Maybe it never coalesced into something brilliant. Maybe it never made it off the ground floor. Maybe we based our better ideas off of it. Basic builds are anywhere from downright bad to just shy of being good enough to showcase. These builds share the widest ratings and can lead to wildly differing levels of success.

Seeker's Amulet
Seeker's Amulet.pngSeeker's Amulet
+1050 Power +1050 Precision +560 Concentration +560 Ferocity

Explanation

  • Seeker Amulet drastically increases damage by increasing quickness uptime from Lesser Haste and Be Quick or Be Killed, which is vital to get the +200 power/precision boost from BQoBK, Has synergy with the other boons provided by the Deadeye traitline (with leadership rune, the uptime on perfectionist boons is 80% of the time, assuming you constantly re-mark targets)
  • Signet of Shadows increases mobility with the lack of Acro (from the standard S/D). Defense or offense potential on a 30 (20 after the buff) cooldown
  • Iron Sights to add to survivability lost from using Seeker's Amulet
  • Leadership makes up for the loss of condition clears from signet of agility. Also synergizes with BQoBK and other deadeye boons. Adds small bit of vitality and toughness to extend survivability
  • Unforgiving adds more consistent CC's to the build, which standard SD lacks
  • Sigil of Courage due to synergy with increased boon-uptime
  • Sigil of Savagery to Extend CC's

Usage

  • See sword dagger build. Only difference is decrease in survivability and an increase in burst/utility, along with a few deadeye specific mechanics
  • Use Deadeye's mark on near-downed targets and mesmer illusions to stack quickness
  • strip stability with sword skill 3 chain before applying mark (will allow daze/stun to land)
  • use shadow meld offensively to enable tactical strike. Keep track of enemy stunbreak cooldowns, and make sure to drop tactical strike after they burn multiple stun-breaks, as tactical strike is an extremely lengthy CC

Pretty much I feel as though now is the time to talk about Deadeye, because of the changes done to mark. Now when u mark a target a second time you don't lose malice stacks, so I think that Sw/d Deadeye may be playable in solo q. I however doubt that anyone would choose sw/d deadeye over core sw/d and would probably play d/p before deadeye in top teir team play. This being said I do think this build is atm fundamentally doomed to fail. 1.)Acro is still going to be strong as long as swindelers gives 10% dmg and a second steal 2.)Stun and some boon duration is great - for Sw/p, because of haste time and stun lock duration 3.)There isn't enough stealth in this build to let u take an amulet with no vitality 4.) Many of the skills selected are the worst possible ones- like Signet of Shadows which is probably the worst signet in gw2. In conclusion, I get the strong feeling this build would only work up to the silver or gold lvl and would need alot of work done on it to make it acceptable for any sort of sPvP play.

I don't think Seeker amulet is viable in general, letalone coupled with thief's low base HP and armor. If you want to give every bit of sustain then Berserker would still make more sense because it helps you kill. But doesn't matter how you spin it, Deadeye is gimmicky and bad in general.

For builds that need a lot of boon duration Leadership rune usually solves the problem because the sacrifice is minimal, making Seeker even less tempting than it already is.

I am probably one of the biggest enthusiasts for the concentration stat in PvP on this site, and even then, it is incredibly hard to justify running for this build. It's absolutely an interesting approach to the build though-- concentration is most worth running when a build can output substantial amounts of resistance, quickness, or alacrity (probably in that order). In this case, the quickness even gives a massive offensive stat buff.

Unfortunately, there are no defensive stats on the PvP concentration amulets, and 12k HP with low armor is just far too low to run effectively on a melee build. While quickness is going, you do get ~10% more overall damage, but the rest is just because of quickness, which could be taken on the traditional S/D build if you really want to open up the burst.

This build also gives up one of S/D's other major strengths, which is its steal synergy. For PvP, base thief's steal skills are generally far more impactful as a whole than Deadeye's straight stat steal skills. Being able to cast steal twice as often for twice as much mobility, healing, damage, and 4X steal skills is a powerful part of the S/D kit that this build loses. This build also loses the powerful vigor that traditional S/D has.

Ultimately, it gives up way too much to try to exploit an interesting trait. I like the idea, but in PvP, versatility stays king, especially if you're giving it up for 10% more damage.
