Impaler - Longbow + Spear Small Scale PvP Build
- High Burst Damage
- Good Single Target DPS
- Versatile
- Good Self Healing
- Low Mobility
- Squishy
- Easy to CC
- Off-meta
Overview
This Impale Spear + Longbow build focuses on solo and small group PVP where you can deal high burst damage to single targets and kill them quickly before they can retreat. Skills like Ensnaring Arrow are fantastic for locking down players so you can follow up with DPS in close range using spear skills.
This Impaler build also offers good self-healing thanks to Healing Touch, making it easier to stay alive in Dominion events and open world PVP content like Night time PVP or even War Games. The Impaler build remains an off-meta build though as it has trouble performing just as well as other more traditional builds.
Attributes
Begin by emphasizing Perception and Dexterity. These stats are essential for increasing critical hit rate, accuracy, and overall damage, making them the best early investments. Keep enhancing them as you improve your gear.
Next, allocate points into Strength and Fortitude. Strength provides more health for PvP durability and improves heavy attack chances, with a target of 50 points being optimal. Fortitude adds a touch of damage and defense, making it a solid secondary focus.
Skills
Once you start upgrading skills, begin with the main Bow skills first to have a good base for dealing damage from range. Strafing, Zephyr's Nock and Ensnaring Arrow as they have great synergy with eachother and deal solid damage.
The other important Longbow skill to upgrade is the Healing Touch as its your main support skill alongside Unyielding Sentinel.
Cataclysm is a great skill for both movement and also disabling the block of enemies, making it impossible for them to block your damage. However, this skill starts at purple and can only be upgraded with Omnipotence books but its definitely a good skill to dump Omnipotence books into.
The rest of your Spear Skills don't require a certain order besides Abyssal Cleave and Tempest Strike which should be upgraded first as upgrading increases stun duration, making it much easier to land rotations. Cyclonic Fury, Culling Arc and Rising Slash can be upgraded at the same time though in no particular order.
When upgrading passives, prioritize upgrading Devoted Shield first to enhance your survivability by a great deal, with the shield popping up whenever you go to low HP. Don’t overlook offensive passives either though, focusing on Mortal Wrath and Sniper's Sense to amplify your damage when using ranged attacks. Additionally, Steady Aim is incredibly effective, as it boosts your critical hit rate against CC’d enemies, which is a frequent occurrence in PvP.
Equipment
These are the first items you should strive for through the leveling period as they are very easy to get and upgrade or trait as needed. However, you shouldn't try to trait these items too much as you won't be spending too much time playing with this setup before you start changing pieces into the Midgame. The green accessories however are very easy to trait as you can craft many of them quickly in order to get the correct traits so you should consider traiting them until you change into purples. The same goes for the blue ring as you keep it for a long time.
This is the gear you should transition to once you're leveled to 50 and start grinding gear. It is comprised of gear you can get either from dungeons or by completing Litographs, they are relatively easy to trait up and you will spend most of the time wearing this set before advancing into the late game so traiting these items is very important and should be your main focus.
This is the current endgame gear you should aim for, and while it isn't easy to acquire, it offers great power without the need of acquiring archboss gear pieces. However, items like Tevent's Fangs of Fury or other archboss weapons are superior but difficult to acquire for the majority of players. If you do manage to get the archboss weapons for your build, feel free to use them over the weapons shown here.

Longbow: Start with 9 points in Sniping to boost your damage and critical hit rate. Follow up with 9 points in Support to improve your resistances and gain bonus Perception, reducing skill damage taken which is particularly powerful in PVP alongside the extra skill damage resistance you get from runes. Finally, invest 1 point in Check to enhance your hit rate.
Spear: Allocate 9 points into Face Off, followed by 9 points in Destroy to amplify your damage and cooldown speed, enhancing the overall damage of the Impaler. Use the last point in Charge for more defense.
Rotations
- This rotation is for catching and bursting down enemies in close range using the Spear. Use Ensnaring Arrow to lock the enemy player in place, binding them.
- Continue by stunning them with Abyssal Cleave before transitioning into Cyclonic Fury and Culling Arc to deal high damage thanks to the Burst stacks applied with Cyclonic Fury. Use Tempest Strike before the target is out of the bind and finish the rotation with Rising Slash.
- Use this rotation to deal damage from range without getting in close. Start with Ensnaring Arrow first to bind the target before using Strafing two times to put up Gale and the Bullseye debuff on the target so the Zephyr's Nock damage is boosted while its cooldown is lowered. Use Strafing again then quickly use Zephyr's Nock once more to maximize damage done.
Unyielding Sentinel: Use this to buff yourself throughout a fight, boosting heavy attack chance and CC resistance.
