This build has been merged into Build:Chronomancer - Power DPS

Overview

A power DPS Chronomancer build for fractals. This build deals very high burst and sustained damage against single targets. In addition it has very good CC, utility, and personal defense, and is capable of generating its own Might Might, Fury Fury, Quickness Quickness, and Alacrity Alacrity.

This build benefits from Slow Slow on your target, Time Warp, Time Sink and general crowd control through Delayed Reactions contribute to a decent slow uptime.

Weapon variants

  • Pistol - in extremely short fights where Phantasmal Warden won't have enough time to finisht its attack twice (Chronophantasm), or when there are several adds (Warden attacks random targets in range), Phantasmal Duelist will do more damage

Variants

  • Phantasmal Defender instead of Phantasmal Disenchanter if your target has more boons than can be removed.
  • Gravity Well provides decent crowd control at the expense of slow uptime.
  • Signet of Humility deals slightly more defiance bar damage than Gravity Well and in a shorter time, but it has a lenghty cooldown and decreases slow uptime.

Specializations

Variants

  • Time Catches Up - extremely situational trait that can theoretically increase your dps by 400 if the boss already has 100% slow uptime.

Illusions Variant

  • If your party is not providing you enough Might Might and Quickness Quickness, Illusions can replace Duelling and provide more damage.

  • Only a single mainhand sword is required.

Usage

The goal of the rotation is to use Signet of the Ether and Continuum Split to cast your phantasm 3 times in short succession. This is achieved by entering Continuum Split during the aftercast of Phantasmal Swordsman, which means that you enter and exit Continuum Split with Swordsman, Disenchanter, and Signet of the Ether, off cooldown.

  5. Phantasmal Disenchanter
  6. Time Warp

Video Example

Variants

  • Greatsword - Lower DPS, but stronger in encounters with lots of adds as Phantasmal Warden targets nearby enemies at random.

Notes

  • Blurred Frenzy and Signet of the Ether will interrupt your current skill cast. That is why the Continuum Split burst rotation ends with Blurred Frenzy, to ensure you finish the casting time (by cancelling its aftercast) of your last phantasm inside the split, so that it is off cooldown after the split.
  • Once Continuum Split is available, jump to step 4 of the opening burst next time you swap to Sword/Sword.
  • Fill gaps in between skills listed in the rotation with auto-attack chains.
  • Make sure not to interrupt your autoattack chain as the damage from it is heavily loaded into the final strike, Mind Spike.
  • Use Split Second whenever you have 3 clones up. If you have 3 clones up and Split Second is on cooldown and you know that you will have another 3 clones up by the time Split Second becomes available, you can cast Rewinder.
  • Save clones to shatter with Time Sink if you will need to CC in the immediate future.
  • You can use Temporal CurtainInto the Void to pull adds onto the boss if needed.
  • In the initial burst inside Continuum Split, slightly delay Mantra of Pain to first get some stacks of Fencer's Finesse, but ensure you can still cast it twice inside the Split.
  • It might be worth to cast Illusionary RiposteCounter Blade to daze the enemy and trigger Delayed Reactions to inflict 3 seconds of slow if you are going to be doing significant damage in those 3 seconds (such as having phantasms attacking and using Blurred Frenzy and Mind Spike).

It's a great build, Mesmer has a very high damage if you hit the rotation, it has a vast set of Boons and also a very targeted one which is Alacrity for allies, it's great to have on the team.

The best damage build for mesmer in fractals. However, since much of its damage comes from phantasms, and phantasms take time to attack, resummon (Chronophantasma), and attack, the build lacks burst damage. This means that if the fight is very short, or the boss becomes invulnerable/disappears at any point during the fight, the damage from the phantasms you currently have summoned is completely nullified. In summary, the shorter the fight, or phase of the fight, the worst the mesmer is going to perform in terms of damage. And fractal fights tend to be very short, especially as players progress through fractal tiers and players improve their dps. This is a key weakness of mesmer in general, and the reason mesmers are not often played in the highest tier 4 fractals.
