We take Virtues here over Radiance primarily because of ease-of-use, but also because of the lower cooldown on Shield of Courage. This ability is incredibly powerful in open world for providing defensive coverage during burst windows, and as such Virtues wins for me personally over Radiance, despite the fact that Radiance is actually higher DPS by a small margin.

Despite my preference to use Virtues, it'd be a crime to not at least mention Radiance here. Radiance is higher DPS than Virtues by a decent amount and while I feel Radiance feels worse to play, I can't say that it's mechanically worse. Remember to take Healer's Resolution here, as without it and Litany of Wrath your Resolution uptime is terrible, which defeats the purpose of taking Radiance.

Honor
Honor can be taken for more defense at the cost of damage. This should typically replace Radiance.
+
In extremely rare cases I will drop Virtues for Honor. The presence of Writ of Persistence and Empowering Might means that Honor is at least *somewhat* competitive in terms of damage and it provides an incredible defensive boost thanks to the extra endurance you get from constant vigor and Purity of Body. It also has Pure of Voice which, when dealing with seriously bad condition application, can be combined with shouts to clear conditions like crazy... Though generally I would just recommend Purging Flames for that.

:Ascended gear and stat infusions are not required; you can use exotic gear with the same stats.

This set uses gear that is very similar to Build:Dragonhunter_-_Power_DPS, making it excellent for general PVE.

:Note: running full Berserker stats is totally fine.

For Food, I always prioritize Power-Based Ascended food over anything else, but I don't make it myself. If I find some out in the world, I'll take it, but it isn't worth making for solo farms generally. Outside of that I think its always best to prioritize Peppermint Omnomberry Bar as the boost it gives to gold per hour is quite high. Against champions and legendaries when solo I will run Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew if I feel it's necessary. For my utility, I always take Tin of Fruitcake except in Mad King's Lab, where I run Sharpening Skull.
* Berserker stats - Minor DPS (and HP) loss over Dragon stats, but much easier to obtain

* Marauder - trades -10% damage for +60% effective health; luxury set

* Knight - use some trinkets to provide extra Defense

 +
For other consumables, I carry Harpy Feathers, Ash Legion Spy Kits, Waystations, and Skale Venom.

Runes
+
For maximizing profit per hour, which only happens when I run with organized groups such as OTC Farm Zergs or structured lab farms, I run a full compliment of Boosters. The most important item here is the Candy Corn Gobbler, which I'll stack up to an hour at a time.
* Superior Rune of Strength, Superior Rune of Infiltration - budget dps

* Superior Rune of Durability, Superior Rune of Vampirism - defense

Sigils
* Superior Sigil of Accuracy - higher dps than Superior Sigil of Impact but less versatile; generally not used in other modes

* Superior Sigil of Energy - strong defense

* Superior Sigil of Air - budget DPS

Consumables
:Food

* Any ascended food is superior to any other food you could use. Steak for power, flatbread for conditions. Budget versions of these foods exist and are acceptable.

* Peppermint Omnomberry Bar - farming

* Dragon's Breath Bun, Plate of Truffle Steak - DPS

* Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew - defense

:Utility

* Sharpening Skull (and variants) - farming

* Tin of Fruitcake, Superior Sharpening Stone - DPS

Damage
+
I'm unsure if I'll provide a usage section here as this guide is meant for players already familiar with the class. If you want, you can look at the Heavy Light rotation used in raids to get a better grasp on how this is played. More information may be provided here in the future, including possible video guides.
General Advice
* Note that to play this build optimally you must turn off "Melee Attack Assist" in your Options menu. This is so you can stand inside of boss hitboxes.

* Your main damage skills are Symbol of Resolution, Whirling Wrath, Zealot's Defense, Ray of Judgment, Symbol of Blades, Procession of Blades, and Dragon's Maw. Swap between your weapons using these skills whenever possible, and fill with autoattacks. You should attempt to use Spear of Justice and Symbol of Resolution right before you use Whirling Wrath.

** Never interrupt your Greatsword or Sword autoattack chains as all the damage is loaded in the last hit.

* Resolution is a massive damage boost so you should try to have it up as much as possible. Your main Resolution sources are Symbol of Wrath, Healer's Resolution, and "Stand Your Ground!". If using the Virtues variant, Spear of Justice will provide an enormous boost to your Resolution uptime as well as significant damage.

** If using Virtues, Spear of Justice resets off every kill thanks to Renewed Justice. You should use it whenever possible.

** In long fights you should bring Hallowed Ground instead of "Stand Your Ground!" for increased Resolution uptime.

* If running Zeal, fight enemies in your symbols to get the damage buff from Symbolic Avenger.

* You should wait until Inner Fire procs before activating Spear of Justice

Generic Opener
While this opener may not apply in every situation, it is a good general-use rotation to start with. Open on Sword/Focus.

# Shield of Wrath

# Dragon's Maw / "Feel My Wrath!"

# Procession of Blades

# Spear of Justice

# Sword of Justice

# Symbol of Blades

# Weapon Swap

# Symbol of Resolution

# Whirling Wrath

# Sword of Justice

# Auto-attack until Symbol of Resolution, Whirling Wrath, and Spear of Justice are back up

# Sword of Justice

# Spear of Justice

# Symbol of Resolution

# Whirling Wrath

# Leap of Faith

# Binding Blade

# Weapon Swap

# Symbol of Blades

# Zealot's Defense

# Ray of Judgment

From there, your goal is to load your big damage skills into the window provided by Spear of Justice while auto-attacking and using Symbol of Blades off cooldown.

