Overview

A condition DPS Soulbeast build for raids and fractals. The build is very straightforward to play and presses its skills off cooldown to deal high Bleeding Bleeding and Poison Poison damage. It is rather bursty for a condition build, so can work well even on bosses with short phases.

For an even simpler version without reliance on melee, see Soulbeast - Condi Shortbow DPS.

  • If you have enough time to precast, you can use Bristleback Bristleback and precast Sharpen Spines Sharpen Spines before the fight, then switch back to Lynx Lynx for a small DPS increase.

Weapon Variants

Condi soulbeast has a lot of viable weapon options, but you want to keep the shortbow regardless.

If you find Rune of Superior Rune of Thorns to be prohibitively difficult to acquire, you can instead use the following:

  • Rune of Superior Rune of the Krait
  • Sigil of Superior Sigil of Bursting and Sigil of Superior Sigil of Earth

On bosses that attack frequently, Iboga may be higher damage than Lynx. In this case use:

  • Rune of Superior Rune of the Afflicted
  • Sigil of Superior Sigil of Agony and Sigil of Superior Sigil of Earth
  • (or alternatives)

Usage

Rotation

If you can, precast Sharpening Stone, and dodge twice and use Quick Shot to stack up some Light on your Feet.

Opener

  1. One Wolf Pack
  2. Viper's Nest
  3. Vulture Stance and Sharpening Stone during the cast of Viper's Nest
  4. Poison Volley
  5. Crippling Shot
  6. Concussion Shot
  7. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap

Dagger/Dagger section

The Dagger section should be opened with Double Arc in order to get three uses without delaying your rotation.

  1. Double Arc
  2. Stalker's Strike
  3. Crippling Talon
  4. Autoattack and use Crippling Talon, Double Arc and Stalker's Strike as they come off cooldown
  5. Double Arc - the third time you use this, weapon swap should be available
  6. Crippling Talon if available - this will only be the case if you started the Dagger section at two charges
  7. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap

Shortbow section

You want to open and close each Shortbow section with Poison Volley

  1. Poison Volley
  2. Crippling Shot
  3. Autoattack and use Poison Volley and Crippling Shot when they come off cooldown
  4. Concussion Shot just before the third use of Poison Volley
  5. Poison Volley
  6. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap
  7. Return to start of Dagger section

  • Try to finish your auto chains on Dagger, but if another skill comes off cooldown before you use the second skill in the chain, you should interrupt it
  • Sharpening Stone and Vulture Stance off cooldown - both are instant cast
  • Fill in gaps between weapon skills with Viper's Nest, Primal Cry and Maul (soulbeast feline)
  • If Viper's Nest will come off cooldown while on Dagger, you can delay Crippling Talon so that you can combo it with the poison field

Video example

Axe rotation

If using mainhand Axe, the rotation is structurally very similar to Dagger:

  1. Open with Splitblade Winter's Bite
  2. Autoattack and use all weapon skills as they come off cooldown
  3. Weapon Swap Weapon Swap after the third Splitblade
  • Winter's Bite is a priority skill, and will interrupt the cast of other skills if you use it too soon

Torch rotation

If using offhand torch, use Throw Torch in place of Stalker's Strike. Use Bonfire as you reach the end of the Dagger, as Splitblade and the autoattacks on Shortbow have a chance to combo with it.

General Tips

  • Dodging or using Quick Shot gives you Light on your Feet for four seconds. It isn't worth dodging solely for the buff, but if you have to dodge anyway then it mitigates the DPS loss.
    • Quick Shot is slightly more efficient than dodging, if you can get used to it.

A very strong condition DPS build for Ranger that rivals the Hybrid build. Can also be used as LI should you need a perma range condi build.

The recent change to vulture stance makes this quite a bursty condi build, though less so that the hybrid build. Quite easy to play and a very solid option.

A simple, solid condition DPS, good on any boss that favors condition damage.

I pretty much always use the bristleback now since i can use both of its unique skills at range rather than only in melee which the lynx abilities are limited by. As Takazi commented on the damage difference is so negligible that you cant even tell really which does more so might as well use the one with abilities that can be used at greater range.

smashing around 38k to 42k each run on the 10 mil golem with all food and buffs, but i seem to consistently get 1k higher each time i use bristleback beast mode over lynx beast mode (for the entire rotation, no precasts) just wondering if anyone else has tested this? either way this is a brilliant build, consistent damage, fun/easy rotation and viable in many different situations. love it

Very strong DPS output on a simple rotation and is usable across almost all encounter which makes it a good choice for a beginner.
