Builds for farming in large (10+) groups. These builds focus on range, survivability, mobility, and group support. Damage is not a significant factor.
Catch-all builds meant for general open world PvE. These do not typically perform well in zerg farming and are meant to be used for solo play or roaming with small (<10) groups.
Peu Research Center
Thanks to the hard work of Peureki, an open world commander, we now have access to the Peu Research Center Benchmarks, which can give you a good idea on where you might look to start farming.

We have several partner communities which help us shape some of the builds found here. They provide critical feedback and are a great place to learn how to farm, especially in open world.
Metabattle Discord Server
Is advertising our own server here cheating? Well, yes, but you should still join our Discord.
Overflow Trading Company
Overflow is a community that focuses on trading and farming. They're full of helpful individuals and provide a very active and well-managed trading forum. Overflow and their affiliates frequently host farming trains and have many resources for players looking to break into gold farming.
Our Open World Curator's guild of choice, Shiney Mayhem is a farming community that hosts frequent trains. You do not have to be a guild member to participate, though they're awesome enough that you should be one ;)
About This Section
When new players ask what build they should run, veterans often answer with “any build is viable in open world.” While this might be true for veteran players, it doesn't help players who are still learning the game. For someone coming into level 80 maps for the first time, or trying to do story instances alone, running with a random build could be frustrating.
These builds are designed for players who need help with open world and story content. They're divided into sections reflecting different situations one might want to build for in open world. Each build provides suggestions about what gear, traits, and skills will be the most effective and provide the best chance of success.
To all new and returning Guild Wars 2 players, we hope you find these builds useful!
Q: Can I play these builds in dungeons, fractals, and/or raids?
Q: I don't have the right stats/runes/sigils/unlocked traits for this build. Can I still play it?
A: Yes, but your effectiveness will be limited. Having the right gear and traits is important for maximizing a build's potential. You can still run a build that's close to the recommended build, but you should work your way up to the right gear/traits eventually. Some builds will not function without certain traits, so its worth looking into.
Q: I haven't reached level 80 and don't have these skills/traits unlocked. What should I do?
A: Under level 80 you shouldn't worry about running the absolute best build. Instead, you should try out different weapons, skills, and traits to learn how they work. If you start finding story missions/normal enemies difficult, make sure you're wearing gear appropriate to your level. If you aren't, you can always visit an Armorsmith or Weaponsmith which always offer basic gear within your level range.
Q: The build suggests (X weapon/skill/trait) but I find (Y weapon/skill/trait) more fun to use. Can I use that instead?
A: The short answer is "sure!". The long answer is that you should study the class and learn why those traits are being taken. From there you can make decisions about other traits or weapons based off your current knowledge of the game and optimize for your own fun while maintaining a decent build :)
Q: I would like to contribute suggestions/gameplay tips/new builds. Where do I start?
