*While the offhand weapons could be swapped, Pistol offers a quick way for Sword to get into combat at 1200 range. This matters as you can't get clones from dodging while out of combat. While {{Skill|Illusionary Leap}} + {{Skill|Swap}} could be used as your opener, this leaves you with no way to instantly get to three clones again, since {{Skill|Phantasmal Mage}} takes a long time to turn into a clone.
+
*With this build you want to keep your clones alive to take advantage of {{Trait|Infinite Horizon}}. Your offensive weapon set is Dagger/Pistol, if possible you want to use {{Skill|Illusionary Ambush}} while in this weapon set and with three clones active. You also want to prefere dodging over {{Skill|Illusionary Ambush}} whenever possible, since it is a pseudo stunbreak. When using Sword/Torch you want to take a more defensive stance, using {{Skill|Mirage Thrust}} as a mobility tool. It is up to you to judge if your opponent is weak enough to finish him off or if you should play defensively until you switch back to dagger.

*The playstyle of this build changes significantly depending on the weapon set you are in:

**When using Sword/Pistol most of your damage comes from rappidly generating and then shattering clones. Since both dodging and {{Skill|Mirage Thrust}} each generate a clone, you essentially get two clones per dodge. To maximize shatter damage you want to follow either {{Skill|Phantasmal Duelist}} or {{Skill|Illusionary Leap}} with a dodge + {{Skill|Mirage Thrust}} to get a total of three clones.

* The ability of Mirage to be offensive while dodging is already an excellent survivability tool as such. You most likely will be able to put the enemy on the defensive simply by going full speed ahead without having to worry about your own health. Just be sure not to waste ambush attacks into blocks or dodges of an opponent that starts the fight in a defensive stance. This mistake will make you a sitting duck, since you wasted not just your offensive but also your defensive potential.

Equipment Variants

Relics

The following Relics are good alternatives, depending on the situation and prefered playstyle:

  • Relic of the Mirage - additional Torment Torment for more Damage.
  • Relic of Akeem - higher burst than Relic of the Mirage but less consistent condition application.
  • Relic of the Nightmare - adds a CC to Jaunt.

Usage

Elite specialization basics

  • Dodge rolling is replaced by Mirage Cloak, which is more or less the same thing but allows you to cast skills and grants access to ambush attacks over its duration: Phantom Razor for Dagger and Mirage Thrust for Sword. Ambush skills replace the autoattack of the weapons for 1.5 seconds.
  • You can dodge while casting skills and performing actions such as rezing or stomping, but NOT while CC'd.

General

  • With this build you want to keep your clones alive to take advantage of Infinite Horizon. Your offensive weapon set is Dagger/Pistol, if possible you want to use Illusionary Ambush while in this weapon set and with three clones active. You also want to prefere dodging over Illusionary Ambush whenever possible, since it is a pseudo stunbreak. When using Sword/Torch you want to take a more defensive stance, using Mirage Thrust as a mobility tool. It is up to you to judge if your opponent is weak enough to finish him off or if you should play defensively until you switch back to dagger.

Mobility

  • Between Mirage Thrust, Jaunt and Blink this build is highly mobile and should be able to keep up with any opponent. Illusionary Ambush and Swap can be used as additional mobility tools if necessary.

Surviving

  • The ability of Mirage to be offensive while dodging is already an excellent survivability tool as such. You most likely will be able to put your opponent on the defensive simply by going full speed ahead, without having to worry about your own health. Just be sure not to waste your dodges. Ideally you want to actually dodge something, rather than using it to just get your ambush skills.
  • Remember that getting away to fight another day is better than to die trying. You have the mobility to disengage from bad fights, use it.
  • Keep Arcane Thievery until you really need it. While this skill could be used offensively to rip boons, against a condition based opponent you want to hold it back until you actually need the cleanse.

Damage

  • Cry of Frustration is your primary damage shatter skill, followed by Mind Wrack.
  • While the burst combos below include shatters for maximum damage, often times you want to keep your clones alive if you can't finish your opponent. This alows for more damage in the long run because of Infinite Horizon.
