Unfortunately, regardless of the build used, Power Willbender's damage is unimpressive, making it a rather niche pick.

* {{Skill|Whirling Light}} could replace {{Skill|Purging Flames}}:

{{skill|Flash Combo}} is not only a decent damage skill, but it allows for frequent triggers of {{relic|Relic of Peitha}} on the '''Sword''' build.
** {{Skill|Purging Flames}} deals slightly more damage, provides a fire field and cleanses conditions, but the boss may move out of it.

* You could run {{Skill|"Advance!"}} instead of {{skill|Sword of Justice}} (or {{skill|Sword of Justice}} if using) for {{tooltip|Aegis}} uptime.
** {{Skill|Whirling Light}} has 4 whirl finishers, which will cause it to do more damage than {{Skill|Purging Flames}} if you combo with an ethereal or fire field. It can also be used while moving.
+
** Be aware that this result in fewer triggers of {{trait|Restorative Virtues}}, which slows down your rotation and may end up being less damage overall.

===Spear Rotation===

Spear's unique mechanic is the ''Illuminated'' effect. When under the ''Illuminated'' effect, skills 2-4 have enhanced effects:
 +
* {{skill|Helio Rush}} gains increased healing and applies {{tooltip|Resolution}} to allies you pass through, as well as dealing more damage and applying {{tooltip|Weakness}} to enemies.
 +
* {{skill|Gleaming Disc}} deals more damage, applies {{tooltip|Blindness}} to enemies, and grants {{tooltip|Might}} and {{tooltip|Fury}} to allies.
 +
* {{skill|Solar Storm}} hits two additional times and heals allies that it removes conditions from.
 +

 +
In addition, each of these skills itself applies the ''Illuminated'' effect for five seconds. Finally, while {{skill|Symbol of Luminance}} gains no extra benefit from ''Illuminated'', it causes all skills to be ''Illuminated'' for as long as the symbol is active, regardless of where it is in relation to you.
 +

 +
Given that all your main skills on spear apply ''Illuminated'', practically speaking there are only two things you need to consider:
 +
# The first skill (non-auto) you use when swapping to spear will not gain the ''Illuminated'' effect. Outside of the opener, this is resolved by using {{skill|Symbol of Luminance}}.
 +
# You want to use at least one of your 2-4 skills every five seconds when {{skill|Symbol of Luminance}} is not active. The easiest way to maintain it is via {{skill|Helio Rush}} as it an ammunition skill with low cooldown.
 +

 +
The most important skill to ''Illuminate'' is {{skill|Solar Storm}}.

+
It helps a huge amount to precast a charge of {{skill|Flowing Resolve}} to gain extra triggers of {{trait|Restorative Virtues}}. If you do not do this you may find yourself needing to perform an extra autoattack or two while waiting for cooldowns.

This build was last updated on November 18, 2024 and is up to date for the October 8, 2024 patch.

Overview

A Power DPS build for Willbender.

When running Virtues, Willbender has the advantage that it can more easily maintain Aegis Aegis than Dragonhunter and core Guardian thanks to Crashing Courage, which can be used to ensure uptime during burst phases where it might otherwise be lost.

Weapon Variants

  • Sword/Focus is the best option for players that don't own Janthir Wilds
    • Offhand Sword deals slightly less damage than Focus, but could be useful for the extra mobility from Advancing Strike.
    • Players that own Secrets of the Obscure can run Longbow instead of Sword/Focus, this is a small DPS loss but has better ranged potential.

Skill Variants

Flash Combo is not only a decent damage skill, but it allows for frequent triggers of Relic of Peitha on the Sword build.

  • You could run "Advance!" instead of Sword of Justice (or Sword of Justice if using) for Aegis Aegis uptime.
    • Be aware that this result in fewer triggers of Restorative Virtues, which slows down your rotation and may end up being less damage overall.
  • Bring Heaven's Palm if you need CC.

Specializations

Specialization Variants

Virtues offers a significant damage boost, but is dependent on maintaining a high uptime of Aegis Aegis or remaining above 90% health, which requires skill and may not be practical on many encounters. In such an instance you can run Radiance, though in this case Dragonhunter is perhaps a more natural fit.

  • Using berserker stats berserker stats gear instead of dragon stats dragon stats is a minor DPS loss, and may work out better if you don't trust your Fury Fury or Resolution Resolution uptime.
  • If using Sword, the extra teleports make Relic of Peitha the stronger option.

