Strengths
- Good Burst Damage
- Versatile
Weaknesses
- Low Mobility
Overview
This PvP build focuses on the Elder's Heron Spear and the high damage that can be delivered in quick bursts when using the weapon. It's great versatility makes it perform well in both mists and corrupted dungeons while also offering a good choice for 1vsX situations in open world or avalonian roads. With your build relying on a quick, yet easy to execute combo of Spear Throw and Forest of Spears for most of the damage. This build doesn't rely on stacking Spirit Spear Charges and that for offers an easier choice for new players looking to play spear.
Equipment
Usage
Elder's Heron Spear
Lunging Strike — This is the ability you will be using the most and the way you can gain Spirit Spear Charges. This medium ranged ability not only does good damage but also slows down enemies hit while every Spirit Spear Charges increases your auto-attack damage and stacks up to 3. This makes it important to always try and use auto-attacks between uses of Lunging Strike.
Forest of Spears — This AOE ability is a great follow-up for a successful hit of Spear Throw. The damage is applied quickly and the range is great, you can also use this to deny a push and deal damage in the start of a fight.
Spear Throw — Being a skill that deals high damage, the Spear Throw is important to hit as it stuns the enemy and deals its damage regardless of how far the enemy is. You can use this skill from point-blank or try to hit it from a distance once you've mastered its use!
Life Leech — Each auto-attack will heal you for a small amount based on how much HP the target lost. This helps a bit with your sustain as you kite targets.
Elder's Mage Robe
Purging Shield — You will get a damage resistance increase whenever you activate this ability, however, an enemy attacking you while this skill is active will also have all buffs purged from him too. This is very efficient at purging sword Heroic Charges or even runs triggered by your enemies. The duration is quite short but the skill remains very useful.
Aggression — This passive increases your damage output which is great to have.
Elder's Hunter Hood
Retaliate — While you have the option of switching to your Deflecting Spin on the spear (which is good against certain builds), having access to Retaliate helps a lot with countering builds that rely on high burst damaging abilities like Snipe Shot.
Balanced Mind — This passive simply increases your raw damage.
Elder's Knight Boots
Shield Charge — The use of Elder's Knight Boots offers a much needed defensive ability that even helps with your mobility. You want to use the Shield Charge on an enemy to gain the large HP shield when starting a fight. It is usually preferred to start the fight with this and transition instantly into Forest of Spears as the AOE is tough to move away from in time.
Toughness — This defensive option is preferred for a bit of extra defense as the extra 5% CC offered by the other passive isn't worth it.
Elder's Lymhurst Cape
Energy Reserve — The build remains rather mana hungry and this is where the Elder's Lymhurst Cape comes into play, offering you 80% of your maximum mana back once your mana went down to 40%.
Rotations
- You should start the fight by dashing to your enemy using Shield Charge, applying a shield to yourself before using Lunging Strike to slow down your target just enough so you can have an easier time hitting Spear Throw and transition into Forest of Spears. This will maximize the damage you deal. Once you've done the burst damage, you should go back to using a mix of Lunging Strike and auto-attacks (they are boosted by the Spirit Spear Charges) until your Spear Throw & Forest of Spears are off-cooldown again.
Consumables
Major Healing Potion — In order to maximize your survivability, you should use this potion to help sustain yourself during fights. Another option is the Major Gigantify Potion but that is mostly aimed at countering high burst damage.
Beef Stew — Use this to increase your overall damage! This will help a lot with bursting enemies, especially when using the Spear Throw & Forest of Spears combo. Try to use a 8.1 or even the 8.2 version to maximize the damage increase for a bit of extra silver.
