Ranger - PvP Build
- Great CC
- Good Solo Play
- Great Mobility
- High Burst Damage
- Squishy
Overview
This PVP Ranger build offers insane single target burst damage capable of killing off enemies with ease in the open world of Ashes of Creation. It is one of the top choices for caravan runs but also does fantastic in larger group PVP thanks to
Raining Death and
Scatter Shot hitting many enemies. This build's mobility remains a core part of it though with
Air Strike and
Disengage allowing you to move unhindered through the battlefield.
Skills
Feel free to ignore the skill unlock order and rely on your own judgement depending on what type of PVP you are doing.
Enhance Armament: Barbs and
Enhance Armament: Weight are interchangeable depending on the content you are doing and what you need to get out of it. While
Enhance Armament: Barbs offers considerably higher DPS, the kiting potential of
Enhance Armament: Weight can help a lot too, especially in small scale PVP.
Enhance Armament: Concussion is also decent against mage heavy groups but not amazing.
Make sure to always put
Thorns on a Tank.
Equipment
Once at Radiant gear level, start with The Hawk Bow then upgrade to either Nightreaver Longbow (more HP) or Pyrebrand Longbow (more glass cannon/damage oriented). Both are very good regardless. You can also consider opting for Moltruin/Rosarium armor set instead as long the HP meta remains in effect. Another set you can go for thats considerably cheaper and easier to get is the Gloomraider.
Weapons
Stamina
In PvP, the Ranger’s kiting ability is key to staying alive. Investing in
Escape Velocity is ideal, as it boosts your movement speed while sprinting in combat (default key C) and makes kiting enemies much easier, helping you avoid unnecessary damage. This becomes even more important later in the game, allowing you to kite players effectively while waiting for cooldowns or escaping ganks.
Next, put points into Recuperation Training and
Evasive Maneuver to increase your evasion rate while dodging. These upgrades also unlock
Springstep, which improves your mobility by extending your roll distance.
Finally, use your remaining points on the Guard Training branch to lower stamina usage when blocking (default key E). Adding
Mental Fortification is also a good option, as it decreases the chance of being crowd-controlled (CC’d) while blocking, which can be useful in certain scenarios.
Rotations
- Make sure you are using
Enhance Armament: Barbs for this before you make sure that
Hunt of the Bear is active. Use
Mark Prey and then continue with
Power Shot. Get some more focus by using
Salvo then use
Barrage to deal more damage to bleeding targets thanks to
Enhance Armament: Barbs. Follow up with
Snipe to deal very high damage before enemies can usually react to you.
- Continue the rotation with
Thundering Shot followed by
Raining Death as it deals extra damage when used on Shocked targets. Finish off the target with
Headshot once the target is below 50% HP. You can then also do
Lightning Reload and another
Headshot.
- First, ensure that both
Enhance Armament: Barbs and
Hunt of the Tiger are active. Use
Scatter Shot first to apply Bleed stacks on a group of enemies.
- Continue by putting down
Vine Field on top of the same enemies and turn the Bleed into Hemorrage, dealing even more dot damage quicker. This is also the perfect time to throw down some
Bear Trap to keep enemies rooted for your team to follow-up on with their own damage.
- Follow up with another
Scatter Shot then use
Thundering Shot to then apply the Shocked debuff on your main target and targets near it while also boosting
Raining Death damage to deal even more AOE DPS before using
Lightning Reload to use
Raining Death again.
- Make sure both
Enhance Armament: Barbs and
Hunt of the Tiger are active. Use
Scatter Shot to deal damage then use it again while the enemy comes towards you. Follow up with
Disengage to deal some damage and snare the target before using
Air Strike to root and setup a
Snipe into
Bear Trap keeping enemy locked down so you can do even mroe damage.
Power Shot and
Thundering Shot should deal high damage and then you can finish the target off with
Headshot. You can also reset
Headshot with
Lightning Reload to do it again.
