And Thief takes another hit - The recent reworks didn't impacts its power, quite the opposite in fact (especially with Arc Divider getting a haircut), so Thief is still capable of pulling really nice damage, if it manages to get in range. And here the problems start, Swipe being lowered to a range 600 and requiring to connect for casting causes the engage capabilities to be atrocious, practically abolishing the freedom thief has had in the front end of public pushes.

Frontline Thief is kinda in a weird position. It is capable of dishing out extreme amounts of damage in guild sized fights and can also perform really well in public zergs of a limited size even though the support in those fights is naturally weaker. However it really gets difficult against groups of 30 and larger, lacking proper support here, the sheer amount of random damage floating around can easily cause an extreme headache, effectively reducing your ability to roll your damage if not outright killing you.
Most of the time however, it's the range that overshadows the thief, other power classes such as Herald, Power Scourge or usually pull ahead during the time it takes for commanders to engage (if at all). The impact of the boonrip from Trickery also seems outclassed by Scourge as of now where the sheer amount of boonrips dwarfs the three on steal regardless of specificity.
Great build. After the recent DD changes still does massive damage and has a bit more survivability. Definetely meta for GvGs and very good for medium-scale open field.
Only viable thief build in a wvw group that isn't just ganking.
The build has massive burst, mobility and can make downstates at locations no other class can.
However reliant on team support while not providing anything else than burst damage and unusable during skill lag making this build unreliable for anything higher than 3 stars.
I have been playing this build, or at least close to for years & it has always been my go to for high damage output. Paired with the shortbow & shadowstep, the mobility is nice as well. 5 stars!
Why on earth is this not meta. Great surv and damage. And if you want some group support you can poison share.
I have been playing this recently and I am deffinetly now going to main thief. I don't know why this gets such a bad rap. Sure the range isn't as good as necro rev or ele, but when your in melee range the surv is better and so is the damage. I can often one shot people.
Very happy this build is finally seeing more attention and getting played more.
It has great damage and is extremely fun to play. And with the mild nerf to warrior bubble thief makes a solid melee class for any group. I would consider taking dagger storm though. But depends What And who you are fighting with.
Solid 5 star build in my eyes
This build is easily the highest burst damage output for WvW. Yes it lacks in group support, but it makes up for it when you get close enough to start doing damage. My guild is now looking at ruining about 3 regularly as it’s a solid input to the team
I have seen a lot of thief’s recently. Got hit for over 16k by one so decided to give it a go.
Lots of evades for good sustain.
No group support tools.
Plays much better with a good group to help with stab.
All in all a fantastic build that only gets better with a good community or commander.
This build surprised me. Surprising high damage burst which can generate downs on its own, assisting the group to get a leg up at the start of the fight. Basilisk is amazing damage/CC support. Choking gas is underrated and under-utilized for how strong it is, and shortbow contains the most spammable blast finisher in the game. I would vote 5 if the survivability of the build could handle larger groups, but the build does not scale up very well. Perfect for 15man teams.
It's a great build for damage and the best thief build for zergs, but it's only optimal in guild fights as those are only ones that really abuse the smoke field funcionality. Also basilisk venom OP.
Since i am poor i decided to go for a valkyrie and berserker mix (since i already had a valk set) and oh boy the crits are insane and the constant evades and stunbreaks make me really slippery, love this build.
Awesome build, high damage potential while still being sustained enough to survive in zergs.
A high skill ceiling build that can dish out the highest potential damage in a GvG or smaller scale open field. The rise of shortbow dazes gives a new way to contribute that makes them far stronger open field than they used to be. Still extremely squishy and reliant on team support, but in organised groups has potential to be a great build.
Great build, nice sustain, damage, and great at finishing the downed ppl. Good alternative for zergs
A great new build. Even though people are not used to it yet so you are often not put in a party with stability, it is still able to survive at the frontline and deal massive damage. It separates itself from warrior as it has way more mobility allowing it to jump out of the melee train for a few kill and come back fast.
Insane Sustain if played right. Rly nice Dmg for Frontline! And much more fun as Dps Berzerker which i played before. I'll stay on thief!
This build trades higher damage from CS with AB, making it more sustainable in the front-line and easy to use with constant dodges and vault combos. In a proper subgroup with proper stability, this build can be fully used to damage in the frontline without the need of taking care of health as with the other CS version. And also if Sindrener says it's good, then I believe it is.
