Designed for: Leveling
Focused on: DPS and Melee
Difficulty:
Easy
Strengths
  • Very Tanky
  • Easy to Play
  • Solo Friendly
Weaknesses
  • Low Damage
  • Low Range

Overview

This Defender Leveling Build focuses on boosting AP (attack power) so you may deal damage on the Defender class, making up as much as possible for the generally low damage of the class. While the Defender is capable of doing good damage, it cannot be compared to the other actual DPS classes, making this class a bit difficult to level on through mob farming. Instead, you will have to do a lot more fetch quests instead.

Champion StrikeChampion Strike: This is your main damaging skill, even though it is single target, it does good damage and also make you hold aggro. Keep in mind that you should always use Champion StrikeChampion Strike right after an auto-attack as it resets your auto-attack cooldown and the skill does damage instantly. Champion StrikeChampion Strike can also later be upgraded into BlademasterBlademaster to deal considerably more damage.

Shield ThrowShield Throw: Use this to hit enemies and apply a stun while also damaging them and also reducing the cooldown of Shield ThrowShield Throw. Keep in mind however that if you miss this, the shield will fall onto the ground and you will have to pick it up. Whenever your shield is on the ground, you lose some armor.

AssaultAssault: This is your only real mobility and AOE skill as it lets you jump on top of enemies to deal damage and taunt them. This is later upgraded into Sweeping StrikeSweeping Strike to help with dealing AOE damage.

Stand Behind MeStand Behind Me: This is the perfect buff to use in order to kill enemies as you reflect all incoming frontal damage. You also cannot take any damage during this ability and allies behind you take considerably less damage too.

VanguardVanguard: This is an entirely passive skill which increases your armor and magic resistance depending on how many enemies are nearby (up to 6).

Mana BoostMana Boost: Important for leveling, use it whenever its up and you need some mana, very straightforward.

HealHeal: Same as Mana BoostMana Boost, it is perfect for the leveling and can help get you out of sticky situations without dying and having to run back to where you died.

Runes: Lamprey-commonLamprey & Scar-commonScar are fantastic for building up an AP buff while farming mobs and doing some extra damage. There is no real need to upgrade into Mantis-commonMantis & Jagged Scar-commonJagged Scar but this is an option if they drop for you or you find them for cheap on the marketplace.

Gear: Steroid Implant-uncommonSteroid Implant & Battle Sleeve-uncommonBattle Sleeve are perfect for leveling. While it is difficult to get your hands on Battle Sleeve-uncommonBattle Sleeve early on, they become much more available as you progress and start getting more drops. Until then, maximize damage by stacking a full set of Steroid Implant-uncommonSteroid Implant to counter the lack of damage coming naturally with playing a tank class like the Defender.

Consumables: Use Bread-commonBread alongside Sweet Baked Pumpkin-commonSweet Baked Pumpkin to recover HP and Mana. For extra stats, Biosteroids Shot-commonBiosteroids Shot gives more AP, and Small Joint-commonSmall Joint increases your crit chance. (Upgrade into Double Biosteroids Shot-commonDouble Biosteroids Shot and Strong Joint-commonStrong Joint once you are level 10).

With the max level currently being 20, it is unrealistic to assume anyone would have more than 15 weapon mastery before or at fresh level 20. If, for some reason you have more than that, consult the PVE Destroyer Build for more.

Rotations

Single Target / AoE Rotation ↴
AssaultArrow right.webpChampion StrikeArrow right.webpShield Throw

With one of the easiest skill rotations in the game, the Defender is capable of doing good damage while remaining very tanky. Begin by using AssaultAssault (or Sweeping StrikeSweeping Strike if you upgraded into it) to deal good AOE damage once you gathered the mobs together. Follow up with Champion StrikeChampion Strike (multiple times if you upgraded into BlademasterBlademaster). Then finish the rotation with Shield ThrowShield Throw. You can also use Shield ThrowShield Throw to stun enemies and keep them from channeling any dangerous skills that would result in you taking a lot of damage, so feel free to use Shield ThrowShield Throw throughout the fight as needed.
