Since the nerfs it's not the worst thing ever, just not cheese anymore, which is healthy for the game. Still has good damage and mobility.

This build has a completely broken level of damage compared to other specs running right now. FB bunker can counter it but still easy to burst kill. Lol this is a thing /gg.

Incredible condi burst, incinerates most enemies in a matter of seconds. It might not be the best idea, but I'm using the axe for both main hand slots and use blink instead of portal entre, for mobility. It's perfect as long as you don't run into very tough-to-beat classes like guardians or druid-rangers and it's very good for point capturing imo.

I still prefer staff because it makes condi mirage more versatile and durable, but this version has its moments too. The burst can be really good.

Excellent mobility and duel potential. The build has less teamfight potential than the staff build. It also can have trouble versus ranged builds especially while Axe is equipped. Lacks Phase Retreat when in a pinch, and not as much condition cover as carrion ineptitude. However, the evade uptime on this build is superior to the condi counterpart, which lets you dip in 1v2's and, by chance, even win it. If you play smart you can pretty much never die.

I was playing something similar and now I'm trying this build. The issue I'm having (both with this and my build as well) is the insane lack of mobility that this has compared to when using Sword MH and a blink (and eventually staff). It's got insane damage and good escapes, but it sucks when you need to move from one point to another to 1up a teammate, which is why I'm still on the edge to consider this worth of a 100% grade. So I've been testing this build a couple more times using sword MH with pistol. It doesn't do much in terms of conditions compared to scepter, but it really helps with mobility and the occasional snare you may want to throw on a running enemy. Also sword 2 helps a lil bit in survivability and deals a nice amount of damage. Besides that, the damage this is dealing is insane, especially cause it's AoE. Weaknesses: condition damage (as you have barely any condi clear), unexpected burst.

I'd second the suggestion to pair sword with torch as you need mobility, and another interrup is always good. I played a very similar build prior to the confusion nerf. To my surprise, even after the nerf, the build is very capable. With all the evades + stuns, and condi I'm able to do 300 - 400k damage per match.