Utility

Usage

Spear Rotation

Spear's unique mechanic is the Illuminated effect. When under the Illuminated effect, skills 2-4 have enhanced effects:

  • Helio Rush gains increased healing and applies Resolution Resolution to allies you pass through, as well as dealing more damage and applying Weakness Weakness to enemies.
  • Gleaming Disc deals more damage, applies Blindness Blindness to enemies, and grants Might Might and Fury Fury to allies.
  • Solar Storm hits two additional times and heals allies that it removes conditions from.

In addition, each of these skills itself applies the Illuminated effect for five seconds. Finally, while Symbol of Luminance gains no extra benefit from Illuminated, it causes all skills to be Illuminated for as long as the symbol is active, regardless of where it is in relation to you.

Given that all your main skills on spear apply Illuminated, practically speaking there are only two things you need to consider:

  1. The first skill (non-auto) you use when swapping to spear will not gain the Illuminated effect. Outside of the opener, this is resolved by using Symbol of Luminance.
  2. You want to use at least one of your 2-4 skills every five seconds when Symbol of Luminance is not active. The easiest way to maintain it is via Helio Rush as it an ammunition skill with low cooldown.

The most important skill to Illuminate is Solar Storm.

Opener

It helps a huge amount to precast a charge of Flowing Resolve to gain extra triggers of Restorative Virtues. If you do not do this you may find yourself needing to perform an extra autoattack or two while waiting for cooldowns.

  1. Sword of Justice
  2. Rushing Justice
  3. Symbol of Luminance
  4. Helio Rush
  5. Gleaming Disc
  6. Solar Storm
  7. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap
  8. Symbol of Resolution
  9. Whirling Wrath
  10. Leap of Faith
  11. Crashing Courage
  12. Flash Combo
  13. Binding Blade
  14. Symbol of Resolution
  15. Sword of Justice
  16. Whirling Wrath
  17. Rushing Justice
  18. Sword of Justice
  19. Strike Vengeful Strike Wrathful Strike
  20. Symbol of Resolution
  21. Leap of Faith
  22. Whirling Wrath
  23. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap

Spear Loop

  1. Helio Rush - this is a targeted movement skill. If you hover your cursor over your UI, you will charge in place and minimise the animation time
  2. Solar Storm - we want to use this twice each loop, but its long cooldown means you always want to use it as your second skill to avoid delaying your weapon swap
  3. Virtue
  4. Gleaming Disc
  5. Symbol of Luminance
  6. Sword of Justice
  7. Helio Rush
  8. Daybreaking Slash until Helio Rush comes off cooldown
  9. Helio Rush
  10. Virtue
  11. Daybreaking Slash until Solar Storm is nearly off cooldown
  12. Gleaming Disc
  13. Helio Rush
  14. Solar Storm
  15. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap

Greatsword Loop

The Greatsword section is quite flexible, so the following is the general structure. If the next listed cooldown is not available use either a single auto or a full auto chain, depending on which you can fit in.

  1. Symbol of Resolution
  2. Whirling Wrath
  3. Leap of Faith
  4. Sword of Justice
  5. Binding Blade
  6. Symbol of Resolution
  7. Whirling Wrath
  8. Virtue
  9. Leap of Faith
  10. Strike Vengeful Strike Wrathful Strike
  11. Symbol of Resolution
  12. Whirling Wrath
  13. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap

  • Use Rushing Justice and Flash Combo off cooldown. They take priority over all Greatsword skills except Symbol of Resolution, but the first four skills of the Spear section should not be delayed.
  • Where it lists Virtue in the rotation above, use whichever virtue is available, with the priority
    1. Rushing Justice
    2. Flowing Resolve
    3. Crashing Courage

General Tips

  1. Use extra charges of Sword of Justice to fill in gaps where you don't have time for a full auto chain - make sure not to let it reach three stacks!
  2. Use Rushing Justice off cooldown, and fill in gaps in Virtue uptime with the other two.

The Radiance/Zeal variant is a noob trap and it's really inferior to the Virtues/Zeal variant. It really shouldn't be there at all.

The virtues build is the star of the show here, with the ability to do amazing burst damage if it can maintain the bonuses from Unscathed Contender. Otherwise it will typically fall behind dragonhunter.

I run virtues over zeal and i found the build kinda stupid, you really have tons of survability while keeping decent dps because you have very few down time: you can dps constantly thanks to the fact that you never have to dodge or move. I haven't tested numbers and i know it's behind carries like weaver but it allows you to dps in most situations where your team is forced to stop dps.
