know better on when a new "meta" forms). WvW Harasser Builds[edit]

"Harasser" is the definition for a player that in the Zerg has to kill all the ranged enemies (necros, eles, mesmers,) and is then running a roaming buiild. I've seen someone posting a harasser build under the Zerg builds. I feel like the harasser builds are just roaming builds used for harassing. PvP builds: gear part[edit]

A recent contributor simplified the gear part of a pvp build by basically removing the template and just simply listing the rune and the amulet. It's not a bad idea afterall, considering how you only have 1 rune and 1 amulet slot in PvP. I'm thinking about doing this to other PvP builds too, I'm just not a fan of randomly messing with templates so I thought I'd ask before I act. I like idea but remember to leave the link to the first and only rune, so a player that doesn't know what the run does can click it and go to the wiki. The same should be done with the gear: "soldier" isn't enough, many players don't know the categories by name so I suggest saying "Soldier, Power, Toughness, Vitality. To explain better I'll give the current guardian gear part and what I think should be like

The best rune choice would be Superior Runes of the Trooper as they clear a condition off your party members when using a shout. However from a survivability standpoint Melandru runes make sense too.

Ads and competitions?[edit]

I talked to Chase last night about a few ideas that I had and would like to get a few more opinions on this:

I would like to add a 728x90 banner at the top center of each page. Revenues will be used for:

1. Pay of server costs (isn't that much right now)

2. Host different community competitions (guide contributors? other competition ideas?) with gem code prizes.

One thing about the competitions, while on the normal wiki you know what to upload, here let's say someone posts 6 builds and all of them ends up in the trash - that can be a really negative experience. Server costs gold IRL so I have nothing against the banner - the only ways to escape that would be: becoming official partners of Anet like the wiki, or Curse membership. Unrelated: how about a "Music" or "Instrument" category under the Miscellaneous section? So we could post songs for each musical Instrument like the Harp or Flute - these would replace the "Meta/Great etc" links in this category. We don't need "Testing / Trial" for these so we could merge it into 1 single row, maybe that would give us enough space to display the name of all of them, so marriner's Horn, Choir Bell and so on. If someone clicks one of these, it could directly lead to a single page where all the songs can be found - having individual pages for these are unnecessary I feel. Hanz, you beautiful bastard. Of course musical instruments deserve their own metabattle. How will we show sequences of keys to hit? I'm not musically inclined, but I think it is an awesome idea. Also do you have skype? And if there is a way to show how much money we've raised and how much of it we need to pay the host we can show people how much the cash prize would be for competitions. Not to mention it would keep us "non-profit" to show that information as this is a volunteer project so far. People can be like oh wow this is what they need to raise and this is what they've raised. Note sure if this is exactly the right place for this, but I noticed that the default settings for search only includes the Main namespace, and it should probably be extended to include Build: and Guide: (and maybe Archive:, but you can probably leave that one out) by default for all users since most will want results from those namespaces. I was thinking of posting a staff recruitment thread on Reddit, we are in need of 2 PvE admins and maybe another WvW admin (2 admins per section). Admins are for moderating discussions, checking builds, reverting things, banning people and not really for voting, it's just that we are likely the most active while it comes to voting - we need more voters but that's not a reason for getting admins. The idea behind having more admins on this wiki is just to fill each section with stuff that people can't complain about. By time, people will see the real value of this and they will most likely visit more often and hopefully rate the builds. As for now, we should focus on producing content and keep it up to date. Once the competitions kick off we should see increase in visitors. GW2 is willing to tweet our contests/major updates too which is a huge plus. Reddit Post, Sept 12th[edit]

Hey guys, I'm planning to write a post tomorrow announcing all our trait tooltips being implemented (just Elementalist and Ranger left!). A big thank you to Eremko and Galaxian for all their help on this project. It's a very big step to increasing the readability/interactivity of our site. What I'm planning to talk about are:

  • WvW Meta builds for Elementalist, Warrior, Guardian, and Necromancer (These need to be updated and spiffed up tomorrow!)
  • The need for T1 WvW Admins and some PvE Admins (Preferably dungeon hardcore speedclear/world boss experienced)
  • Our transfer to a new server
  • A 2,000 gem code raffle, eligible to anyone that creates an account, user talk page, and edits any existing build in a positive/helpful way (even grammar edits!). <-- Basically I'll say this, but any user with a user page will be eligible.

