Overview

Celestial quickness catalyst is a hybrid boon dps build for catalyst for open world. Boasting extreme damage reduction, this build can face-tank pretty much anything while inflicting respectable damage and granting itself and nearby allies powerful boons, most notably, permanent Quickness Quickness.

As a downside, the playstyle requires you to be constantly swapping attunements pretty much off cooldown to spam their Spheres such as Deploy Jade Sphere (Fire), and you need to stay inside the Spheres to receive the boons.

Weapon Variants

We suggest using Hammer Hammer for its high amount of combo finishers (see: Guide:What are Combo Fields), which is relevant for Elemental Epitome and for its damage reduction through Rocky Loop and Icy Coil.

Skill Variants

Heal skill

We default to Signet of Restoration as it provides good passive healing and works great with a fast-paced playstyle. Since this build has extreme damage reduction and requires constant skill usage, you have little need for other healing skills.

Utility skills

We default to Armor of Earth for its stunbreak, barrier, and stability.
Signet of Fire for its burning damage when activated.
Signet of Earth for its passive damage reduction, but never use its active skill. This skill can be swapped when fighting less threatening enemies. Other alternatives you can consider are:

  • Cleansing Fire - condition cleanse and stun break.
  • Glyph of Elemental Power - very flexible skill that can do damage, or cleanse conditions, or daze enemies, or give barrier, depending on your current attunement, and breaks stun.

Elite skill

We default to Glyph of Elementals for its versatility. Cast it on Fire for damage, on Water for support, healing and Knockback Knockback, on Air for a Stun Stun, or on Earth for defense and tanking.

Specializations

Since this build is designed for resilience and tankiness, there are several defensive traits in use. If you are going to fight less threatening enemies, you can consider swapping some of those traits for more damage.

  • Serrated Stones - more damage, but you lose permanent Protection Protection.
  • Written in Stone - more damage by retaining the passive precision of Signet of Fire, but less condition removal.
  • Vicious Empowerment - more damage, but you lose damage reduction.

Relic

If you are gearing this character from zero, start with exotic quality gear. See also: Guide:How to Gear a Character.

  • The relic slot is very flexible. Here are some alternatives. If using the trait Serrated Stones, be sure to change your relic as it is useless:
    • You can consider Relic of Zakiros or Relic of the Cruel Overseer or Relic of the Mist Stranger for sustain.
    • You can consider Relic of Fireworks for better burst.

Usage

Jade Sphere

The Jade Sphere is the profession mechanic of the catalyst. Hitting enemies generates energy, and you spend this energy to summon a sphere that deals minor damage and provides yourself and nearby allies with boons, most notably permanent Quickness Quickness thanks to Spectacular Sphere and Sphere Specialist. Each attunement has its own sphere, and their cooldowns are not shared. Thanks to the trait Sphere Specialist, you can generate Energy even while a sphere is deployed.

You also gain improved attributes from the Elemental Empowerment effect from traits like Elemental Empowerment.

Damage

Rotate through all four attunements while using their Jade Sphere and their hammer 3 skill. These hammer skills provide important bonuses such as improved critical strike from Crescent Wind or damage reduction through Rocky Loop.

Always start combat by using your Jade Sphere and hammer 3 skill. Then, cast the remaining weapon skills, swap to the next attunement and repeat. You must be constantly switching attunements to maintain your boons from Jade Sphere. After rotation through all four attunements, restart this rotation, cast Grand Finale and hammer 3 again.

You also gain stacks of Elemental Empowerment, which increase all your attributes, impacting damage, survivability, boon duration, etc. Elemental Empowerment provides 3 stacks of Elemental Empowerment. To get more, you need to gain auras due to Elemental Epitome. You gain auras through Sunspot, Elemental Epitome and combo fields+finishers (see: Guide:What are Combo Fields).

Boons

You provide quickness with the traits Spectacular Sphere + Sphere Specialist. You want to swap attunements off cooldown and use their Sphere immediately. This also provides other boons, namely permanent Fury Fury and some Might Might. Sphere Specialist lets you generate energy even while a sphere is deployed, so you won't have energy problems.

You also have permanent Protection Protection due to Elemental Shielding.

Defense

  • You have massive amounts of damage reduction due to:
    • Permanent Protection Protection due to Elemental Shielding.
    • Damage reduction from Rocky Loop and Icy Coil.
    • Damage reduction from Hardened Auras.
    • Damage reduction from Geomancer's Training.
    • Damage reduction from Stone Flesh (only when attuned to Earth).
    • Damage reduction from Signet of Earth.
  • Aegis Aegis via Deploy Jade Sphere (Earth).
  • Elemental Empowerment passively increases toughness and vitality.
  • Immutable Stone blocks one attack.
  • Cleansing Typhoon removes conditions.
  • Diamond Skin removes conditions.
