Impaler - Longbow + Spear Large Scale PvP Build
- High Burst Damage
- Good Range DPS
- Versatile
- Gear Dependant
- Squishy
- Off-meta
Overview
Before beginning to play Spear and Longbow in Large Scale PvP, you should know that this is considered an off-meta build that doesn't often perform better than other more meta choices. However, the Impaler is more than capable of dishing out damage and peeling for itself and teammates while still delivering high burst damage and remaining very mobile. It offers good CC through skills like Arrow Vortex and Flash Arrow is a very strong choice for dealing damage in all situations. The build also offers good self-healing thanks to Healing Touch and isn't all too difficult to play either. All in all, the Impaler build is perfect for those that are looking to have a fresh experience and incorporate the new Spear weapon in their kit.
Attributes
For this build, focus on boosting Perception and Dexterity first. These stats are the best to invest into early on because they improve your critical hit rate, accuracy, and overall damage. Keep prioritizing them as you upgrade your gear to stay strong.
After that, work on Fortitude and Strength. Strength increases your health, which is helpful in PvP for extra health and also an increase in heavy attack chance. You generally want to aim for 50 points into strength if you can afford it. Meanwhile, Fortitude is a good choice for a bit of extra damage and defense.
Skills
The Impaler Spear + Longbow build is a great choice for those looking to play an off-meta build while still supporting their team and being useful with good CC and an easy to learn build.
The high damage skills you will use in large scale PVP are Decisive Sniping and Javelin Surge along with Flash Arrow. And so, the focus should be on upgrading them as quickly as possible alongside Abyssal Cleave as you use this skill to peel for yourself and its efficiency increases as you upgrade the skill, increasing the duration of the CC. Other important skills to upgrade are the Rising Slash, Vicious Fury and Culling Arc.
Arrow Vortex is your main CC skill that is used to CC groups of enemies and make it easier for your team to push in and exploit the opening.
Healing Touch offers healing to both yourself and your group but shouldn't be a priority when upgrading until you've already upgraded your main damaging skills.
As far as passives go, focus on upgrading your defensive Devoted Shield first to help with your survivability alongside Unyielding Sentinel. Don't neglect the offensive passives though and focus on upgrading Mortal Wrath and Sniper's Sense to better project your damage when you use ranged attacks. Steady Aim is also a very strong passive as it increases your crit hit rate whenever you attack CC'd enemies, which happens a lot in PVP.
Equipment
These are the first items you should strive for through the leveling period as they are very easy to get and upgrade or trait as needed. However, you shouldn't try to trait these items too much as you won't be spending too much time playing with this setup before you start changing pieces into the Midgame. The green accessories however are very easy to trait as you can craft many of them quickly in order to get the correct traits so you should consider traiting them until you change into purples. The same goes for the blue ring as you keep it for a long time.
This is the gear you should transition to once you're leveled to 50 and start grinding gear. It is comprised of gear you can get either from dungeons or by completing Litographs, they are relatively easy to trait up and you will spend most of the time wearing this set before advancing into the late game so traiting these items is very important and should be your main focus.
This is the current endgame gear you should aim for, and while it isn't easy to acquire, it offers great power without the need of acquiring archboss gear pieces. However, items like Tevent's Fangs of Fury or other archboss weapons are superior but difficult to acquire for the majority of players. If you do manage to get the archboss weapons for your build, feel free to use them over the weapons shown here.

Longbow: Start with 9 points in Sniping to increase your overall damage and critical hit rate. Then, put 9 points in Support to raise your resistances and gain bonus Perception, which reduces skill damage taken and is highly effective in PvP by minimizing damage taken. Lastly, invest 1 point in Check for extra hit rate.
Spear: The 9 points should go into Face Off while 9 more go into Destroy for similar effects, increasing damage and cooldown speed, improving overall damage of the Impaler build. The remaining 1 point goes into Charge!
Rotations
- This rotation is used to deal quick damage and get away from melee players that jump you. Start by stunning them with Abyssal Cleave before transitioning into Cyclonic Fury and Culling Arc to deal high damage thanks to the Burst stacks applied with Cyclonic Fury. Finish the rotation using Vicious Fury before using Rising Slash to blow up the target with damage based on how many burst/ignite stacks you have on them.
- This rotation is meant to deal high burst AOE damage on a clump of enemies and possibly even reset Javelin Surge cooldown.
- Begin the rotation by pre-buffing with Unyielding Sentinel to increase your heavy attack chance before using Javelin Surge to deal AOE damage but also slow them down so you have an easier time hitting Decisive Sniping on the same targets.
- Continue the rotation with Flash Arrow before using Blitz to reset its cooldown so you can use Flash Arrow again.
If any of the enemies you've hit with Javelin Surge dies, the cooldown on Javelin Surge also resets.
