Traits is one of many end game progressions systems in Throne and Liberty. Up to 3 traits can be applied to your weapons, armor and accessories. This guide explains Trait Conversion and Trait Extraction, how a 4th Resonance Trait is unlocked and how to earn Lucent with Traits.
Video
What are Traits?
- Traits are essentially the extra stats that each gear piece can have. Each piece can have 3 different traits, with a 4th trait that can be added after you have fully leveled up each of the 3 traits and it is called a Resonance Trait.
- When an item drops as a loot, dungeon reward or obtained through crafting, it always comes with 1 random trait on level 1. You can inspect each individual item by clicking the Trait List icon and find out which traits can be activated.
- Uncommon items have traits that can be leveled 2 times, Rare items 3 times and Epic items 4 times. To level up an existing trait you need the same item with the same trait. On the other hand, to unlock a second and third trait slot, you will either need that same exact item with the trait you want, or unlock it using Trait Unlockstones. The amount needed will vary depending on the tier of the item, and they can be obtained in mystic portals, through completing lithographs, dynamic events and premium battlepass.
When leveling up traits you have a % chance of success. If you are leveling up a trait on a Rare item with a Uncommon item, you will have a 10% chance of success. Failing will give you a blessing, which is pretty much a pity system. The more you fail the more blessings you accumulate. But if you are leveling up a trait on a Rare item piece with a Rare item, then your chances of success are 100%. In other words, Uncommon with Uncommon, Rare with Rare and Epic with Epic for 100% success chance.
Trait Conversion
Using Trait Conversion Stones, you are able to re-roll the trait. If you want a guaranteed conversion to heavy attack chance, you will need to have that same second weapon with Heavy Attack Chance, or an extract, to succeed. Otherwise you are left with a random conversion chance, which can end up being great, but it can also make it even worse. Your best move is going back to grind for another drop, or sell materials, items and extracts on an auction house to gain lucent and then buy the extract you need. Trait Conversion Stones can be obtained in mystic portals, guild merchant, dynamic events and premium battlepass.
Trait Extraction
Trait Extraction Stones are used for extracting a trait from an item, which then turns it into a sellable item on the auction house. If you get an item that you don't want to use, first check which trait it has, then check the auction house for the prices of that same gear extract and that same trait. If it has been selling recently and the price is good for you, use trait Trait Extraction Stones to extract the trait and put it on the auction.
What are the best Traits?
- All weapons mainly will use Heavy Attack Chance, Critical Hit, Hit and Attack Speed. Slight variations are possible for specific stats and builds.
- If you are a DPS that is using Daggers as a main or off-hand, or if you are using Sword & Shield, you want to stack Ranged Evasion and Magic Evasion on all 5 armor pieces as the first two traits.
- If you are not using Daggers or Sword & Shield, you want to stack Ranged and Magic Endurance as the first two traits on all 5 armor pieces.
- For the 3rd trait, you have several options depending on what you need. Max Health if possible, certain gloves have Range or Attack Speed, certain boots have Move Speed and some pieces have Cooldown Reduction.
- The bottom line is, you are either stacking Evasion or Endurance as first 2 traits and 3rd can be adapted to your liking.
- The accessories have their own unique traits. On a necklace and both rings, your priority is skill damage boost. Other 2 can be, Max Health and any chance you need.
- For cloak, belt and bracelet your priority is Skill Damage Resistance, while other 2 can be, if possible Max Health, and then Resistance Chance.
Resonance Trait
- When you have fully leveled up all your 3 traits, you unlock the 4th slot. The 4th slot can be unlocked using Trait Resonance Stone, which can be crafted at any major crafting NPC.
- When using Trait Resonance Stones, you have a % chance to get one of the possible traits. The bad ones have a higher % chance to unlock and the good ones have lower % chance. In most cases you will need to spend several Trait Resonance Stones until you get the stat that you want, which should always be the stat that you want to stack the most.
- This is a very RNG way of gaining very little amount of stats, but you still want to try and get the best trait possible.
How to earn Lucent with Traits?
- Do the dungeons, use drops that you need, extract and sell everything you don't need and have value. You can buy 420 Trait Extraction Stones each week at contract coin merchants.
- Do your daily contracts and prioritize blessing pouches. They can drop Rare or Epic gear, but more importantly open world dungeon contracts. You can buy 1 daily blessing pouch at a contract coin merchant.
- Buy every week at sundries merchants all open world dungeon contracts and always use the ones you get daily from blessing pouches. These pouches have even better gear, plus you get to spend some Abyssal Contract Tokens on possible drops.
- Do not allow yourself to reach the 20k Abyssal Contract Tokens limit. Every 2 or 3 days, go into one open world dungeon and just farm it until you reach 0.
- With all this Epic and Rare gear that dropped, check what you need and use it, then check the value on the auction house, extract and sell what you don't need.
- If there is an item that dropped, but you don't need it and it has no value, use a material conversion system. Throw all the garbage gear pieces in there and convert them into 1 Epic gear piece. Always use conversion level 4 or 5, do not use anything lower.
- You can also convert any gear piece into a sellable lithograph. If you drop a gear piece that is very much needed by many players, turn it into a lithograph and sell it. You can obtain the materials needed to craft blank lithograph paper at contract coin merchants, each week.
