Renegade - Condi DPS

The community gave this build a rating, making it top-tier: Great

Focused on: Condition damage

Designed for: Raids and Fractals

Expansions required: Path of Fire Builds

Difficulty:
Hard
This build was last updated on October 30, 2024 and is up to date for the October 8, 2024 patch.

Overview

The condition DPS Renegade build for raids. This build has a difficult rotation which requires lots of practice to perform well with. In exchange for the difficulty it brings high sustained damage, high Vulnerability Vulnerability, and options for good CC and supportive auras such as Breakrazor's Bastion and Soulcleave's Summit.

Weapon Variants

Mace/Axe, Shortbow and Spear are all very close to each other in terms of damage, and can be mixed and matched depending on your preferences:

  • Spear somewhat mitigates the very slow ramp time of renegade, making it a strong option.
    • Spear/Spear has the highest potential DPS and is perhaps the easiest weapon set to do well on, but unlocking the full potential requires much more precision than other options, as well as having the most forced movement. It also requires slightly different sigils.
    • Spear & Mace/Axe can deal almost as much damage as Spear/Spear but has a faster ramp and more structure. The major downside is the difficulty in spending energy fast enough on Mace/Axe.
    • Spear & Shortbow is the lowest damage of all the options, but comes with the advantage that both weapon sets are fully ranged. As this setup struggles to spend energy fast enough, it also means not having to deal with Charged Mists or forced movement on Spear.
  • For players that don't own Janthir Wilds, the best weapons are Mace/Axe and Shortbow.

Specializations

Trait Variants

  • For the Spear/Spear rotation Abyssal Chill performs slightly better.
  • Song of the Mists is a small DPS loss, and removes the need to worry about only legend swapping below 10 energy. This makes the rotation significantly easier, so may perform better for some players.
    • This is also recommended if running Spear & Shortbow
  • Righteous Rebel can be taken at roughly 10% DPS loss for roughly 50% Alacrity Alacrity.

Relic
  • On encounters with significant enough time where you cannot melee the boss, replacing the Sigil of Superior Sigil of Geomancy with a Sigil of Superior Sigil of Earth may be higher damage.
  • If using Spear/Spear, replace the Sigil of Superior Sigil of Earth with a Sigil of Superior Sigil of Demons and pair this Spear with Legendary Demon Stance.

Non-SotO relics

Unfortunately none of the core damage relics are particularly strong for condi renegade. You could pick an option that offers some utility instead, or:

  • Relic of the Aristocracy is trivial to maintain on Spear, and it could work on Mace/Axe & Shortbow if you switch the pairings of legends and weapons, so that you can build stacks up in Legendary Demon Stance with Echoing Eruption, and Icerazor's Ire in Legendary Renegade Stance.
    • You should use (or ascended versions) with this.
  • Relic of the Krait wouldn't be completely terrible.

Consumables

Food

    • You could also use (or ascended versions) - this is only a small DPS loss

Usage

Rotation Fundamentals

Every ability a Revenant has (apart from autoattacks) uses energy. While this regenerates slowly on its own, you will typically spend more that you can regain so swapping legend is necessary. Swapping legend resets energy to 50 (or 75 if you swapped below 10 energy and are using Charged Mists) so in general you will want to do this off cooldown so you can afford to keep using your skills.

For condi Renegade, you combine your legend swaps with weapon swaps to better spend energy and as legend swaps will also trigger weapon swaps, you can "double dip" on swap sigils (Sigil of Superior Sigil of Doom and Sigil of Superior Sigil of Geomancy) by legend swapping before you weapon swap.

Beginner Rotation Toggle

You cannot avoid really legend swapping on Revenant, but things can be simplified in two ways:

First, by taking Song of the Mists as the grandmaster trait in Invocation, you no longer have to worry about swapping only below 10 energy.

Second, you can opt to camp Shortbow. This is the higher damage weapon and also has the advantage of being ranged and not locking you into animations.

With this setup, use shortbow skills 2-4 off cooldown, and legend swap off cooldown as well.

  • When swapping to Legendary Renegade Stance, you will have enough energy to use Razorclaw's Rage and Icerazor's Ire once each - the timing isn't very important, just don't delay the next legend swap.
  • When swapping to Legendary Demon Stance, immediately activate Embrace the Darkness and leave it running - this pulses damage in a small area around you, so if you cannot be close to your target, stay in Legendary Renegade Stance.
Simplified Rotation (by Masel) Toggle

The next step will be to add in weapon swapping, but keeping Song of the Mists as the grandmaster trait in Invocation.

