Overview

Condi Staff Mirage is a slow-paced build. Somewhat similar to Build:Mirage_-_Condi_Mirage, this build revolves around spamming Chaos Vortex to both deal damage and generate boons. The build provides permanent 25 might and some alacrity to yourself and nearby allies.

This build also features a very powerful tagging option, which is noted below.

Weapon Variants

There are no weapon variants. This particular build requieres two staves to function.

When tagging events, you can consider swapping one staff for a Greatsword with Sigil of Superior Sigil of Fire and Sigil of Superior Sigil of Stamina. This provides low damage but great tagging pottential by spamming Split Surge, but you will need gear with significant Power, such as Viper Viper, to ensure tag credit.

Skill Variants

  • Mirror - projectile reflection.
  • Sand Through Glass - evade, stunbreak, and Mirage Mirror.
  • Mantra of Resolve - if conditions are a problem.
  • Feedback - to reflect projectiles.
  • Mimic - situationally powerful.
  • Portal Entre - can be useful, especially when zerging.
  • Blink - stunbreak and movement.
  • Mass Invisibility - to run past enemies or commune with Hero Points in stealth, use together with Prismatic Understanding for longer stealth, but change the trait afterwards.

Specializations

  • Renewing Oasis - permanent Regeneration Regeneration, which helps with both damage and defense due to the Chaos traitline. If taking this, it may be a good idea to use the Dueling variant below.
  • Mirage Mantle - extra defense.

Dueling

Illusions performs best when fighting bosses and situations where you don't need to be constantly creating new clones. On situations where you need higher clone generation, such as when your clones can easily die or when fighting trash mobs, you can swap Illusions for Duelling for increased clone generation at the expense of sustained damage.

  • Blinding Dissipation + Ineptitude - trades clone generation for higher bursts of Confusion; very strong against bosses that attack fast, which isn't often the case in general open world play.

Equipment

This set uses gear similar to Build:Mirage_-_Alacrity_Support_Condi_DPS, making it a good option for general PVE

Variant Equipment

Gear

  • Celestial Celestial - trades a large amount of DPS for boon duration and defense.
  • Trailblazer Trailblazer - trades DPS for heavy defense.

Runes

  • Rune of Superior Rune of Tormenting - provides Regeneration Regeneration for minor healing and sinergy with the Chaos traitline, but underperforms when you already have other sources of Regeneration and provides lower damage.
  • Rune of Superior Rune of the Undead - when using Trailblazer Trailblazer gear, Undead runes will be your second best option for the set behind Rune of Superior Rune of the Nightmare.

Sigils

  • It is strongly recommended to stick with the sigils listed; they provide the highest DPS. If it is required to replace one of the sigils, replace Sigil of Superior Sigil of Malice, as Sigil of Superior Sigil of Energy is absolutely core to the build.

Consumables

Food
  • Any ascended food is superior to any other food you could use. Steak for power, flatbread for conditions. Budget versions of these foods exist and are acceptable.
  • - farming
  • - DPS
  • - defense
Utility
  • (and variants) - farming

  • - dps if using gear with high toughness

Usage

Mirage Cloak

Mirage Cloak is the profession mechanic of the mirage. Whever you dodge or pick up a Mirage Mirror, you enter Mirage Cloak for 0,75 seconds, dodging incoming attacks. You also gain access to Ambush skills for 1,5 seconds, which replace your first weapon skill. Mirage Cloak does not have a cast time, allowing mirages to dodge at any time, such as when casting other skill, when reviving someone, or even during the effects of crowd control.

Clone generation

  • Phantasms become clones after attacking, so Phantasmal Warlock will summon 2 clones.
  • Phase Retreat summons 1 clone, but be mindful of the forced teleport, don't teleport into enemy AoEs.
  • When using Self-Deception, using Deception skills such as False Oasis or Crystal Sands while in combat and with 1 or more clones alive, will summon 1 clone at your location that attacks the nearest target.
    • Clones summoned by Deceptive Evasion when using the Dueling traitline are created in the same manner, and they inmediatly use Chaos Vortex due to Infinite Horizon.
  • Since your clones are very important in this build, you can time your dodges to make your clones dodge dangerous attacks thanks to Infinite Horizon. This trait also stunbreaks your clones when you dodge.

Boons

  • This build provides significant Alacrity Alacrity uptime to yourself and nearby allies because of how much you cast Chaos Vortex. However, try to let your clones attack once inbetween Chaos Orbs for higher damage.
    • You will also provide permanent 25 might to yourself and nearby allies.
  • Winds of Chaos will also provide Fury Fury to allies it bounces to.

Damage

  • The bast majority of your damage comes from auto attacking and casting Chaos Vortex with 3 clones up, thanks to Infinite Horizon. Try to always have 3 clones up.
  • Use Phantasmal Warlock to create 2 phantasms that later turn into clones. If runnig the Illusions traitline, this will also provide you some boons.
  • Whenever you have three clones up and you can quickly summon three more, shatter with Cry of Frustration for extra damage. You can also use Mind Wrack if your target is about to die.
  • Weapon swap any time you're under 50% endurance.

Defense

  • Use Jaunt to reposition and cleanse 1 condition.
  • Abuse your Sigil of Superior Sigil of Energy for frequent dodges.
  • Sand Through Glass can provide a strong stunbreak.
  • You dodge very often, so you'll dodge some attacks without even trying.
  • Chaos Armor blinds trash mobs.
  • Against enemies with projectiles, hide behind your clones.
  • Thanks to Bountiful Disillusionment, your Shatters provide stability stability. However, do not rely on this as this build wants to have high clone uptime.

Crowd Control

  • Interrupts: Chaos Storm
  • Diversion
  • Signet of Domination (as a last resort)

Condi Mirage, both staff and axe, is my overall favorite. Pick which to use based on your taste and what you're doing. This is easy since they're identical except for weapons and talent tweaks. Staff, because it's simple, ranged, and has decent group support, is better for people new to the class, against enemies you find challenging, in groups, or for people who just don't like melee. It's the first build I had success with against harder enemies when starting the game. Axe, with much stonger burst, better cleave, and higher overall damage, is better for soloing less challenging enemies and mowing down packs. I also find it more fun--the staff version is so simple it can get boring. The biggest drawback for both is clone management. Clones die when their target dies, are easily killed by stronger enemies, and are used up when you shatter, so you constantly have to make more. Some people don't like this.

I've been running the same Occam's based mesmer/mirage build FOREVER. This one completely trounces it. I slapped it together with just exotic and a Mabon relic (can't get Akeem yet) and it still kicks butt. SO easy. Toyed around with White Mantle in Doric, they might as well have been Harathi in Kessex lol. Can't wait to build this completely to spec (Ascended with infusions). Five stars.

Re-evaluating this build in 2023 after major balance patches, it's clear this build's power hasn't diminished at all. It is still one of the most versatile open world builds. It maintains high DPS, high utility, easy tagging with a Greatsword (I run full viper), and is very simple to actually play. A simple build with very high returns on investment. To me, this is one of the top 5 builds in the open world section.
