Weapon variants

If you don't have access to Weaponmaster Training with Secrets of the Obscure, you will not be able to wield a hammer. Use Rifle Rifle instead.

  • Rifle Rifle for players without Weaponmaster Training or who prefer a ranged playstyle. Good ranged damage though it performs best in melee range due to Blunderbuss.

Skill Variants

Heal skill

We recommend Mitotic State for its very large healing, although it heals slowly over 5 seconds. It also converts 2 conditions into boons thanks to Stainless Steel.
Other options can be considered:

  • Healing Turret high healing, and cleanses 2 conditions when first deployed while creating a water field where you can detonate the turret to provide even more healing (See: Guide:What are Combo Fields). Always pick up the turret or detonate it, as it will provide more healing over time than the super weak regeneration that leaving the turret deployed provides.
  • Med Kit provides defensive boons, condition cleanse a water field with, and good healing with the toolbelt skill Bandage Self.
  • A.E.D. - helpful to negate a big attack or a oneshot, but poor healing if it doesn't, and has a helpful 2 second stun on the toolbelt skill Static Shock.

Utility skills

Throw Mine has great damage and crowd control, never replace it.
Bomb Kit requires a bit of skill to use to be constantly switching in and out of it, but provides good damage. Can be replaced if you hate Engineering Kits.
Plasmatic State - good for burst damage. Can be replaced.
Other options can be considered:

  • Gaseous State is a great stunbreak that also increases your movement speed and reduces the damage of incoming attacks by 50% for its duration
  • Solid State - good crowd control.
  • Elixir U - quickness Quickness and stunbreak.
  • Rocket Boots - if you need extra mobility.
  • Elixir C - massive condition removal and heals per existing boon.

Elite skill

Flux State offers great damage and crowd control. Never replace it.

Specializations

Trait variants

  • Aim-Assisted Rocket - use it when playing rifle for higher damage.

Relic

If you are gearing this character from zero, start with exotic quality gear. Search the trading post for "Nika" armor. Then search for the weapons you want to use: "Ironfist" hammer, "Exterminator" rifle. Upgrade to ascended gear as you progress. See also: Guide:How to Gear a Character.

  • You can use Relic of Zakiros to trade a minor amount of damage for sustain or Relic of the Cavalier to start combat with boons.
  • For defense, equip the highest tier Jade Core you can afford. Use defensive food or skills if required.

Budget consumables are acceptable for use in open world.

Usage

Damage

  • Spam Electro-whirl, Throw Mine, and Thunderclap.
    • If using rifle, spam Blunderbuss (preferably in melee range), Net Shot and Jump Shot. You can save Overcharged Shot for CC or to cleanse yourself of movement-impeding conditions, or otherwise spammed for damage.
  • Use Offensive Protocol: Demolish to convert damage you do into healing.
  • Use Offensive Protocol: Obliterate for damage.
  • Use Defensive Protocol: Thorns for damage or save it for stunbreak.
  • Casting Evolve resets the cooldown of all your protocols.
  • Stay close to your target to benefit from No Scope and High Caliber.

Defense

  • The best defense is always to dodge or sidestep attacks.
  • Offensive Protocol: Demolish provides excellent healing by doing damage.
  • Your Stance utility skills and Evolve turn your conditions into boons.
  • You can block attacks with Shock Shield.
  • You have minor healing over time from Big Boomer and some barrier from Hybrid Vigor.
  • If your enemy gives itself boons, save Throw Mine to remove up to 3 of them.

Crowd control

  • Throw Mine
  • Magnetic Bomb
  • Big Ol' Bomb
  • Flux State
