Overview

Power Mechanist has a simple rotation, and the mech allows you to maintain high damage even if you're forced to deal with mechanics. This makes it an excellent starter class.

The different weapon options allow for some flexibility in utility and survivability, and it can provide some minor group support quite easily.

Utility

Non-SotO Weapons

  • Shield is a moderate DPS loss, but offers good CC and survivability, though Hammer provides similar benefits and does more damage.
  • Hammer offers frequent projectile reflect, an evade, and a block. The lightning field on Thunderclap will also result in some occasional Swiftness Swiftness for your subgroup.
  • Rifle is the best weapon for players that don't own Secrets of the Obscure. It is also a nice weapon on encounters that make meleeing the boss difficult, though it is significantly less damage than the other weapon options.

Skill Variants

  • A.E.D. can be used to skip certain oneshot attacks
  • Throw Mine can replace Grenade Kit. This is a small DPS loss, and you lose access to ranged damage, but the rotation is simpler and you gain access to more CC and boon rip.

Specializations

  • It would be a minor DPS loss to take Mech Arms: High-Impact Drivers, and you would generate a decent amount of Might Might for doing so.

Utility

Usage

The build is incredibly easy to play, and mostly boils down to using certain weapon skills off-cooldown.

If taking Grenade Kit, whenever you use skill 2 (Refraction Cutter, Electro-whirl or Blunderbuss), switch to Grenade Kit and use Shrapnel Grenade, plus Poison Grenade OR Freeze Grenade. Shrapnel Grenade will always be ready, skip Poison and Freeze grenade if they are on cooldown.

Sword Rotation

The rotation is functionally a priority list:

  1. Refraction Cutter
  2. Blowtorch
  3. Throw Mine (if using)
  4. Radiant Arc
  5. Glue Shot
  • After using Refraction Cutter, go into Grenade Kit and use Shrapnel Grenade plus either Poison Grenade or Freeze Grenade (if available). Poison Grenade takes priority.
  • Complete your autoattack chains.
  • Every time you complete an auto chain, it slightly reduces the cooldown of your two sword skills.

Hammer Rotation

Opener

  1. Thunderclap
  2. Electro-whirl
  3. Grenade Kit
  4. Shrapnel Grenade
  5. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap (or stow kit)
  6. Rocket Charge (optional)

Rest of the Rotation

After the opener, your basic loop is as follows:

  1. Autoattack and use Thunderclap and Rocket Charge on Hammer until Electro-whirl is available - make sure to finish your auto chains!
  2. Electro-whirl
  3. Grenade Kit
  4. Shrapnel Grenade, and Freeze Grenade OR Poison Grenade (if available)
  5. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap (or stow kit)
  6. Repeat

Video example

  • Rocket Charge is a small DPS increase, but locks your character into a long animation. As the skill also provides two evades, it can instead be saved for defensive use.
  • Only use one grenade skill alongside Shrapnel Grenade each time you enter Grenade Kit.
    • Poison Grenade takes priority over Freeze Grenade.
    • On a loop where you use Thunderclap, only use Shrapnel Grenade the next time you enter Grenade Kit.
  • See below for more General Tips.

Rifle Rotation

Opener

  1. Blunderbuss
  2. Grenade Kit
  3. Shrapnel Grenade
  4. Poison Grenade
  5. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap (or stow kit)
  6. Overcharged Shot
  7. Jump Shot
  8. Net Shot

Rest of the Rotation

  1. Autoattack and use your rifle skills as they come off cooldown until Blunderbuss is available
  2. Blunderbuss
  3. Grenade Kit
  4. Shrapnel Grenade plus Poison Grenade or Freeze Grenade (if available)
  5. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap (or stow kit)
  6. Repeat

  • If you hover your mouse over an element of the UI, your character will use Jump Shot in place, minimising the animation length and maintaining your position

Video example

General Tips

  • Make sure you're within 360 units of your mech before using F1-3 skills, or they will have a 50% longer cooldown thanks to Mechanical Genius.
  • Try to let your autoattacks finish.
  • Use Spark Revolver, Jade Mortar and Core Reactor Shot off cooldown - you can set them on autocast if you won't need to save them for CC.
    • Core Reactor Shot may be delayed is a breakbar if imminent.
  • If your mech dies, use Overclock Signet to immediately get it back.

While the mech provides effectively permanent DPS uptime, and it is almost fully ranged, other classes have been buffed so much in comparison that most players will perform better on other builds.

Rifle/Hammer Mech is the best Mid Tier spec in the game. One build can run all PVE content in the game. I run High Impact Drivers, throw mine, and the dragon trinket set up for my build. You can run thief rune for both hammer and rifle to save build tab space. For food, go cheap and get Avocado Smoothie and Tin Fruit Cake. If you can master smashing you forehead on 1-5 (save weapon 4 on hammer for blocks), throw mine off cooldown (normally), F1-F3 auto, and know where to stand; you will always be close if not top dps in all PVE content. The ease of this build can make you a better player because you can master it quickly then focus on learning mechanics. Blink (Shift Signet) will be your friend for fractal skips, greeding one shot mechanics, or resetting for a burst. Have fun kiting mechanics while all the melee spread out from aoes. As of Nov 28, 2023 Rifle 5 now has evade for 1/2 sec after activation. Now you can dodge one hit boss mechanics while doing damage. Awesome buff to Rifle. Rifle 3 also does more damage (more than double) at the cost of a 1/4 sec longer cast time which makes it the same as 2 and 4.

Very Good build for PvE. A good DPS, and the Mech is very Tanky. It's very good for people who begin HL