At this point I'll give a small simple tutorial on using the site and hope we get new content editors. I will also go into the "spirit" of the website in hopes of people not changing things but instead adding variants/choices to builds. Especially the usage section in most places suck.

Previously Jose was upkeeping our formatting guidelines and that was very helpful. I think in the next few months I'm gonna try to finish up all our basic tools for displaying a build (including a skill rotation template if possible) then we should try to create a "unified" experience. I'm really hoping to add to each page three things at the top that kinda overtly explain yes, this is a mesmer build. yes this is for wvw. yes this build has been rated for meta as a banner at the top. I know what we have is good, but I want it to be more color / icon based and more meshed with the designs. I will also if possible try to finally start working on designing the website with some of the gw2 themes/graphics. This is a tonne of things, and I do work every weekday, so I'm almost positive I will fail to get it all done in a month, but it's my goal, just leting you guys know, and hoping you have new ideas :) PS - I will be working with muki tomorrow to write up the reddit post, be sure to let me know if there's anything we're missing and we'll add it into there! « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 02:19, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

Food and Utility was missing on almost all of them. Re-did the elementalist for reading purposes. There are three variants of the Necro now, properly allowing new players to choose what works best for their play style. And updated the horrible gear choices on Guardian. Also re-did the trait variants on there to work with the new hoverable items for Warrior, Guardian, and Necro. (Will update ele when the trait hover tooltips are done on that too). General PvE builds[edit]

Farming builds should go in here, however no one has been creating any. Now with champ train basically gone and blix event retired, I'm not sure what else besides running around a map can be included here which are equivalent to map completion builds. In general our PvE builds are not doing well in terms of updates or traffic. Our highest viewed pages are PvP builds. Once started with a guardian levelling build but gave up because the patch changed everything and had more important things to do. I think the reason why PvP builds are more popular is that the build diversity isn't that big in PvE. Each class has like 1-3 builds. You can visit the site, pick a build and you don't have to change anything until another balance patch is released. I got in touch with a logo artist and explained the ideas behind our site. Since we are more pvp/wvw based at the moment (and because the site is called metaBATTLE after all) we came up with one idea as crossed swords in front of the wvw tower in a stylized method. Obviously hoping for other ideas to come through, and we can offer other ideas as well. So as things develop I will post them here for you guys. Be sure to offer your ideas / feedback. Voting improvements[edit]

You guys already know I want the ability to reset votes. But original PvX also had a different voting system, there was an extra tab next to Build/Discusion called Rate where you voted. Here is a screenshot for Shockaxe vote page if you don't have a gwPvX/curse account. This puts some responsibility for your vote so you can't just troll vote and give it a low rating because everyone will see it. And it allowed admins to see and removed troll votes that people did anyway.