Defense
* You have a ton of Resolution uptime which helps you against conditions.

* Shield of Wrath is a powerful defensive skill. If you stand on top of an ally while this is active it can block attacks for them as well.

* Spear of Justice, Leap of Faith, and Symbol of Blades blind enemies.

* Wall of Reflection and Shield of the Avenger can be used against projectiles.

*Shield of Courage is a block that also gives aegis, protection, Resolution, stability, and a stun break.

* You can run Shelter for more active defense. You can also run Renewed Focus but this comes at the cost of one of your best burst damage skills.

* Remember to always dodge and sidestep attacks if possible. Don't get hit by anything you can move out of.

Sustain
* This build doesn't have much sustained healing unless you have Superior Rune of Vampirism, so avoiding damage is extremely important in long fights. You can run healing food, such as Scoop of Mintberry Swirl Ice Cream in these situations to relieve some pressure.

* Wings of Resolve is a powerful heal and condition cleanse. You can also use Whirling Wrath in the light field from your symbols to cleanse conditions.

Zerging
* When zerging, use your Puncture Shot, Deflecting Shot, and Symbol of Energy to tag mobs. Try to make sure your Superior Sigil of Fire procs on groups so you get credit for all of them.

* Against bosses or static groups of mobs (while the zerg isn't moving much), use your higher-damage weapon set such as Greatsword or Sword/Focus.

Crowd Control
* Pull

* Procession of Blades

* Dragon's Maw

* Hunter's Verdict

* Hammer of Wisdom

* Bane Signet (as a last resort)

Draft Builds

This is a draft build.

Overview

This is my personal build for power dragonhunter these days. I run this build alongside [Condition Core Guardian] for most of my open world farming.

Greatsword
Longbow
Utility

Weapons

My default weapons include Longbow and **Greatsword** but I frequently use Sword/Focus in place of either of those sets. In very rare circumstances, I will use Mace/Shield for the plethora of blocks it provides. Generally, this is only used against extremely strong, single enemies that attack fast, like the Balthazar hero point.

 • Greatsword Sword/Focus: This provides a considerable boost to defense but at a significant cost to DPS due to the lack of Resolution Resolution on Sword. If taking this, it's honestly advisable to use the **Virtues** spec instead.
 • Longbow Sword/Focus: This provides a little more burst damage, though it's somewhat miniscule. It also helps to provide more defensive coverage while executing the greatsword rotation via Shield of Wrath, which can be helpful.
 • Mace/Shield + Sword/Focus: This setup replaces both weapon sets above but provides incredible defensive coverage through Shield of Wrath, Protector's Strike, and Shield of Judgment. The damage loss on this set is considerable, so it is only used against very specific enemies. Generally when running this setup, I use a Sigil of Superior Sigil of Energy on my shield, though Sigil of Superior Sigil of Cleansing is also very good here.

Skills

The skills listed are generally the skills I default to, however there is a clear flex slot here where Bane Signet would be. I generally default this slot to Test of Faith as I prefer the more active playstyle it provides when compared to Bane Signet, however it can be used for a wide variety of options.

 • For extra defense, slot "Advance!", Fragments of Faith, or "Stand Your Ground!"
 • For CC, use Sanctuary or Hammer of Wisdom

I will also use Merciful Intervention and/or Judge's Intervention when using teleport skips. Keep in mind your Merciful Intervention can teleport to Sword of Justice.

Specializations

This is the "Default" setup I run for most open world farming. Taking Heavy Light here in place of Big Game Hunter is strongly advised as Heavy Light not only has 100% uptime, but also affects your cleave damage. Additionally, without Alacrity Alacrity, it can be frustrating to attempt to keep the Big Game Hunter rotation in sync.

Radiance

Despite my preference to use Virtues, it'd be a crime to not at least mention Radiance here. Radiance is higher DPS than Virtues by a decent amount and while I feel Radiance feels worse to play, I can't say that it's mechanically worse. Remember to take Healer's Resolution here, as without it and Litany of Wrath your Resolution Resolution uptime is terrible, which defeats the purpose of taking Radiance.

Honor

In extremely rare cases I will drop Virtues for Honor. The presence of Writ of Persistence and Empowering Might means that Honor is at least *somewhat* competitive in terms of damage and it provides an incredible defensive boost thanks to the extra endurance you get from constant vigor and Purity of Body. It also has Pure of Voice which, when dealing with seriously bad condition application, can be combined with shouts to clear conditions like crazy... Though generally I would just recommend Purging Flames for that.

 • Pure of Voice - extreme condition cleanse

Valor

I almost never take this, but in really, insanely, crazy, extreme cases Valor can be really good if used with the Mace/Shield + Sword/Focus setup above. I don't think I've run this more than once in the last few years, but.. well, here it is? This is an absolutely gargantuan DPS loss. It replaces Virtues.
