Impaler - Longbow + Spear PvE Build
- High AoE Damage
- Easy to Play
- Good Party Utility
- Squishy
- Low Mana
- Off-meta
Overview
This Impale Spear + Longbow build focuses on delivering high AOE burst damage through the use of Vicious Fury and Javelin Surge with their synergy. This allows you to burst down groups of enemies with ease as the fire damage abilities hit multiple enemies. Meanwhile, bosses affected by Deadly Marker will grant even more cooldown reduction for yourself.
This Impaler PVE build also offers good party utility thanks to Unyielding Sentinel and Nature's Blessing along with Deadly Marker, of course.
Attributes
Start by focusing on Perception and Dexterity, especially during the leveling period as these stats enhance your critical hit rate, accuracy, and overall damage output. They should be your top priority early on and remain so as you upgrade your gear.
Once these are covered, invest in Strength and Fortitude. Strength boosts your health, which is good for making it easier to survive boss fights and also get higher heavy attack chance. Fortitude on the other hand is mostly a PVP stat, however, it also increases your base damage which is important.
Skills
Start by upgrading your main melee rotation first as the low cooldowns allows you to use them very often. Begin with the main combo Vicious Fury and Javelin Surge as you will be using this a lot. Continue with Culling Arc and Rising Slash as they can be upgraded at the same time though in no particular order.
Once you are done with upgrading the main spear skills, prioritize the primary Bow abilities as Strafing and Zephyr's Nock deal great damage while Deadly Marker is one of the best debuffs in the game.
When upgrading passives, prioritize upgrading Devoted Shield can save you from certain mechanics in PVE and is a top choice because of that. Don’t ignore offensive passives though as Mortal Wrath and Rapidfire Stance are good passives to improve the flow of spear skills. Additionally, Mortal Wrath becomes very important once boss HP gets below 30%.
Equipment
These are the first items you should strive for through the leveling period as they are very easy to get and upgrade or trait as needed. However, you shouldn't try to trait these items too much as you won't be spending too much time playing with this setup before you start changing pieces into the Midgame. The green accessories however are very easy to trait as you can craft many of them quickly in order to get the correct traits so you should consider traiting them until you change into purples. The same goes for the blue ring as you keep it for a long time.
This is the gear you should transition to once you're leveled to 50 and start grinding gear. It is comprised of gear you can get either from dungeons or by completing Litographs, they are relatively easy to trait up and you will spend most of the time wearing this set before advancing into the late game so traiting these items is very important and should be your main focus.
This is the current endgame gear you should aim for, and while it isn't easy to acquire, it offers great power without the need of acquiring archboss gear pieces. However, items like Tevent's Fangs of Fury or other archboss weapons are superior but difficult to acquire for the majority of players. If you do manage to get the archboss weapons for your build, feel free to use them over the weapons shown here.

Longbow: Start with 9 points in Sniping to boost your damage and critical hit rate. Follow up with 9 points in Support to improve your resistances and gain bonus Perception, reducing skill damage taken which also works in PVE, lowering boss damage received from mechanics.
Spear: Allocate 9 points into Face Off, followed by 9 points in Destroy to amplify your damage and cooldown speed, enhancing the overall damage of the Impaler. Use the last point in Charge for more defense.
Rotations
- This rotation is for catching and bursting down enemies in close range using the Spear. Use Ensnaring Arrow to lock the enemy player in place, binding them.
- Continue by stunning them with Abyssal Cleave before transitioning into Cyclonic Fury and Culling Arc to deal high damage thanks to the Burst stacks applied with Cyclonic Fury. Use Tempest Strike before the target is out of the bind and finish the rotation with Rising Slash.
- Use this rotation to deal damage from range without getting in close. Start with Ensnaring Arrow first to bind the target before using Strafing two times to put up Gale and the Bullseye debuff on the target so the Zephyr's Nock damage is boosted while its cooldown is lowered. Use Strafing again then quickly use Zephyr's Nock once more to maximize damage done.
Unyielding Sentinel: Use this to buff yourself throughout a fight, boosting heavy attack chance and CC resistance.
