Untamed - Fervent Quickness is a power-based build for the untamed specialization that features a lot of self-sufficiency in offensive and defensive boon application. The build works by applying Crowd Control (CC) effects to enemies to generate large amounts of self-quickness and to reset the cooldown of important skills.

==Usage==

==Usage==
The goal of this build is to use CC skills as often as possible to maintain quickness and reduce the cooldown of our important abilities. Most time should be spent in Unleash Ranger as this will cause CC abilities to grant quickness. However if stability is needed, switch to Unleash Pet and use CC.
+
===Set up===
Main Damage Abilities:
+
The build requires a lot of button pressing to reach its true potential. In short, you are going to {{Skill|Unleash Pet}} to use CC skills, and {{Skill|Unleash Ranger}} to use damage skills. You want to use the damage skills while you are unleashed to do more damage thanks to {{Trait|Vow of the Untamed}}, and you unleash the pet to do CC because hammer only does CC when the pet is unleashed.
* {{Skill|Frost Trap}}
+

* {{Skill|Whirling Defense}}
+
To quickly and at a glance know who is unleashed, look at your pet UI. If the pet skills are visible, like {{Skill|Smoke Cloud}}, ''you'' are unleashed, do extra damage, and can command the pet to use its skills. If the untamed pet skills are visible, like {{Skill|Venomous Outburst}}, ''your pet'' is unleashed, you take less damage, and can command the pet to use its untamed skills. Your pet doesn't actually gain any benefit from unleash, it only changes the skills you can command it to do.
 +

 +
To simplify, unleash your pet to do CC with your hammer, and unleash yourself to do damage.
 +

 +
;Hammer
 +
Hammer is your main weapon, you can technically play 100% of the time in this weapon set. Its skills are clearly divided:
 +
* Skills 2 {{Skill|Unleashed Wild Swing}} and 4 {{Skill|Unleashed Savage Shock Wave}} are damage skills and should be used when you are unleashed.
 +
* Skills 3 {{Skill|Overbearing Smash}} and 5 {{Skill|Thump (untamed)}} are CC skills and should be used when your pet is unleashed and your damage skills are on cooldown.
 +
;Axe offhand
 +
In the axe offhand weapon set, always stay unleashed.
 +
Skill 4 {{Skill|Path of Scars}} is a CC skill and all other axe skills are damage skills. Use {{Skill|Splitblade}} in melee range for maximum damage.
 +
;Other sources of CC
 +
* {{Skill|Exploding Spores}} will knock down enemies hit by ''all'' spores, so only those in the very middle. This makes it harder to CC small enemies with this skill, but it should be trivial on big enemies.
 +
* Your pet skills also CC, but this CC does not count towards {{Trait|Fervent Force}}. With {{Tooltip|Smokescale}}, Takedown (F1). And with {{Tooltip|Rock Gazelle}}, {{Skill|Head Toss}}(F2) and Charge(F3).

Main Defensive Abilities:
+
===Quickness===
* {{Skill|Perilous Gift}} - Use before going downed. Superspeed is also nice.
+
* Because of {{Trait|Enhancing Impact}}, doing CC while unleashed grants you quickness. Unfortunately, your hammer only does CC when your pet is unleashed. This leaves {{Skill|Path of Scars}} and {{Skill|Exploding Spores}} as your sources of quickness, always cast them while unleashed.
* {{Skill|Forest's Fortification}} - Very high damage reduction. Follow this up with {{Skill|Whirling Defense}} in a pack of mobs to basically reset the cooldown.
+
** As you master this build, know that you can start the cast of {{Skill|Overbearing Smash}} or {{Skill|Thump (untamed)}} and then very quickly Unleash youself. This way, the Crowd Control will occur while you are unleashed, and will give you {{Tooltip|Quickness}} from {{Trait|Enhancing Impact}}.
 +
* For a build more focused on quickness, use {{Skill|Quickening Zephyr}} and {{Sigil|Superior Sigil of Celerity}}.

Basic Rotation:
+
===Damage===
Start in Sword/Axe, with pet unleashed,
+
Use the damage skills detailed above, then use your CC skills detailed above to reduce your cooldowns. Thanks to {{Trait|Vicious Quarry}} and your berserker gear you will have very high crit chance, or 99% when attacking from behind due to {{Trait|Hunter's Tactics}}.
*{{Skill|Quickening Zephyr}}
+
===Defense===
*{{Skill|Frost Trap}}
+
* {{Skill|Perilous Gift}} - you take no damage during this, and then it heals you for 50% of your missing health. By proccing {{Trait|Fervent Force}} so often, this skill will have a very low cooldown.
* Unleash Ranger
+
* {{Skill|Forest's Fortification}} - reduces damage taken by 50% by 10 seconds, and its cooldown is reduced by 1 second each time you strike during that time. Combine if with {{Skill|Whirling Defense}} or {{Skill|Relentless Whirl}} to significantly reduce its cooldown. And with {{Trait|Fervent Force}} on top, you will have good uptime of this massive damage reduction.
*{{Skill|Deft Strike}}
+
===Sustain===
*{{Skill|Exploding Spores}}

* Your Unleashed Ambush skills {{Skill|Relentless Whirl}} or {{Skill|Sundering Volley}} heal you a little bit, and more for each target hit due to {{Trait|Natural Fortitude}}.