The fundamental ideas are the same, but shortly after legend swapping, you should also weapon swap. With only 50 energy to spend in each legend, it is better to pair Shortbow with Legendary Renegade Stance and Mace/Axe with Legendary Demon Stance. In comparison to the full rotation, this also has the convenient effect of pairing the ranged weapon with legend skills that can be used at range. You can also swap the positions of the Sigil of Superior Sigil of Geomancy with the Sigil of Superior Sigil of Earth on your weapons - this will ensure that all your melee damage is on the same set, and also allow you to remain in Legendary Renegade Stance if you are forced to be at range for an extended period of time.

Be aware that the pairing of legends and weapons is the other way around in the full rotation, so you may develop muscle memory that you then have to unlearn if you move on to the full rotation later.

Opener
Start on Legendary Renegade Stance and Shortbow

  1. Icerazor's Ire
  2. Razorclaw's Rage
  3. Sevenshot
  4. Legendary Demon Stance

Rest of the Rotation

  • When swapping to Legendary Demon Stance, immediately activate Embrace the Darkness and leave it running - this pulses damage in a small area around you, so if you cannot be close to your target, stay in Legendary Renegade Stance.
  • On Mace/Axe, use skills 2, 3 and 5 off cooldown.
    • If you start with Searing Fissure, you can get four uses off before switching back to Legendary Renegade Stance and Shortbow. This is secondary to ensuring you can legend swap off cooldown, so don't worry about it if you can't reliably use Bloodbane Path off cooldown or you think you won't have permanent Quickness Quickness and Alacrity Alacrity.
  • When swapping to Legendary Renegade Stance, you will have enough energy to use Razorclaw's Rage and Icerazor's Ire once each - make sure to cast Icerazor's Ire first so that it enhances Razorclaw's Rage, but otherwise the timing isn't very important, just don't delay the next legend swap.
  • On Shortbow, use skills 2-4 off cooldown.
    • If you start with Bloodbane Path, you can get four uses off before switching back to Legendary Demon Stance and Mace/Axe. This is secondary to ensuring you can legend swap off cooldown, so don't worry about it if you can't reliably use Bloodbane Path off cooldown or you think you won't have permanent Quickness Quickness and Alacrity Alacrity.

Video guide

Spear & Mace/Axe Rotation

Start on Mace/Axe and Legendary Renegade Stance. Maximising damage on the Mallyx sections involves weaving single autoattacks between other skills to ensure each pulse of Embrace the Darkness is enhanced. This can be very tricky to do without delaying your rotation, so it may be better to just use skills as fast as you are able.

Opener

  1. Icerazor's Ire - this buffs Razorclaw's Rage and makes it activate instantly
  2. Echoing Eruption
  3. Razorclaw's Rage
  4. Legendary Demon Stance
  5. Embrace the Darkness
  6. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap
  7. Abyssal Raze, Abyssal Strike
  8. Abyssal Force, Abyssal Strike
  9. Abyssal Raze, Abyssal Strike
  10. Abyssal Raze, Abyssal Strike
  11. Abyssal Blot, Abyssal Strike
  12. Abyssal Raze, Abyssal Strike
  13. Abyssal Force, Abyssal Strike
  14. Abyssal Raze, Abyssal Strike
  15. Legendary Renegade Stance

Kalla
After Temporal Rift, the focus needs to be on spending energy as quickly as you can to ensure you are below 10 before you legend swap. If you don't make it, use Heroic Command just before.

  1. Icerazor's Ire
  2. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap
  3. Searing Fissure
  4. Echoing Eruption
  5. Citadel Bombardment
  6. Razorclaw's Rage
  7. Misery Swipe Anguish Swipe Manifest Toxin
  8. Searing Fissure
  9. Misery Swipe Anguish Swipe Manifest Toxin
  10. Temporal Rift
  11. Misery Swipe Anguish Swipe - it is efficient to get two autos in here, but don't worry too much about it
  12. Searing Fissure
  13. Misery Swipe Anguish Swipe Manifest Toxin
  14. Echoing Eruption
  15. Legendary Demon Stance

Mallyx

  1. Embrace the Darkness
  2. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap
  3. Abyssal Force, Abyssal Strike
  4. Abyssal Raze, Abyssal Strike
  5. Abyssal Blot, Abyssal Strike
  6. Abyssal Raze, Abyssal Strike
  7. Abyssal Blitz - spam your auto during the movement and for some reason it causes all the mines to hit
  8. Abyssal Force, Abyssal Strike
  9. Abyssal Raze, Abyssal Strike
  10. Abyssal Strike until legend swap is available
  11. Legendary Renegade Stance
  12. Return to start of Kalla section.

