Hover Tooltips[edit]

  • Hey Chase, I found a small bug, when small trait icon is used in unsorted list (<ul>), there is an automatic empty line added just before the trait icon, for example there
    Crippling Dissipation Crippling Dissipation
    Crippling Dissipation
Clones cripple nearby foes when they are killed.
    Cripple.pngCripple (3s): -50% Movement Speed
    Book.pngNumber of Targets: 5
    Radius.pngRadius: 240
should not be an empty line. Could you please look into this issue? :) This does not happen for skill templates
    Steal Steal
Shadowstep to your foe and steal from them.
    Range.pngRange: 1,200
and when it is used outside of unsorted lists. Also maybe the label would look better without the bold text, it would be more readable when used in the middle of the page. --Eremko (talk) 23:51, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Was planning to unbold and make it blue so it looks like a link instead. I'll do that now. And interesting find! Maybe that will help explain why it can't be used in a bullet point list? « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 13:14, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
I found out that this UI glitch affects all templates and it's caused by new line characters ... that's just so strange. When you remove all new line characters from templates, it works in unsorted lists, this seems like some kind of bug in MediaWiki. Strange. We have to find some kind of workaround, we can't just remove new lines from templates, that's insane =) --Eremko (talk) 22:19, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
Agreed, for now I think we can use them in our pages without bullet points. Or better yet, we may be able to create a template for using those templates. I'm sure we can add our own bullet points on the outside if need be. But if we encase each variation (which is where I think they're used most in bullet point format) inside a grey box or something it will be just as pretty and cool. Perhaps col1 shows the trait to change, col2 shows traits that are feasible to change it to and col 3 is the explanation for them. What do you think of this idea? « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 22:49, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
It's a generic problem of MediaWiki and I've found a solution, but ... meh ... that's so ugly, but we probably should do that. What even Wikipiedia uses in their templates to add new lines is ... comments, look what I did with that mesmer trait, I found this solution here: ... I can write a script to do this automatically for all templates, but I don't know, it's so ugly ... but probably the only "correct" way to do it in MediaWiki since MediaWiki does not like new line breaks in templates. I prepared script that can execute this on all Trait + Skill templates. This would fix things and we should be able to inline skill into unsorted lists (there is so much of these in the guides, when you look into them). Just let me know what do you think, it's ugly but it's probably the way it should be done. I'm not executing yet. --Eremko (talk) 00:01, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
If it's just the backend that's ugly, I don't really care. That is up to you since you are in charge of maintaining them :) Added functionality is nice whether we do it with this "fix" or with the import in another template method. We can always do both too! « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 00:13, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Chase, can you please prepare tooltip templates for Runes and Sigils for me? :) They will probably look very similar to what we already have. I started working on Runes + Sigils parser yday and I'm like 70% done with it. I should have it ready soon (if I won't be too bothered by reddit vandalisms here :D). Thanks. --Eremko (talk) 13:32, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Great, thanks for the templates man, looks good. I will work with this. Regarding Minor/Major/Superior runes, I'll probably parse only Superior ones (don't think we need minor/major - if so, we can do them later) and I prefer to put them into separate templates anyway, e.g. I'll create the templates in this structure: Template:Rune/Superior Rune of XXX and Template:Sigil/Superior Sigil of XXX. And then I'll update Gw2rune and Gw2sigil templates and I'll make the type (Superior|Major|Minor) optional so when you use template as {{Gw2rune|Rune of the Pack}} it will automatically redirect you to Superior one (so the Superior string will be optional but it will be visible in the tooltip). Regarding sigils cooldown in title details, that's a good idea, we can do that. --Eremko (talk) 18:05, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Roger. Looking forward to this update :) Gonna work on a "concise" summary template that shows all the key information at the very top for all the simple builds. « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 18:14, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Check this out mate: Eremko/Sandbox =) let me know what do you think. I also experimented with boon icons inside of runes, but it probably does not look very good (what do you think?). Anyway, let me know if you wanna make some changes to the templates, if not - I will batch create the templates automatically tomorrow. --Eremko (talk) 00:46, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
I DIG IT! Except that sigils should default to 30px instead of 52px. It's the last condition in the first giant if statement block. Also I might have to tweak the size of the boons icons in the sigil. Not sure that is working out right now. BUT WOW! Idk how you work so fast :) You got all those done super quick! Good job :) « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 02:36, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi there, let's finish this! :D Do you have some time for few templates? If so, please do them in this priority order (across several days of course, when you have time): 1) PvP Amulets (you can already find example in my Sandbox, 2) Food Buffs, 3) Effects (Swiftness, Might, ...). Thanks a lot. --Eremko (talk) 22:58, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

