Overview

The Elder's Chillhowl build focuses on group PvE and performs incredibly well in Group Dungeons, Avalonian Dungeons, Hardcore Expeditions and Statics. Because of the Glacial Obelisk, you also help your team deal extra damage while decreasing their cooldowns.

Keep in mind: Gear shown in this build is meant as a reference. Choosing the correct tier of gear is very tricky as there are many variables. Some of them being your budget, your spec and minimum Item Power requirements of your guild if used for ZvZ.

You should always check prices based on IP of the items. For example, a masterpiece quality 4.3 Elder's Cryptcandle could be cheaper while providing roughly the same IP as an 8.0.

Usage

Elder's Chillhowl

Ice Shard — This is your main damaging skill when playing the Elder's Chillhowl as it does AOE damage and pairs perfectly with Aggressive Caster and Mark of the Raven, you should spam this ability on mob packs to maximize damage done.

Glacial Obelisk — This ability not only boosts your damage and cooldown rate, it does the same for allies that remain in the range of the Obelisk. You should place this on top of your Magic Rune and have allies stack up to make use of both.

Glacial Prison — Cast this ability on the lowest HP mob you can find in a pack after your tank pulls them. You can also use this on your tank to save them from dying but you should communicate with them before doing so. Once the ice prison ends, it will deal high damage to all mobs around its location.

Aggressive Caster — Every 4th ability you cast will grant you this buff that increases your cast speed and works perfectly with Ice Shard.

Elder's Royal Robe

Magic Rune — Place this rune onto the ground as the first skill used while your tank is stacking mobs, make sure to let your allies know that you are using this ability so they can move in and also receive the buff by staying in the rune.

Aggression — This is your only relevant choice as it increases your damage.

Elder's Royal Cowl

Perpetual Energy — This is the ability that helps a lot with your mana sustain and allows you to spam Ice Shard without running out of mana. It has a rather long duration which allows you to use the entire duration of Mark of the Raven.

Balanced Mind — You want to choose this passive for the damage increase.

Elder's Shoes of Tenacity

Blind Spot — Use this every time you have the chance to increase your DPS. It will also turn you invisible which can help when/if you are dealing with players trying to contest you in PVP. However, this cannot be used to drop aggro anymore as you aren't invisible to mobs.

Balanced Mind — Just another damage increase passive!

Elder's Morgana Cape

Mark of the Raven — This cape skill pairs perfectly with Aggressive Caster and increases your cast speed even more whenever its off cooldown and you use Glacial Prison. You want to keep track of this (top left of your screen under your name and HP) so you don't trigger it by mistake.

Rotations

AOE DPS ↴

• You want to start the rotation by placing down the Magic Rune and Glacial Obelisk before using Perpetual Energy to reduce your mana cost to 0. Use Glacial Prison on one of the mobs or the tank to activate Mark of the Raven and then spam cast Ice Shard.

Consumables

Major Energy Potion — Because the build is rather mana hungry, you want to use some sort of energy potion. Its best to use a t6 one as it offers 50% max mana regen coupled with 28% more over 7 seconds. Keep in mind that this potion ALSO lowers your cooldowns!

Pork Omelette — This is the perfect choice for the build as it offers both cooldown reduction and cast speed helping a lot by increasing the DPS output of your Ice Shard. Use a 7.1 version if you can afford it!