Another thing we should lower the bar for a build to become Great. Currently we are using the same rankings of as GW1 PvX 3.75-<4.75 is a Good build and 4.75-5.0 is a great build. It wasn't originally like that it was 3.5-4.5 for good and 4.5-5.0 for great. I wasn't around for when they bumped it up but I believe they did because there where no new expansion and fewer balance patches. And the community had exhausted the majority of build ideas. I suggest we move down to that scale of 3.5-4.5 4.5-5.0 to be more lenient to newer builds being added. --Human icon.png Dantes (talk) 15:17, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Better to allow us to vote 1-10. It's like having half votes but also on a better grading scale. Not sure how to do a rating system, but it's nice. Would be better if it were public. Dmitry Valberg, aka Gcardinal, was one of the founders of PvXwiki and its primary coder for the majority of the PvX-unique extensions, including PvX Rate, PvX User Ratings, PvX Recent Ratings, PvX Decode (for game template code input), and PvX Converter (for wikicode integration with gwbbcode). His original website, www.gcardinal.com, redirects to his flickr profile. You might be able to contact him there or at his twitter - but it's been years since he coded PvX, so dunno if he'll be interested. A few other users are credited on a few of the unique extensions, like Hhhippo (who worked on the servers/backend before PvX migrated to Wikia). Łukasz 'TOR' Garczewski (wikia staff) coded PvX DownloadTemplate for downloading bulk build templates and helped with a few code touchups along the way (as the rating extension broke occasionally during mediawiki upgrades). Alexia E. Smith and Brent Copeland (curse staff) are also credited for some of the extensions (presumably updating them during/after the migration from Wikia to Curse).
A huge chunk of PvX's build template codes were taken from gwshack's gwBBcode. Something similar would probably have to be written for GW2 - maybe the newfangled GW2 API could be used instead? I'm not a coder myself, I haven't the faintest how all that magic works; I mostly just worked as a buffer between Gcardinal and the wiki community (people skills were not his forte). I have tinkered with the rate extension myself, and it isn't very complicated (I got an old version sorta working already on a usb wiki). If you can't get in touch with anyone, I'll see if I can grab the up-to-date rate extension files from Curse again and try reducing it to one rating category (and make it 0-10), since Alex and I were working on that already (you probably don't want a 3-part vote, we certainly didn't in the end). Don't know about (0-10) since we will just end up with (0-6) = varying degrees of bad and will be trashed, (7-8) good/decent builds, and (9-10) Great builds. Where a (0-5) gives us (0-3) = varying degrees of bad and will be trashed but (3) it might just need a overhaul, (4) good/decent builds, and (5) Great builds. With the (10) scale over half the scores are useless since they all just say the build is bad. And I've seen the what you guys have had to deal with the 3-part vote. Tehcnically, half of the 5 scale scores are useless too xP but I personally haven't felt the need to do a half vote either so I think 5 is fine. The way I rate it's 1 -- trash, don't recommend; 2 -- below average, not good; 3 -- average, so-so; 4 -- above average, good; 5 -- excellent, meta. External and Internal Links[edit]

Quick pro tip. You almost always want to use Internal Links over External ones when linking to other parts of the wiki. To make an Internal Link you use this [[Page Title]] use whatever name for the specific page you are linking to. If you want to change the name so it isn't awful to read like this Warrior - Hambow, insert a vertical bar | after the page name then your short name like this [[Build:Warrior - Hambow|Hambow]] so you end up with this Hambow. If it's a category then you add a colon : before the page name so it doesn't put the catogory on the the page but as a link like this [[:Category:Meta Conquest Builds|Meta PvP builds]] so you get this Meta PvP builds. --Human icon.png Dantes (talk) 00:15, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Research[edit]

One thing it's really botering me is the fact that whiel searching you will see pages that have been moved on the suggestions, an example is searching Guide and finding "Hot to be a successful pug" wich is onle redirecting to another page, I'm not sure this is the right solution but couldn't we just delete old pages? Unified Build Style[edit]

So we have a whole bunch of builds now and people are submitting new builds. But we don't really have a unified look for a lot of our pages. A lot of builds just have extra fluff that is not needed. Like you don't need to redundantly mention every slot single slot is Berserker. And if it's a build that uses mixed sets like most WvW builds you generally want to explain why you take X and Y with Z. And show the different benchmarks you want to keep in mind. So here are some generic test pages PvP Test, PvE Test, and WvW Test. Still working on them but they show the idea I want to get across. I like it. Sorry I haven't updated any of the templates yet; Once we're done with the tooltips for skills, sigils, and runes there'll be a much better method to writing build pages. Ideally, aiming to allow people to post something like {{Template|PvE|Thief}} into a page and saving it. Then they can re-edit it and the text will be the bare-bones for all the different weapon sets etc, and a user can just delete the parts they don't need. Imo it's faster/easier to delete things you don't need than it is to reference and type the stuff you do want. « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 18:26, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Logo ideas[edit]

Hey everyone, here are 3 "sketches" or ideas that we have so far for a potential logo:

Please offer your thoughts, or I will go ahead and ask to refine the first one with more of a paintbrush stroke style in keeping with GW2 artwork. Tooltips 2.0[edit]

The hype is real guys! I just implemented all the tooltip templates for skills and traits - they both do now support hovering tooltips for "large" as well as for "small" icons. We don't have to do any changes to our currently existing guides, I've altered all existing SkillBar, Gw2Skill, HUESkills, ... templates and it now just works automagically! I wrote many helper scripts to make this happen, but there was a lot of manual work required to be done because of Conflicting skills (and yes, this too works automatically for existing guides!). So you could imagine the amount of work behind this, it's total of 901 skill templates and 640 trait templates. Here is my workspace so you could explore the tooltips: Eremko/Directory/All Skills and Eremko/Directory/All Traits.
