Impaler - Longbow + Spear PvE Build
- High AoE Damage
- Easy to Play
- Good Party Utility
- Squishy
- Low Mana
- Off-meta
Overview
This Impale Spear + Longbow build focuses on delivering high AOE burst damage through the use of Vicious Fury and Javelin Surge with their synergy. This allows you to burst down groups of enemies with ease as the fire damage abilities hit multiple enemies. Meanwhile, bosses affected by Deadly Marker will grant even more cooldown reduction for yourself. This build performs well in Dungeons, Dimensional Trials or AOE farming mobs in the open world, offering a great choice for those looking for a mix of ranged and melee DPS.
This Impaler PVE build also offers good party utility thanks to Unyielding Sentinel and of course, Deadly Marker.
Attributes
To deal high damage, prioritize Strength and Dexterity. Put points here early, and as you gear up, keep focusing on them to increase crits, heavy attacks, and HP. Try to reach 50 Strength and get as much Dexterity as possible. Perception and Wisdom give minor damage and mana boosts.
Skills
Start by upgrading your main melee rotation first as the low cooldowns allows you to use them very often. Begin with the main combo Vicious Fury and Javelin Surge as you will be using this a lot. Continue with Culling Arc and Rising Slash as they can be upgraded at the same time though in no particular order.
Once you are done with upgrading the main spear skills, prioritize the primary Bow abilities as Strafing and Zephyr's Nock deal great damage while Deadly Marker is one of the best debuffs in the game.
When upgrading passives, prioritize upgrading Devoted Shield can save you from certain mechanics in PVE and is a top choice because of that. Don’t ignore offensive passives though as Mortal Wrath and Rapidfire Stance are good passives to improve the flow of spear skills. Additionally, Mortal Wrath becomes very important once boss HP gets below 30%.
Equipment
These are the first items you should strive for through the leveling period as they are very easy to get and upgrade or trait as needed. However, you shouldn't try to trait these items too much as you won't be spending too much time playing with this setup before you start changing pieces into the Midgame. The green accessories however are very easy to trait as you can craft many of them quickly in order to get the correct traits so you should consider traiting them until you change into purples. The same goes for the blue ring as you keep it for a long time.
This is the gear you should transition to once you're leveled to 50 and start grinding gear. It is comprised of gear you can get either from dungeons or by completing Litographs, they are relatively easy to trait up and you will spend most of the time wearing this set before advancing into the late game so traiting these items is very important and should be your main focus.
This is the current endgame gear you should aim for, and while it isn't easy to acquire, it offers great power without the need of acquiring archboss gear pieces. However, items like Tevent's Fangs of Fury or other archboss weapons are superior but difficult to acquire for the majority of players. If you do manage to get the archboss weapons for your build, feel free to use them over the weapons shown here.

Longbow: Start with 9 points in Sniping to boost your damage and critical hit rate. Follow up with 9 points in Support to improve your resistances and gain bonus Perception, reducing skill damage taken which also works in PVE, lowering boss damage received from mechanics.
Spear: Allocate 9 points into Face Off, followed by 9 points in Destroy to amplify your damage and cooldown speed, enhancing the overall damage of the Impaler. Use the last point in Charge for more defense.
Rotations
- This is your main PVE Rotation against bosses. Start with Unyielding Sentinel to buff yourself and your party before using Deadly Marker on the target to debuff and lower cooldowns for the whole party as they hit the boss. Make sure to use Blitz after that to reset the cooldown on Deadly Marker.
- Start actually damaging the enemy with 2 casts of Strafing before using Zephyr's Nock to deal extra damage and lower cooldown before using Strafing again to keep debuffs on the target so your next Zephyr's Nock is boosted as well.
- Transition into the melee rotation with Culling Arc before using Abyssal Cleave and Cyclonic Fury (make sure to be close to the target so all projectiles hit). Finally, use Vicious Fury to build up Ember stacks before spamming Javelin Surge until you run out of stacks. Finish the rotation with Rising Slash and Cataclysm before using Deadly Marker again.
