Heal skill
The default heal is which provides a heal each time a skill deals damage, and this is usually enough to keep you alive even against Champion-strength mobs. If you want a more standard heal though, you can run . Alternatively, provides another dodge and can be good for temporarily dropping aggro and cleansing conditions.
Utility skills
In the empty slot, any of the following can be taken:
- - This is a great general skill to have for offense and defense. Use it when you're suffering from conditions or need more initiative.
- - A very nice AoE damage option that also roots enemies in place. Take this if you want more damage.
- - If you're playing with this will be your best damage option on longer fights.
- - A defensive skill that breaks stuns and refunds 6 initiative.
- - A good stunbreak against enemies who frequently stun. Can be reactivated early with a chance of exploding.
- - Provides a passive movement speed boost and can be activated to apply 10
Vulnerability to targets in an area, which translates to +10% damage. Good if you don't like relying on for
Swiftness. - - Teleports you to a location as far as 1200 units away and also breaks stuns. Can be used to skip past enemies, up terrain, etc..
- - This is a good skill to temporarily slot while doing events that require long channel times that would otherwise be interrupted by mobs attacking you.
Elite skill
For solo play, the best elite skill is , as the thieves summoned both deal good damage and fully benefit from your Venoms/boons. However, for group play, you can switch to for high defiance-bar damage, or if you're able to keep up with it.

If you are gearing this character from zero, start with exotic quality gear.
Every piece of gear you want for this build is purchasable from the trading post. Alternatively, if you boosted your Thief, you'll be given a full set of Celestial gear and can skip to purchasing your runes/relic/sigils.
- Search the trading post for "Celestial" armor and purchase a set. This is the most expensive part.
- Your weapons will be far cheaper: Purchase 2x Jade Serpent Dagger and a shortbow. The shortbow's stats don't matter as much since it's used for utility, so get whatever's cheapest.
- For accessories, rings, and your amulet, purchase Charged Quartz Orichalcum jewelry. You'll need two rings, two earrings, and one amulet.
- If you're on a tight budget, you can alternatively purchase Black Diamond Orichalcum jewelry for these slots.
- For the back item, purchase a Lucky Great Horse Lantern, or whichever similar exotic lantern is cheapest. After purchasing, right click > customize and choose Celestial.
Upgrade to ascended gear as you progress. See also: Guide:How to Gear a Character.
- For your runes, purchase 6x .
- For your relic, purchase a .
- For your daggers, purchase a and a .
- The shortbow is primarily for mobility, so you don't have to buy the recommended sigils right away. Just use whatever you have.
For defense, equip the highest tier Jade Core you can afford. You'll need a Jade Bot from End of Dragons to do this. If you don't have that expansion, don't worry about this.
Relic variants
- You can use to trade some damage for crowd control while still retaining a pet.
- is good if you're the frequent target of attacks and you'd rather not worry about a pet.
Rune variants
- is another budget option. It gives a bit of everything including boon duration so it can be good if you're struggling to keep the boons you want up. Can be purchased from the auction house.
- is a very strong option vs. enemies that take a while to kill, such as Champions. Can be purchased from the auction house.
- is harder to obtain but is your best option for damage. You'll have to level Armorsmithing, Leatherworking, or Tailoring to 400 to craft it.
Consumables

Usage
This build boils down to using your abilities with shared buffs, those being your Venoms and artifacts from , then using and autoattack chains until your venoms and swipe are off cooldown again. Your survivability is exceptional and mostly automatic: causes you to evade while defensive artifacts give you
Protection. Simply keep attacking and you'll stay alive.
Damage
- If is up, use it at the start of combat, then use and next to them and your Jagged Horror. After that, use and spam all the artifacts you get. It doesn't matter what order, just use them to buff yourself and your summons. Using artifacts grants you and nearby allies the
Might,
Alacrity, and
Protection boons. - If you have nothing else to do, use or your autoattack chains until your venoms and are off cooldown.
- Use your venoms, , and the artifacts it gives you each time they're off cooldown.
- Always try and use your venoms before so they benefit from 's cooldown reduction.
- Be sure to stand near your thieves from or other players before using your artifacts and venoms.
Defense
- Much of your tankiness is supplied by artifacts and evasion from . Simply do what you'd do to deal damage and it'll double as defense.
- heals you for each instance of striking damage your abilities do. Conditions don't trigger it, but many of the skills you'll be using hit multiple times, and thus will heal you multiple times.
- Every time you use an artifact you'll gain a barrier of ~1000. While you have barrier you take 10% less damage from all sources.
- Once you get more comfortable with the concept of the build, you can save the artifacts and for defense, as they have strong defensive components.
- is an artifact that creates a projectile-destroying shield.
- If your enemy gives itself boons, you can use to steal three of them for yourself.
- You can hide behind your summoned Jagged Horror (from ) and have it tank for you momentarily. It has fairly low health health, but you can heal it and give it barrier by using artifacts while close to it.
- If you need to quickly escape a fight, you can swap to your
Shortbow and use to teleport away.
Crowd control
Unfortunately this build has little crowd control outside of random artifacts. However, this can be remedied by playing with an off-hand
Pistol instead of the normal
Shortbow and spamming .
