===Weapon Variants===

Untamed has a lot of viable weapon options that perform very similarly. The highest damage options use '''Spear''' along with either '''Hammer''' or '''Sword/Axe'''. '''Sword/Axe''' has been chosen as the default as it has better burst and does better damage against non-defiant enemies (though this is rare in instanced PvE), but the damage difference is so small you can play whatever you prefer.
 +
 +
'''Mace/Mace''' can be paired with '''Hammer''' or '''Spear''' for more utility, but a moderate DPS loss.
 +
 +
The highest DPS option for players that don't own Janthir Wilds is '''Sword/Axe''' and '''Hammer'''.

Ranger's spear is unique because all of its 2-5 skills have their own stealth attacks. {{skill|Panther's Prowl}} provides stealth, and as an ammo skill you can use it frequently to access these stealth attacks. This skill also has a unique effect that allows you to use these stealth attacks even if you get revealed, though using any stealth attack will remove this effect.

Untamed is a highly survivable, powerful damage dealer and very useful melee offensive support with surprisingly high flexibility.

Featuring better control to its pets and access to the Unleashed Ambush type of skill, Untamed overall usefulness has another dimension beyond its pool of weapons and utility skills, and that dimension comes from pets. Similar to Soulbeast Soulbeast, Untamed can use and manage 3 different skills at will depending on the current pet, but unlike Soulbeast, these skills are tied to the pet, using its stats and animation locks (this means that you can use any pet skill without interrupting any of your own animations at all).

Untamed gets built-in and non-commital higher vitality than the rest of the Ranger specializations, extremely solid sustain and a wide array of defensive tools; with these qualities being inherent to itself there's no requirement to sacrifice part of its powerful offense, as such, it's usually considered one of the top-tier Open World specializations.

Regarding Untamed's playstyle, it is generally fast-paced, with many instant casts, a pet to manage and a rotation based on switching stances, improvisation on real encounters and a focus on the overall rotation loop. However, most of its skills can be queued and mistakes on the rotation are easy to manage and not considerably punishing, thus, can be considered a low skill floor/high skill ceiling specialization.

Untamed is somewhat limited by an important conditional, as it is having skills and traits that are reliant on enemies being defiant. While it is rare, easy to determine and doesn't suppose a massive loss, that is to consider.

Weapon Variants

Untamed has a lot of viable weapon options that perform very similarly. The highest damage options use Spear along with either Hammer or Sword/Axe. Sword/Axe has been chosen as the default as it has better burst and does better damage against non-defiant enemies (though this is rare in instanced PvE), but the damage difference is so small you can play whatever you prefer.

Mace/Mace can be paired with Hammer or Spear for more utility, but a moderate DPS loss.

The highest DPS option for players that don't own Janthir Wilds is Sword/Axe and Hammer.

Skill Variants

  • Perilous Gift makes you receive 100% less strike and condition damage and thus helping towards damage uptime. Can be replaced.
    • Healing Spring is an interesting option as it offers a cleanse and a water combo field.
    • Water Spirit offers group wide Vigor Vigor and healing.
  • "Sic 'Em!" can be replaced in case there's a need for other utilities.
    • Exploding Spores is a solid alternative with similar damage and good CC.
    • "Protect Me!" is a party wide stun-break.
  • Spirit of Nature is a five-target revive thanks to Nature's Vengeance, however it can be replaced for whatever fits most.

Specializations

  • Untamed Untamed's and Nature Magic Nature Magic's master traits are not important, and can be changed at will.
    • However, note that traiting Enhancing Impact might make tracking Quickness Quickness harder, as it will cause yourself to experience different and better uptime of Quickness Quickness than your actual output.
  • Nature's Vengeance can be changed for Invigorating Bond by switching Storm Spirit for Exploding Spores.
    • This will come at a small DPS loss in exchange for access to some group-wide Vigor Vigor and Protection Protection.
    • This change will also reduce your access to CC by switching from a 400 breakbar skill with 360 AoE and a Cooldown of 20 seconds to a 200 breakbar skill with a considerably smaller AoE and a Cooldown of 25 seconds.

