Equipment
Usage
Elder's Spear
Lunging Strike — This is the ability you will be using the most and the way you can gain Spirit Spear Charges. This medium ranged ability not only does good damage but also slows down enemies hit while every Spirit Spear Charges increases your auto-attack damage and stacks up to 3. Make sure to use your auto-attacks as much as often while having Spirit Spear Charges as your main damage will mostly come from out-trading enemies with auto-attacks.
Impaler — Use this skill to dictate range and deal high damage to your opponents. You can also use this to setup your Breakthrough as long you still account for the short cast time of the skill before your character starts moving. Impaler will help a lot with making it easier for you and its preferred to wait for a successful Impaler to guarantee Breakthrough.
Breakthrough — This versatile skill can be used for both damage and also to purge enemy players. Use this after a successful Impaler or to deny an enemy's escape the moment they try to use a run skill. Passing through an enemy with this will purge all active buffs like the Heroic Charges of anyone using a sword. The long range of the ability also offers great mobility and helps you catch up with ease, rivalling the Elder's Carving Sword by having a longer range.
Life Leech — Each auto-attack will heal you for a small amount based on the HP your target lost. This helps a lot when trading hits with melee players in particular.
Elder's Assassin Jacket
Ambush — This ability offers you stealth that can be used in various ways. You can use the stealth to disengage from losing fights or simply to boost your damage as staying in stealth will increase your damage for a short duration after leaving stealth. You could use the Ambush to boost your damage and follow up with an Impaler + Breakthrough combo regardless of your Spirit Charges as your Breakthrough damage isn't based on the amount of Spirit Charges you have active.
Balanced Mind — This passive not only increases your damage output which makes perfect sense for this build.
Elder's Hunter Hood
Retaliate — This is your main defensive option, Retaliate increases your damage resistance and also reflecting 85% of incoming damage back to whoever dares to attack you during the effect. Use this in order to reflect high damaging spells like Death Curse or Pyroblast. Keep in mind however that not all skills can be reflected and this is when game knowledge comes in.
Balanced Mind — This passive simply increases your raw damage.
Elder's Soldier Boots
Rejuvenating Sprint — While you can use any other pair of plate boots, Elder's Soldier Boots is a great choice as it offers healing and is a popular enough choice. The Rejuvenating Sprint grants you a bit of healing and can help win a fight that way. Another good choice is the Wanderlust, especially when fighting a more mobile enemy.
Another good option are the Elder's Knight Boots for their Shield Charge ability that grants you a large shield and helps with your survival in certain fights where you are being out DPS'd.
Toughness — This defensive option is preferred for a bit of extra defence but you can use Courier if you need more weight.
Elder's Thetford Cape
Chain Lightning — This will activate with your auto-attacks and can hit up to 4 targets near the initial target you hit. The 15 seconds cooldown makes it a great choice for this build, allowing it to proc multiple times throughout a fight. Remember that the Chain Lightning can hit up to 4 targets in close proximity so be careful not to pull mob aggro. Another option would be the Elder's Avalonian Cape with higher damage but a longer cooldown while also being considerably more expensive.
Rotations
- You should always play to your advantage and keep yourself in the range where you can reach with Lunging Strike without exposing yourself and keeping your target at bay. Once you've settled into the fight with a mix of Lunging Strike and auto-attacks, follow up with Impaler and Breakthrough in a quick succession to make it tough to dodge and deal high damage.
Consumables
Major Healing Potion — The potion allows you to sustain yourself while trading damage with your enemies as you fight.
Beef Stew — Use this to increase your overall damage. You can also consider using Pork Omelette as it lowers your cooldowns, both work perfectly fine. Don't forget to use a 7.1 or 8.1 version if you are playing with an expensive set.
