Gladiator - Spear + Greatsword PvE Build
- High AoE Damage
- High Single Target DPS
- Easy to Play
- Gear Dependant
Overview
This Gladiator Spear + Greatsword PvE build is one of the strongest melee DPS builds in Throne and Liberty. It is capable of dealing high AOE DPS just as well as it can do single target damage through skills like Guillotine Blade and
Death Blow. This build performs extremely well in all dungeon formats but is particularly good for Dimensional Trials thanks to the mix of high AOE and Single target DPS, making it much easier to time trials successfully.
Attributes

In this build, prioritize investing into Strength and Dexterity. These two stats will boost your damage and improve your chances of landing heavy attacks, as well as increasing skill damage due to the Vital Force passive. You should aim to get 50 points into Strength for the extra heavy attack chance as well as all the extra health you get. Dexterity should be your next priority to enhance critical hits, with any remaining points going into Perception.
Skills

Begin upgrading skills by improving your Greatsword skills first as Death Blow is one of your hardest hitting abilities while
Guillotine Blade is the best choice for upgrading an Omnipotence skill and a great way to spend your Omnipotence skill books, greatly increasing
Guillotine Blade damage.
Continue by upgrading your spear skills with the first two being Vicious Fury and
Javelin Surge as they are used together in a combo to deal high AOE damage. Continue with
Culling Arc and
Rising Slash even though the order in which you upgrade these doesn't make a big difference.
The next skills you should upgrade are the setup skills that you use as part of setting up rotations for yourself. Both Stunning Blow and
Abyssal Cleave durations are increased when you upgrade them, making it easier for you to land
Guillotine Blade.
As far as passives go, Robust Constitution and
Vital Force play off eachother by increasing your overall damage based on how much Max HP you have.
Cold Warrior is another important damage boosting skill as your heavy attack chance increases whenever the target you hit is affected by the Shocked debuff or is stunned. Not only that, but this passive also increases your critical chance which plays perfectly into Spear's reliance on critical hits.
Victor's Morale is the perfect passive for regenerating mana and without it, the Gladiator build would quickly run out of mana.
Equipment

These are the first items you should strive for through the leveling period as they are very easy to get and upgrade or trait as needed. However, you shouldn't try to trait these items too much as you won't be spending too much time playing with this setup before you start changing pieces into the Midgame. The green accessories however are very easy to trait as you can craft many of them quickly in order to get the correct traits so you should consider traiting them until you change into purples. The same goes for the blue ring as you keep it for a long time.

This is the gear you should transition to once you're leveled to 50 and start grinding gear. It is comprised of gear you can get either from dungeons or by completing Litographs, they are relatively easy to trait up and you will spend most of the time wearing this set before advancing into the late game so traiting these items is very important and should be your main focus.

This is the current endgame gear you should aim for, and while it isn't easy to acquire, it offers great power without the need of acquiring archboss gear pieces. However, items like Tevent's Fangs of Fury or other archboss weapons are superior but difficult to acquire for the majority of players. If you do manage to get the archboss weapons for your build, feel free to use them over the weapons shown here.

Greatsword: Spend the first 9 mastery points into Face Off to add extra heavy attack chance and attack speed, important for both Greatswords and Spears. Next, invest the 9 other points into Incapacitate for Cooldown Speed and Stun duration increase while one last point can be added to Charge for a bit more defense.
Spear: Allocate 9 points into Face Off, followed by 9 points in Destroy to amplify your damage and cooldown speed, enhancing the overall damage of the Impaler. Use the last point in Charge for more defense.
Rotations

- This is your main PVE Rotation against bosses or even mobs. Start with
Unyielding Sentinel to buff yourself and your party, increasing heavy attack chance for all. Then, use
Precision Dash to boost heavy attack chance further before using
Abyssal Cleave to Prone or apply Shocked to the target so your
Guillotine Blade damage is increased. Use
Willbreaker next to debuff the target/s.
- Re-apply the heavy attack chance buff with another cast of
Precision Dash before transitioning into the Spear part of the rotation with
Culling Arc for a bit of extra damage before using
Stunning Blow to boost the damage of your
Cyclonic Fury.
- Continue the rotation with
Vicious Fury to build Ember stacks before using
Javelin Surge to spend the Ember stacks before using
Rising Slash to finish off the rotation and deal high burst damage based on the amount of Ignite stacks on the target.

- Prebuff with
Unyielding Sentinel and
Precision Dash to boost heavy attack chance before using
Willbreaker to debuff mobs before using
Abyssal Cleave to apply Prone on the mobs.
- Use
Cyclonic Fury then follow up with multiple hits of
Vicious Fury once you've aligned the mobs together. Continue the rotation with
Javelin Surge as it bounces between targets.