  • Sigil of Superior Sigil of Concentration can help on encounters where a higher Quickness Quickness buffer may prove to be beneficial.
  • Sigil of Superior Sigil of Paralyzation increases the breakbar damage on Stun Stun and Daze Daze.
    • The skills that inflict that type of breakbar damage are Storm Spirit, Overbearing Smash, Deft Strike, Oaken Cudgel and Wild Strikes.

Usage

Quickness

Untamed provides Quickness Quickness in a radius of 480 units around the Ranger with the trait Let Loose.

  • Every Unleashed Ambush grants Quickness Quickness.
    • There's no need to hit a target to do this and thus it is possible to upkeep boons without any conditionals, yet note that Unleashed Ambush skills are your highest damage sources, so it's preferable to not to just mindlessly waste them.
  • After an Unleashed Ambush, there will be a few seconds where Weapon Swap Weapon Swap will allow the use of a second Unleashed Ambush.
  • This second Unleashed Ambush will also grant Quickness Quickness.

As to provide Quickness Quickness to our group, we shall do the following sequence.

  1. Unleashed Power comes off cooldown.
  2. Unleash Ranger
    • In order to get access to the Unleashed Ambush, we'll need to be on Unleash Pet first with Unleashed Power.
      • We will usually dip there for a bit then proceed to Unleash Ranger, allowing us to use our current weapon's Unleashed Ambush.
  3. Unleashed Ambush
  4. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap
  5. Unleashed Ambush

Rotation

Start with Unleash Pet. Whenever the pet is unleashed you also want to be using your F1-3 skills off cooldown.

  • Similar to Mechanist Mechanist, there's the option to set F1-3 skills on autocast (only the Unleash Ranger versions).
  • In general, it is preferred to set DPS skills on autocast while leaving situational/utility skills to be used at will.

Unleashing and your Unleash Pet F1-3 skills, are all instant cast so can be used during other skills. These skills are used off cooldown in the rotation, however, Enveloping Haze (F3) can be saved for its use as a mobile projectile block.

Because of Vow of the Untamed, we want to use as many powerful skills as posible on Unleash Ranger in order to make use of the 25% damage boost.

Relic of the Claw is a 7% strike damage boost that lasts for 8 seconds and activates (and resets) on disables.

  • The rotation upkeeps it on Spear Spear by using Predator's Ambush.
  • The rotation upkeeps it on Sword Sword and Axe Axe by using Path of Scars and Deft Strike.
  • The rotation upkeeps it on Hammer Hammer by using Storm Spirit.
    • If Storm Spirit isn't avaliable you can use Overbearing Smash or Thump (untamed) (note that these are the Unleash Pet versions) to do so.

If bringing Frost Trap, use it off cooldown without delaying weapon skills.

You can save Storm Spirit for oncoming defiance bars.

Do not delay Unleashed Ambush skills.

Spear rotations

Ranger's spear is unique because all of its 2-5 skills have their own stealth attacks. Panther's Prowl provides stealth, and as an ammo skill you can use it frequently to access these stealth attacks. This skill also has a unique effect that allows you to use these stealth attacks even if you get revealed, though using any stealth attack will remove this effect.

Outside of the opener, use "Sic 'Em!" off cooldown.

Hammer rotations

Outside of the opener, use "Sic 'Em!" off cooldown.

Storm Spirit use will change depending on your weapons as you want to use it to maintain the buff from Relic of the Claw based on where your CC happens. If you're not using this relic, you can just use it off cooldown.

  • With Spear, you should use it at towards the end of the Spear section.
  • With Maces or Sword/Axe, you should use it near the start of the Hammer section

Crowd Control

Untamed's access to CC is very solid. These are your options:

  • Fanged Iboga Fanged Iboga - F2 offers 150 breakbar damage and a Pull Pull.
  • Electric Wyvern Electric Wyvern - F2 and F3 offer 232 breakbar damage each.
  • Storm Spirit - 400 breakbar damage (200 per shake).
  • Exploding Spores - 200 breakbar damage.
  • Path of Scars - 150 breakbar damage and Pull Pull.
  • Deft Strike - 100 breakbar damage.
  • Overbearing Smash and Thump (untamed) offer CC if used while the pet is unleashed, but accessing this requires rearranging your rotation and a loss of DPS.
