Mirage basics

  • Dodge rolling is replaced by Mirage Cloak, which is more or less the same thing but allows you to cast skills and grants access to ambush attacks for its duration:
    for Sword and
for Greatsword. Ambush skills replace the autoattack of the weapons for 1.5 seconds and can only be used once per Mirage Cloak activated.
  • Pressing dodge grants Superspeed Superspeed, breaks stun, and removes a condition thanks to the trait
    • Dodging out of a CC effect will however completely halt your endurance regeneration for several seconds, so usually it's beneficial to just wait out the short duration, less dangerous ones instead of breaking out.

  • can be used to strip Stability Stability off of targets before dazing them. Stability will prevent both the CC and the vulnerability from being applied.
  • can be used as a substitute for
when that's on cooldown. CoF deals much less damage than MW does, but it's better than nothing especially for finishing low HP enemies or stripping boons.
  • Channeling
    will reduce the cooldown of
    by 15 seconds.
  • Thanks to the trait
can each create an additional clone as long as you have at least 1 active clone.
  • Because of
Interrupting a skill deals damage and disables it for 15 seconds.
  • There are several tools for stomping downed enemies including Blind Blind on shatter or just mirage cloak in general
  • is the strongest mobility skill in the game. Its range is big enough to reach between capture points on most maps, and can be used by allies too. How you use it depends entirely on your creativity! A few starting points:
    • Drop a portal on a capture point you've just won and move on. Come back with
if you need to defend it. Alternatively, drop a portal if you're losing the fight and move on. Now your enemy is forced to either afk on the point or hand you a free decap as you can just come back after they had left.
    • If your team is losing a fight, cut your losses by making your team escape through an already deployed portal, potentially steamrolling another capture point by outnumbering your enemy there.
    • Use the portal on the brink of death,
while waiting for it to open, and go through to safety.
    • Open your portal, start finishing off the target immediately, take the portal, then take the portal again near the end of the animation. Gfycat:
      Portal Stomp

  • A defensive set that can be used for mobility both out of and in combat.
  • Use the Sword ambush skill,
for mobility. Wait for the Superspeed Superspeed to fall off before executing the ambush skill in order to maximize distance traveled. You can also use this skill for a minor burst combo:
  • deals heavy damage against targets without boons. Auto attacking is the best source of cleave on this set.
  • is mainly used as a defensive skill with a Distortion-like effect, but also offers decent cleave damage if the targetd is stunned/has enough Vulnerability stacks.
  • is the only source of Stealth in the build and a minor condition cleanse.

Optimal burst combo

  • Keep in mind that this is pretty much the perfect scenario, you'll often have to resort to shorter versions of this combo based on which parts are not on CD and whether the target has Stability Stability or not.
  • Try to execute it as fast as you can, ideally in ~1 second. May take some practice to get it right.
  1. Optional - get into combat on Sword/Torch and swap to Greatsword to proc

Your next attack after you swap to this weapon while in combat inflicts 5 stacks of vulnerability for 5 seconds. (Cooldown: 9s)
can also be used for the Stealth and a bit of added damage - if you do this, then wait until the Stealth almost runs out before proceeding with the rest of the burst.
  2. Optional - dodge while doing your burst combo to avoid getting interrupted.
  3. Pre-cast
, preferably in melee range in order to reduce the travel distance of the projectile and make the bounces go off faster and with better accuracy. Also to gain some extra Might Might stacks. This skill spawns a clone on the first hit.
  4. Daze your target with
(Mantra skill) if possible, shortly before
hits the target. If it's not available then other sources of daze will do just fine, such as
. With Mirage Thrust you can't pre-cast MB, but the Quickness from the Greatsword weapon swap sigils should make up for it. This step is to make it easier to land the burst in general and to make it benefit from the damage modifiers of
    (if taken) and
  5. at your target right after the clone from
has spawned, this will deal some extra damage and get you a 2nd clone from
  6. to shatter the clones. More damage in melee range because the caster too counts as a clone for shatter skills.
  7. for some extra damage.
  8. Optional -
can be used right before or after the burst.
  9. Optional - Use a CC after the burst such as
if the target isn't dead and tries to heal up.

Replace Torch with Focus for mobility,CC,cleave. Dont run mantras, rune signet of midnight for invis/blind/stunbreak and signet of illusions more multiple clones and shatter resets/double distortion, and run imagine burden over powerblock and this build is a 5/5 stars. Literally yeets anyone and the dmg output/disengage is insane.

Even though greatsword is half-joke of a weapon, with April 2019 patch (and after continuous condi mirage nerfs) this build becomes a cc beast. However, nerfs to master dueling traits (blind and reflect) don't help since Fencer's Finesse is not really worth taking.

It lacks the defense and the sustained damage of the condi variation but it's better in teamfights (in-burst-out) and equal at small skirmishes. It can't 1v1 as good.

Other than being a sidenoder, can be played as +1/decapper with the help of sword ambush but in this case you'll be way behind a sword/dagger thief.

(This review is strictly for solo queue or at most duo queue, in gold2 and above.)

Mirage patches many of the weaknesses of shatter mesmer. Making dodge work like a mini distortion which can cover the entire burst combo while also breaking stun and cleansing conditions is just amazing, even thieves are much less dangerous now. GS was little more than a gimmick only taken for one burst combo, but the (now buffed) ambush adds some solid ranged damage to it, although that's a relatively small buff it's still something. Sword ambush makes the already great mobility simply god tier.

EDIT: this just keeps getting nerfed for whatever reason.. still playable but the difference between condi and power mirage now is night and day.

The power shatter Mirage build is one of the strongest build in the PvP community, where you usually see at least 1 of them each match. It's only real weakness is its lack of condition cleanse, which makes it weak against the current meta condition Mesmer (Scourge not being a problem cause the shades can be easily avoided).

You can replace Portal for Mantra of Pain (so Mobility for extra damage) to deliver fatal blows to ennemies, mostly causing a "one shot" death by pressing multiple skills into a very short span of time. It can easily replace a Thief in a composition since the mobility is similar to the Thief's.

Some changes can be made to the traits too. Taking Desperate Decoy can add up to your survivability, and let's you charge your mantras in longer fights. Renewing Oasis can also be taken for the regeneration in Mirage Cloak, which actually helps dealing with some conditions.

All in all a very strong build that requires practice to get down to its fullest potential.

I play this build from time to time and it never fails to impress. I take Illu Ambush for optional slot and Imagined Burden for some nastiness but everything else is the same. The playstyle is very fun, nets powerful burst while being able to dodge while bursting which is tremendous. Sword ambush allows for mobility that Power Mes/Chrono lack. All in all a very powerful build... and certainly one of the overlooked ones. Its ranged damage is superior to cMirage's ranged staff damage IMO ... not to mention the might stacking is better for this build too.

Mirage provides durability and out of combat mobility that Power Chronomancer always lacked but significantly reduces the number of ways to CC a target. Recent nerfs to some of its worst matchups as well as the recent mesmer changes have made this build more effective.

The phantasm changes as well as the mind wrack ammo trait both give this build additional reach that help it in rougher matchups.