Overview

Power Untamed is a power-based build for the untamed specialization that focuses on Crowd Control (CC) to reduce its cooldowns thanks to Fervent Force, and gain a bit of quickness thanks to Enhancing Impact. Because of that, this build requires a very active playstyle and some learning to do before you can unleash its full power.

Usage

Set up

The build requires a lot of button pressing to reach its true potential. In short, you are going to Unleash Pet to use CC skills, and Unleash Ranger to use damage skills. You want to use the damage skills while you are unleashed to do more damage thanks to Vow of the Untamed, and you unleash the pet to do CC because hammer only does CC when the pet is unleashed.

To quickly and at a glance know who is unleashed, look at your pet UI. If the pet skills are visible, like Smoke Cloud, you are unleashed, do extra damage, and can command the pet to use its skills. If the untamed pet skills are visible, like Venomous Outburst, your pet is unleashed, you take less damage, and can command the pet to use its untamed skills. Your pet doesn't actually gain any benefit from unleash, it only changes the skills you can command it to do.

To simplify, unleash your pet to do CC with your hammer, and unleash yourself to do damage.

Hammer

Hammer is your main weapon, you can technically play 100% of the time in this weapon set. Its skills are clearly divided:

  • Skills 2 Unleashed Wild Swing and 4 Unleashed Savage Shock Wave are damage skills and should be used when you are unleashed.
  • Skills 3 Overbearing Smash and 5 Thump (untamed) are CC skills and should be used when your pet is unleashed and your damage skills are on cooldown.
Axe offhand

In the axe offhand weapon set, always stay unleashed. Skill 4 Path of Scars is a CC skill and all other axe skills are damage skills. Use Splitblade in melee range for maximum damage.

Other sources of CC
  • Exploding Spores will knock down enemies hit by all spores, so only those in the very middle. This makes it harder to CC small enemies with this skill, but it should be trivial on big enemies.
  • Your pet skills also CC, but this CC does not count towards Fervent Force. With Smokescale Smokescale, Takedown (F1). And with Rock Gazelle Rock Gazelle, Head Toss(F2) and Charge(F3).

Quickness

  • Because of Enhancing Impact, doing CC while unleashed grants you quickness. Unfortunately, your hammer only does CC when your pet is unleashed. This leaves Path of Scars and Exploding Spores as your sources of quickness, always cast them while unleashed.
    • As you master this build, know that you can start the cast of Overbearing Smash or Thump (untamed) and then very quickly Unleash youself. This way, the Crowd Control will occur while you are unleashed, and will give you Quickness Quickness from Enhancing Impact.
  • For a build more focused on quickness, use Quickening Zephyr and Sigil of Superior Sigil of Celerity.

Damage

Use the damage skills detailed above, then use your CC skills detailed above to reduce your cooldowns. Thanks to Vicious Quarry and your berserker gear you will have very high crit chance, or 99% when attacking from behind due to Hunter's Tactics.

Defense

  • Perilous Gift - you take no damage during this, and then it heals you for 50% of your missing health. By proccing Fervent Force so often, this skill will have a very low cooldown.
  • Forest's Fortification - reduces damage taken by 50% by 10 seconds, and its cooldown is reduced by 1 second each time you strike during that time. Combine if with Whirling Defense or Relentless Whirl to significantly reduce its cooldown. And with Fervent Force on top, you will have good uptime of this massive damage reduction.

Sustain

  • Your Unleashed Ambush skills Relentless Whirl or Sundering Volley heal you a little bit, and more for each target hit due to Natural Fortitude.

Crowd Control

  • Overbearing Smash
  • Thump (untamed)
  • Path of Scars
  • Exploding Spores
  • Head Toss

Great build with amazing CC and AoE damage potential. Capable of locking down anything with small or no defiance bars. Shines most against groups due to the 3 second cool down for CC triggers on enemies with defiance. It also is very susceptible to conditions, having basically no way of dealing with then outside of switching to mutate or running the timer at 1hp with your heal.

I really like this build and excellent explanation of unleashing skills with both pet and ranger. Thank you! I’m wondering if the sigils of Force and Impact conflict? ie: both Enhancement and percentages based. Sometimes sigils pairing are confusing to me.

A very fun build that actually makes use the unleash mechanic. Spamming both CC and damage. If you like button smashing you will like this build. But be warned that it requires some learning to do, and can be confusing at first, especially keeping track of the unleashed status or when your unleashed ambush is ready.
