1H Fire Staff Mists & Corrupted Dungeons PvP Build
Strengths
- High Burst Damage
- Versatile
- Easy to Play
Weaknesses
- Low Mobility
Overview
This Elder's Fire Staff build is the perfect choice for new players that look to perform well in solo PVP content, with a straight-forward gameplay that anyone can get used to easily. For Mists, this build also works nicely at clearing mob camps as the Fire Bolt can be swapped for Burning Field.
Equipment
Usage
Elder's Fire Staff
Fire Bolt — This is your main damaging ability, it launches a fire bolt on your target dealing damage but also setting them on fire, placing a DoT that stacks up to 5 times. Because of Aggressive Caster, your cast time will lower every time you cast 4 abilities. You want to always spam this skill on cooldown (it doesn't actually have a cooldown).
You can still use Burning Field if you are looking to mainly hit PVE mobs in Mists but shouldn't be used otherwise.
Wall of Flames — This is a fantastic defensive ability and you should use this to protect yourself when you use Fire Bolt. Because of how wide the wall is, opponents will try to move around it so you should always walk over it on the other side to dodge them and force them to walk around again while you keep burning them down.
Pyroblast — A very hard hitting ability on a very low cooldown. While it takes about a second to charge up, the range is great and hitting an enemy with this will also deliver the same damage to any and all enemies within 4m of the target so keep that in mind in case your enemy is within a group of mobs as that will pull aggro onto you.
Aggressive Caster — This will increase your cast speed for a few seconds every time you cast 4 spells. Because your Fire Bolt has no cooldown, this passive helps a lot.
Elder's Cleric Robe
Everlasting Spirit — While it takes good timing, Everlasting Spirit is a great defensive ability to help you mitigate a lot of burst damage. Make sure to use this while anticipating damage from auto-attacks or other abilities as the first hit you take during the short duration of the Everlasting Spirit will create the shield that makes you invulnerable.
While the Elder's Cleric Robe is a good cheap choice, you can also upgrade to Elder's Feyscale Robe once you've gotten a bit of silver as this essentially lets you have a second Wall of Flames.
Aggression — The passive offers you a great flat damage increase and its the best choice.
Elder's Hunter Hood
Retaliate — Another defensive option, Retaliate increases your damage resistance for a short duration while also reflecting 85% of incoming damage back to the attacker. You should try to use this against skills like Electric Field or other skills with high damage potential.
Balanced Mind — You want to choose this passive for the raw damage increase.
Elder's Soldier Boots
Rejuvenating Sprint — This remains one of the most popular runs in the game as it also recovers some of your HP during the run. You can use the alternative run that is Wanderlust too if you are chasing a target with more mobility too.
Toughness — This defensive option is preferred over Authority as the 5% CC duration doesn't help at all with this build.
Elder's Keeper Cape
Berserk — With only a few defensive abilities, Berserk is a great choice for when your HP drops below 70%, it will improve your overall damage by 50% and helps a great lot when using Fire Bolt.
Another much more expensive option would be Elder's Morgana Cape as it activates Mark of the Raven that further lowers your cast speed. However, keep in mind that this coupled with Aggressive Caster can easily run you out of mana so if you choose to use this, also take an Major Energy Potion.
Rotations
- Three casts of Fire Bolt followed by Pyroblast is a great rule of thumb to trigger your Aggressive Caster. Once you have this part of the rotation registered, you will have an easier time playing the build. Once Aggressive Caster is active, your Fire Bolt will be casted even faster for a short while too.
The rotation isn't particularly complex otherwise but you should definitely still use Wall of Flames as a defensive option.
Consumables
Major Gigantify Potion — With only a few defensive choices, the Major Gigantify Potion provides great value when trading damage. You should also keep a Major Healing Potion in your inventory though as that is also a good option.
Pork Omelette — The omelette is a good choice as it offers great cooldown reduction for your skills but it also provides you with extra Cast Speed. Try to use a 7.1 if possible as they are quite cheap.
