This build is up to date for the March 14, 2025 patch.
Overview
This Greatsword and Crossbow build for PvE focuses on a mix of AOE and incredible single target burst damage and the ability to kill targets very quickly. It performs well in short dungeon encounters and is fantastic for open world PvE content such as field bosses, contracts or PvE Events and open world dungeon mob grinding. The build isn't particularly difficult to play and can be used successfully even by less experienced players.

Perception
With the unique stats and attributes system in Throne and Liberty, it can be difficult to determine exactly where to invest your attribute points at each stage of the game. This is because gear pieces provide attributes just like leveling up does, meaning everyone will have a different number of attribute points depending on what gear they are wearing at the time.
Given this variation, it's best to reset your attributes regularly to adjust to the new gear you acquire. Aim to reach the achievement effects, which provide extra benefits at milestones like 30, 50, and 70 points.
For this build, focus on increasing Strength and Dexterity to maximize your damage. Strength will help increase your health and make you more durable so reaching 50 points is great to do. These should be your primary stats, especially in the early stages. As you level up and upgrade your gear, keep investing in them to boost your critical hit rate, accuracy, and range. Perception and Wisdom should be secondary priorities.
Skills
Depending on which Dungeon/Dimensional Trial you might run, consider using
Rare Roaring Steak,
Rare Thrilling Papillote, and even
Rare Scorpion Tail Fritters to make it easier and also deal a lot more damage.
Focus on upgrading
Quick Fire and
Mortal Mark as soon as possible as they are your main damaging abilities from the crossbow side and you are using very often throughout the game. They both work well when paired alongside
Merciless Barrage too. The
Mortal Mark can mark a target and deal a percentage of the damage you've done to that target once the mark ends. This makes
Mortal Mark pair perfectly with any rotation but particularly good when coupled with
Merciless Barrage. Additionally, continue by upgrading
Selfless Diffusion as it lowers your cooldowns and lets you use abilities much more often.
Upgrade
Valiant Brawl and
Stunning Blow to improve your rotation as they are used together most of the time. Another combo that should be used together is the interaction between
Ascending Slash and
Guillotine Blade or
Death Blow as their damage is increased by hitting Prone targets.
As far as passives go, prioritize
Ambidexterity for the added extra off-hand-weapon damage. You will mostly be using the Greatsword as your primary weapon and
Ambidexterity pairs perfectly with the high chance of activating off-hand weapon the Crossbow offers. Upgrade
Vital Force to enhance your skill damage based on the amount of health you get from
Robust Constitution. Additionally, invest into
Cold Warrior, as it increases your critical hit chance and heavy attack chance.

Victor's Morale offers a lot of mana regeneration, making it difficult to run out of mana with this Outrider build.

These are the first items you should strive for through the leveling period as they are very easy to get and upgrade or trait as needed. However, you shouldn't try to trait these items too much as you won't be spending too much time playing with this setup before you start changing pieces into the Midgame. The green accessories however are very easy to trait as you can craft many of them quickly in order to get the correct traits so you should consider traiting them until you change into purples. The same goes for the blue ring as you keep it for a long time.

This is the gear you should transition to once you're leveled to 50 and start grinding gear. It is comprised of gear you can get either from dungeons or by completing Litographs, they are relatively easy to trait up and you will spend most of the time wearing this set before advancing into the late game so traiting these items is very important and should be your main focus.

While runes can be applied to different types of gear, you should make sure that you invest into the gear pieces that you plan on using for a long time. However, if the build you are using uses the same items between Mid Game and End Game, you can invest into adding runes to them as early as you get the items.
This is the current endgame gear you should aim for, and while it isn't easy to acquire, it offers great power without the need of acquiring archboss gear pieces. However, items like
Tevent's Fangs of Fury or other archboss weapons are superior but difficult to acquire for the majority of players. If you do manage to get the archboss weapons for your build, feel free to use them over the weapons shown here.

You should be aiming to reach and unlock masteries (the corner nodes) as soon as possible as they usually make the largest impact in the build. While minor nodes shouldn't be forgotten, make sure to unlock masteries as fast as possible before spreading out and spending into less important nodes.

Rotations
- Start off the rotation by pre-buffing with

DaVinci's Courage before closing the distance and using
Valiant Brawl to get some quick damage in. Continue with another self-buff, using
Selfless Diffusion before setting up your follow-up damage with
Stunning Blow followed by a fast
Quick Fire!
- Continue the rotation using

Ascending Slash to debuff the mob and increase your follow-up damage. Continue the rotation with
Guillotine Blade,
Valiant Brawl and
Death Blow. You should then end the rotation with
Mortal Mark and
Merciless Barrage!

Weak Point Shot: Use this skill whenever the boss/mob uses a fury attack as it deals good damage and also increases the critical damage of your entire party against the same target.