Spear Rotation

The concept of Spear is rather simple. All your Spear skills reduce the cooldown of Abyssal Raze, which in turn is your most powerful ability.

The gist of the rotation is then to spam Abyssal Force and Abyssal Raze, while fitting in other high-damage skills with your remaining energy and legend swapping when you get below 10 to trigger Charged Mists.

While Abyssal Blitz is useful for energy use and the cooldown reduction, it is a DPS loss to cast and could be skipped on Kalla if you're close enough to phasing the boss.

If using two spears, start on the set with Sigil of Superior Sigil of Torment and Sigil of Superior Sigil of Doom. If not using, just ignore any weapon swaps.

Opener
Start in Legendary Renegade Stance.

  1. Icerazor's Ire - this buffs Razorclaw's Rage and makes it activate instantly
  2. Razorclaw's Rage
  3. Abyssal Raze
  4. Legendary Demon Stance
  5. Embrace the Darkness
  6. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap

Mallyx
The pulsing damage of Embrace the Darkness is boosted when a skill is used, though this effect can only be activated once per pulse. Due to the extremely low cooldown of Abyssal Raze, this can be triggered four times. A single autoattack is added after key skills to ensure that no pulses are wasted. This requires precision to avoid either cancelling Abyssal Strike, so if it may work out better to just use abilities as fast as you can.

Embrace the Darkness consumes ~65 of your total energy on the weapon. This leaves you with enough energy to use the following:

  • Abyssal Force twice
  • Abyssal Blitz once
  • Abyssal Blot once
  • Abyssal Raze four times

Once you get below 10 energy swap to Legendary Renegade Stance then weapon swap immediately after Icerazor's Ire.

Kalla
Immediately after swapping, use Icerazor's Ire followed by Razorclaw's Rage. You want to get a second use of Icerazor's Ire in before swapping back to Legendary Demon Stance. As you want to be very aggressive with Abyssal Raze while in Mallyx, you use it less here, and should aim for the following:

  • Citadel Bombardment once
  • Abyssal Force twice
  • Abyssal Blitz once
  • Abyssal Raze once

Once you use Icerazor's Ire the second time (and assuming you're below 10 energy), swap to Legendary Demon Stance then weapon swap immediately after Embrace the Darkness.

Mace/Axe & Shortbow Rotation

The full rotation is heavily optimised to ensure that you end up below 10 energy just as it is time to legend swap, to gain the extra 25 energy each swap from Charged Mists. This means the rotation needs to be performed well, as well as being very dependent on good Quickness Quickness and Alacrity Alacrity uptime.

Opener
Start in Legendary Renegade Stance and on Mace/Axe.

  1. Icerazor's Ire - make sure to cast this first, so that it enhances Razorclaw's Rage
  2. Razorclaw's Rage
  3. Echoing Eruption
  4. Legendary Demon Stance

Mallyx
The stronger effect of Embrace the Darkness can only be activated once per pulse, so a single autoattack is added after key skills to ensure that no pulses are wasted. This requires precision to avoid either cancelling Shattershot or delaying your legend swap, so it may be better in practise not to worry about it.

  1. Embrace the Darkness
  2. Searing Fissure
  3. Weapon swap Weapon swap
  4. Bloodbane Path, Shattershot
  5. Spiritcrush, Shattershot
  6. Sevenshot, Shattershot
  7. Bloodbane Path, Shattershot
  8. Shattershot until Bloodbane Path is available
  9. Bloodbane Path, Shattershot
  10. Sevenshot
  11. Spiritcrush
  12. Legendary Renegade Stance

Kalla

  1. Bloodbane Path
  2. Weapon swap Weapon swap
  3. Searing Fissure
  4. Echoing Eruption
  5. Citadel Bombardment
  6. Temporal Rift
  7. Misery Swipe - it is efficient to get a single auto in here, but don't worry too much about it
  8. Searing Fissure
  9. Auto-attack chain twice
  10. Searing Fissure
  11. Icerazor's Ire - make sure to cast this first, so that it enhances Razorclaw's Rage
  12. Razorclaw's Rage
  13. Misery Swipe Anguish Swipe - it is efficient to get two autos in here, but don't worry too much about it
  14. Echoing Eruption
  15. Repeat from Mallyx

General Tips

  • While in Mace/Axe, try to let your Auto Attack chain finish, as the last hits are very strong.
  • On most fights, there are going to be moments when you can't hit the boss, but you'll still gain energy. During these phases, use Heroic Command and Orders from Above to help keep boons up.

High DPS, though still somewhat susceptible to interruptions messing with energy management and ramps that damage incredibly slowly. Able to provide extra utility in an emergency such as high CC, boon rip, alacrity or healing.
