Berserker - Power Berserker

The community gave this build a rating, making it top-tier: Great

Focused on: Strike damage

Designed for: Open World and Open World General

Expansions required: Heart of Thorns builds

This build was last updated on May 26, 2024 and is up to date for the March 19, 2024 patch.

Power Berserker Berserker is a high damage and reliable build for open world that also provides boons. You'll spend most of the time in Berserk mode, dealing increased damage and killing enemies by spamming the Primal Burst skills Decapitate and Arc Divider which will also provide permanent Quickness Quickness to yourself and nearby allies. Berserker is also very relentless, having 2 stunbreak skills that also help with damage, and a heal skill that makes you nigh-immortal for a few seconds.

The main downside of this build, as with most warrior builds, is the lack of ranged damage.

Weapon Variants

You should always run Dual Axe Dual Axe, as this is by far your highest damage weapon set. Greatsword is also great for damage and mobility, but can be replaced by other weapons if you want.

Skill Variants

Heal Skills

Blood Reckoning is key to the build, letting you reset your Primal Burst and giving you adrenaline. You should almost never replace it.

  • Mending - defensive option, low cooldow, removes conditions, high healing.

Outrage is extremely useful, as it is not only a stunbreak but also extends the duration of your Berserk mode. Never replace it.
"For Great Justice!" provides you and nearby allies with boons. Very useful, but can be replaced if needed.
Signet of Fury is taken for the increased precision passive and should never be activated. Can be replaced if needed or if using Sigil of Superior Sigil of Accuracy.

  • "Shake It Off!" - condition removal, stunbreak.
  • Wild Blow - good damage, Berserk extension, and fury generation.
  • Signet of Stamina - more dodges and condition removal.

Elite Skills

Head Butt is absolutely key to the build and should almost never be replaced. It deals good damage, breaks stun, deals good crowd control, extends the duration of Berserk mode, and fully refills your Adrenaline.

  • Battle Standard - in vey rare situations, you can take this banner to revive allies.

  • Peak Performance - small damage boost at the cost of stability.
  • Great Fortitude - when playing in groups giving you Might Might.
  • Might Makes Right - high self healing at the cost of damage, also see food section below.
  • Blood Reaction - when playing in groups and someone else is already providing Quickness Quickness.

Ascended gear and stat infusions are not required; you can use exotic gear with the same stats.

This set uses gear similar to Build:Berserker_-_Power_DPS, making it good for general PVE.

  • Note that having 60% critical chance before fury and before Smash Brawler is absolutely mandatory. This is why you need either Signet of Fury or Sigil of Superior Sigil of Accuracy.
  • Rune of Superior Rune of the Dragonhunter and Rune of Superior Rune of the Scholar are interchangeable.
  • You can use Relic of Zakiros to trade a minor amount of damage for sustain, Relic of the Cavalier to start combat with boons, or Relic of Durability for a little extra defense.
  • For defense, equip the highest tier Jade Core you can afford. Use defensive food, traits, or skills if required. If necessary, use Knight Knight trinkets.

Budget consumables are acceptable for use in open world.

  • Prioritize Steak Ascended food.

Berserk is the profession mechanic of the berserker. After filling your Adrenaline bar, for example by using Head Butt, activate the skill to enter Berserk. In Berserk mode, you deal additional damage thanks to Fatal Frenzy and Bloody Roar, and have increased critical chance due to Smash Brawler. Your maximum Adrenaline is reduced, so it's easier to gain full Adrenaline to use the improved Primal Burst skills Decapitate and Arc Divider which are your sourcess of Quickness Quickness.

For these reasons, maintaining Berserk mode is key to playing berserker correctly. Blood Reckoning, Outrage and Head Butt extend the duration of your current Berserk mode. Using a Primal Burst also extends the Berserk duration due to Smash Brawler. Thanks to this, you can maintain permanent Berserk mode during fights.

This build is very simple to play. Start fights by instantly filling your Adrenaline bar with Head Butt, activate Berserk, and pummel your enemies. Note that having 60% critical chance before Fury Fury and before Smash Brawler is absolutely mandatory.

  1. Berserk
  2. Eviscerate
  3. Arc Divider + Blood Reckoning + Arc Divider
  4. Head Butt + Outrage
  5. Weapon skills

In short, spam your Primal Bursts. Use Blood Reckoning to cast Arc Divider twice back to back, then swap back to axe when you can since greatsword lacks sustained damage.

  • Your goal is to stay on axe axe and spam Eviscerate while using as little other skills in between as possible. Since Axe Mastery gives extra Adrenaline, including to Eviscerate, you only need to strike 3 times in between each Eviscerate. Be mindful that Cyclone Axe strikes twice, as does your second basic attack Double Chop. This means that, even if all your other skills are on cooldown, you are never going to cast your third auto attack Triple Chop because the first two auto attacks will have already filled your Adrenaline bar to use Eviscerate.
  • When all your axe axe skills are on cooldown, prepare your Adrenaline and swap to greatsword greatsword to cast Arc Divider + Blood Reckoning + Arc Divider, all skills except Whirlwind Attack unless needed, use Arc Divider a final time, and swap back to axe. When Blood Reckoning comes off cooldown, prepare your Adrenaline then go back to greatsword.
  • Use Head Butt + Outrage when your weapon skills are on cooldown to help maintain Berserk.
  • Use "For Great Justice!" before starting fights, and periodically throughout them.

Boon generation

By spamming your Primal Bursts as detailed above, you will provide yourself and nearby allies with permanent Quickness Quickness and Fury Fury due to Heat the Soul.

You also provide yourself lots of short duration Might Might thanks to Forceful Greatsword, and some more with "For Great Justice!".

  • Whirlwind Attack can be used to evade attacks and reposition.
  • Blood Reckoning heals you based on damage dealt, continue to deal damage

Crowd Control

  • Head Butt
  • Wild Blow

Great damage, great boon generation, some mobility, amazing heal skill, low cooldown stun breaks. Power berserker is a really good build for open world. The only disadvantage is the lack of ranged damage, but that's a small downside when everything in melee range of you dies so fast