It's awesome, ty! :D --Necromancer Icon Color.pngHanz(talk) 06:52, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Definitely! Didn't want to tell you until I figured out how to embed youtube vids. Spent a long time trying yesterday, but still stuck on that part. « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 22:49, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

WvW Section Updates[edit]

Guardian AH Frontliner and Necro Wells Backline should be set. I need to clean up the Elementalist build a bit and then take a look at the Warrior build more closely. I'll keep you updated. -- Haru (talk) 22:23, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Okay excellent :) Good work so far! Ele one is really cluttered. I think warrior might be in a better position / easier to fix. What do you think about writing GvG build pages? Like Build:GvG Tanky 10 Man and then listing idk 8 guardians, a warrior, and ele or something with the builds/gear they'd be using. Would this be silly or helpful in your opinion? Conversely, would people be able to write GvG guides that counter a guide that would be written like that? « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 22:25, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
It's an interesting proposition, but compositions are made to fit the guild and not the other way around. For example, just because a guild like Agg succeeded greatly with their meta, doesn't mean someone can just pick it up and have similar success. Agg's meta fit their guild's strengths. So while having some analysis page of popular compositions may be interesting, I'm not sure how valuable it would be for actual GvG guilds. -- Haru (talk) 09:47, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

How can I gather some community feedback regarding the WvW Zerg builds that we've curated thusfar? Doing it on individual build talk pages seems to limited. -- Haru (talk) 01:35, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

General PvE[edit]

Lol I've been thinking about expanding that section just today and wanted to start with a guard build :D Will upload an engi tomorrow, from reddit. --Necromancer Icon Color.pngHanz(talk) 21:19, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

We shoudl have more general builds than any other section xP Just need to define the builds in that section, like running/farming/champtrain etc. Look forward to your engi build tomorrow :) Been so busy haven't had a chance to do anything, figured I'd do an easy build « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 21:55, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
Also, could you change the name of this section? Currently it's a bit confusing because it says "PvE" in the template, while it should be "General" or General PvE, or Open-World, idk. But PvE alone can be a bit misleading :P --Necromancer Icon Color.pngHanz(talk) 09:03, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
Yeah idk why it's doing that... I think General or General PvE is good, gonna try to look into it now « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 15:10, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
Ty ^^ Probably "General PvE" then, so people don't think it's good for other areas too. --Necromancer Icon Color.pngHanz(talk) 15:15, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
Eeps, i have already changed it to General. I think it might be easy to change to General PvE, probably just have to move the pages, I might have done it a bad way this time around. But General should be okay I think, the description says General PvE in the category pages, I'll see if I can add that to the rating box somehow « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 15:26, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

New main page[edit]

Just a minor thing, could you add "PvE" between the world completion icon and the subcategories, same with WvW and PvP? Just to make it more obvious :P Also, it's looking great already :D --Necromancer Icon Color.pngHanz(talk) 17:23, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Oh wow, I did NOT notice this lol! So far I haven't heard any complaints, I think they will figure it out pretty easily xP. What do you think about making another page that people could click on near the bottom perhaps that just says "list of all builds" and it's a page that shows all the builds without the clicking to expand the categories? It would be a very long page, but perhaps useful? « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 14:42, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Nah I think it's perfect as it is. I really like the new overall design too btw. --Necromancer Icon Color.pngHanz(talk) 15:12, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Awesome! Thank you ^_^ « Chase ♥ ♥ ♥ » 20:37, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
