Overview

This Elder's Infernal StaffElder's Infernal Staff build focuses on kiting enemies and delivering high single target DPS in quick bursts. It performs well as a solo build for open world PVP and Solo Mists but it can also do well on Greater Mists when coupled with a healer or a CC heavy build that allows you to deliver damage quicker. The build remains easy to learn and play as it has a very straightforward playstyle.

Keep in mind: Gear shown in this build is meant as a reference. Choosing the correct tier of gear is very tricky as there are many variables. Some of them being your budget, your spec and minimum Item Power requirements of your guild if used for ZvZ.

You should always check prices based on IP of the items. For example, a masterpiece quality 4.3 Elder's CryptcandleElder's Cryptcandle could be cheaper while providing roughly the same IP as an 8.0.

Usage

Elder's Infernal StaffElder's Infernal Staff

Fire BoltFire Bolt — This is your main damaging ability as it couples perfectly with both Aggressive CasterAggressive Caster and Mark of the RavenMark of the Raven. You should use this at all times to do damage without bothering with auto-attacks as this skill essentially replaces the auto-attacks.

Flame BlastFlame Blast — A great, versatile skill that can be used both offensively and as utility providing you a bit of extra movement speed. However, most of the time you want to use this ability on enemies. With it's instant cast time, you can start off the fight with it and use it on cooldown for movement and damage.

You should swap to Wall of FlamesWall of Flames vs enemies that have to be in melee range to apply their damage as you can play around the wall and kite them quite easily that way.

CombustionCombustion — This is the skill you use to trigger Mark of the RavenMark of the Raven and start your burst damage. You can also use this to interrupt the enemy casting as the ability fears anyone hit by it and leaves a trail of fire behind that also does the same short fear that is very similar to how Wall of FlamesWall of Flames works.

Aggressive CasterAggressive Caster — This will passively increases your damage as you make use of all your abilities, the 10% increases is good to have!

Elder's Cleric RobeElder's Cleric Robe

Everlasting SpiritEverlasting Spirit — While it takes good timing, Everlasting SpiritEverlasting Spirit is a great defensive ability to help you mitigate a lot of burst damage. Make sure to use this while anticipating damage from auto-attacks or other abilities as the first hit you take during the short duration of the Everlasting SpiritEverlasting Spirit will create the shield that makes you invulnerable and acts as a great defensive ability when you have your Wall of FlamesWall of Flames on cooldown or right after you've already used it on a melee enemy.

AggressionAggression — The passive offers you a great flat damage increase.

Elder's Hunter HoodElder's Hunter Hood

RetaliateRetaliate — Another defensive option, RetaliateRetaliate increases your damage resistance for a short duration while also reflecting 85% of incoming damage back to the attacker. You should try to use this against skills like Electric FieldElectric Field or other skills with high damage potential. Keep in mind that some abilities cannot be reflected (like Exploding ShotExploding Shot).

Balanced MindBalanced Mind — You want to choose this passive for the raw damage increase.

Elder's Guardian BootsElder's Guardian Boots

GiantGiant — This defensive is fantastic as it doesn't decrease your damage done and helps a lot with your staying power and denying enemy damage. Use this as your first defensive in order to force enemies to kite away and allow you to deal free damage through Fire BoltFire Bolt. You can change this skill to Rejuvenating SprintRejuvenating Sprint as well if you are up against a build that needs to be kited.

ToughnessToughness — This defensive option is preferred over AuthorityAuthority. You can also use CourierCourier if you need extra bag weight.

Elder's Morgana CapeElder's Morgana Cape

Mark of the RavenMark of the Raven — This cape skill pairs perfectly with Aggressive CasterAggressive Caster and increases your cast speed even more, allowing you to deal quick damage by simply spamming Fire BoltFire Bolt. Keep in mind that this skill is activated by using CombustionCombustion

  • This remains one of the easiest rotation. You want to start off by casting CombustionCombustion in order to trigger Mark of the RavenMark of the Raven and increase your cast speed. You should then start spamming Fire BoltFire Bolt while following your enemy. If they fight back, you should use GiantGiant to counter damage while making use of the Mark of the RavenMark of the Raven.

Consumables

Major Healing PotionMajor Healing Potion — Use this to keep your HP up. However, make sure that you aren't using it while GiantGiant is active because then you wouldn't be healing much as your max HP is increased by a lot.

Pork OmelettePork Omelette — The omelette is a good choice as it offers great cooldown reduction for all your spells. Not only this but it also increases your casting speed. Using a 7.1 is great as it offers you even more of the original stats without a great cost.
