This build is up to date for the March 14, 2025 patch.
Overview
Staff and Greatsword build for small-scale PvP revolves around delivering rapid bursts of damage, making it highly effective in both duels and single-target assassinations during PvP encounters. While the Staff plays a supporting role, the primary damage potential lies in the Greatsword. This build focuses on close-quarters combat rather than fighting from range and kiting, as commonly seen in builds utilizing the Staff. Here, you'll leverage the Greatsword's high burst damage capabilities to initiate combat while using the staff to bind enemies and boost your hit rate through the use of
High Focus.

SECONDARY

Wisdom
With the unique stats and attributes system in Throne and Liberty, it can be difficult to determine exactly where to invest your attribute points at each stage of the game. This is because gear pieces provide attributes just like leveling up does, meaning everyone will have a different number of attribute points depending on what gear they are wearing at the time.
Given this variation, it's best to reset your attributes regularly to adjust to the new gear you acquire. Aim to reach the achievement effects, which provide extra benefits at milestones like 30, 50, and 70 points.
In this build, focus on investing points into Strength and Dexterity, aiming to improve both to maximize your damage potential and increase heavy attack chance and skill damage thanks to
Vital Force and
Mana Amp. The health increase from high strength stat is very important for PVP as it offers great survivability. However, as you progress and your gear improves over time, you will want to aim for 70 points into strength to make use of the extra HP and heavy attack chance. Dexterity should be your secondary focus to improve your critical hit while the rest of your points should go into Perception for extra hit rate.
Skills
With the build making heavy use of Greatsword skills, you should prioritize them when upgrading. Skills like
Death Blow and
Gaia Crash,
Devastating Smash. The passives shouldn't be forgotten either as they provide an incredible boost to your damage, especially the combo of
Robust Constitution and
Vital Force as they compliment eachother, adding extra damage and health.
Cold Warrior offers increased critical hit along with Heavy Attack Chance which is vital to the build.
While your staff abilities aren't as crucial to upgrade, both
Judgment Lightning and
Ice Spear deal good damage. Meanwhile,
Icebound Tomb is a fantastic kiting tool and is part of your combo.
High Focus is also a very important skill as it provides incredible hit rate and evasion rate, allowing you to essentially bypass most enemies that build evasion rate.

These are the first items you should strive for through the leveling period as they are very easy to get and upgrade or trait as needed. However, you shouldn't try to trait these items too much as you won't be spending too much time playing with this setup before you start changing pieces into the Midgame. The green accessories however are very easy to trait as you can craft many of them quickly in order to get the correct traits so you should consider traiting them until you change into purples. The same goes for the blue ring as you keep it for a long time.

This is the gear you should transition to once you're leveled to 50 and start grinding gear. It is comprised of gear you can get either from dungeons or by completing Litographs, they are relatively easy to trait up and you will spend most of the time wearing this set before advancing into the late game so traiting these items is very important and should be your main focus.

While runes can be applied to different types of gear, you should make sure that you invest into the gear pieces that you plan on using for a long time. However, if the build you are using uses the same items between Mid Game and End Game, you can invest into adding runes to them as early as you get the items.
This is the current endgame gear you should aim for, and while it isn't easy to acquire, it offers great power without the need of acquiring archboss gear pieces. However, items like
Tevent's Fangs of Fury or other archboss weapons are superior but difficult to acquire for the majority of players. If you do manage to get the archboss weapons for your build, feel free to use them over the weapons shown here.
T2 gear is work in progress and will be added soon.

Rotations
- This rotation serves as your primary kill sequence. You can start this buffed with

High Focus but its not a requirement.
- The rotation is straightforward: begin with

Precision Dash used two times to bind your target. If your bind succeeds, use
Ascending Slash to trip (Prone) your target before using
Icebound Tomb to lock them in place and increase the damage done by your
Gaia Crash. Continue with
Stunning Blow and
Death Blow before finishing them off with
Judgment Lightning. Remember that you can use
Judgment Lightning twice if the first one is a heavy attack.
Secondary Burst CC Rotation ↴
- This is a secondary shorter rotation if your other abilities are on cooldown or you've used them to catch enemies. Start with

Precision Dash in the direction of the target and then cast it again to teleport to them before using
Ascending Slash to force Prone on your enemy after they got bound.
- Continue with

Guillotine Blade for high damage before stunning again with
Devastating Smash. Finish off the target using
Death Blow and
Judgment Lightning.

Icebound Tomb: This is the perfect skill for kiting and catching targets, with a low cooldown and a great bind, it can be used both offensively and defensively while it pairs perfectly with
Gaia Crash, making it easier to land it.

High Locus: Use this ability to consistently to increase your hit rate and evasion rate. It allows you to bypass a lot of enemy defenses as most Dagger players build high evasion.

Ice Spear: This is a filler skill you should use to deal extra damage from range or to finish off targets.

DaVinci's Courage: Use this skill as often as possible to boost your max health and improve your overall damage thanks to your passives.
Useful Information
- Select Lady Knight Kamarshea as your guardian; it provides essential protection with its shield, capable of absorbing damage equal to 50% of your mana. This not only aids in mitigating damage but also increases your cooldown speed in order to let you heal more often.
